Chapter six

Eating my food, I try to think of a way to start a conversation. The dining room is to quite for my liking. Emmet and his mom don't seem to get along very well so they aren't talking. It would be weird to only talk to Emmet. So, that's why the only thing you can hear in the dining room is the clink of silverware.

Drinking some of the weirdly delicious drink that they gave me, I look up at Emmet. I've noticed he doesn't eat a lot but that's just because he can't.

Getting tired of the quietness, I stand up and push my chair back, causing a loud, echoing, noise. "Okay, enough of this. Y'all two, talk. Now. I don't care if you're a prince and queen and I am just a peasant in your eyes that is disrespecting you. Emmet, you have a lot to tell her, so get to it. Artanis, let's go." He looks at the queen before following me as I walk out. Spinning on my heel, I turn back around and run and grab the soup. "It was really good. Now talk!" Leaving them flabbergasted, I shut the giant ebony wood doors behind me and wonder where Artanis went. Shrugging, I walk back towards the balcony overlooking the garden.

Once I get there, I take a drink of the soup and look out towards the gardens. Looking to the weird blue glowing forest that is beyond, I wonder what it would be like to live down here. I know nothing about it but, I do know that it is beautiful.

"Hey. You like the view too?" Startled, I look behind me to see the Artanis/Jayden guy behind me. Thinking of giving him a retort, I decide not to when I see his overly gloomy face. "Yeah, I guess so." He walks towards the balcony and leans against the railing, his hands hanging over the side.

Finally getting over guessing to myself why he is gloomy I ask him. "So? What's up? You look all gloomy." He shrugs and looks down at the maze. "Nothing. Just thinking about the person I was destined to marry." Looking down at my soup I bite my lip. "What were they like?" He laughs. "It would be so hard to explain. I guess the simple way of saying it is that they are so very adventurous. They don't care about danger or the risk it can come with. They are affectionate too. It was one of my favorite parts of them. We loved each other so much." Getting up and putting my soup down, I go and hug him. "I don't really care that we don't know each other. You need a hug. What happened to them?" He awkwardly pats my arms and sighs. "They went to war. They wanted to help. They didn't pay attention to the risk of it. One day I got a letter saying he was missing. No one knows where he went." Breaking away from him, I stand next to him. "I am sure he is amazing."

"He really was."

Hazel takes her bowl of soup and leaves, shutting the door behind her, leaving me and my mom to awkwardly stare at each other.

Cleaning my throat I stand up and say quietly, "I should go. Sorry to disappoint you with what I've become." Pushing the chair back, I start to stand up. My mom puts her hand on mine and taps it, telling me to sit back down. "Honey. I am not disappointed in you. Hazel was right we have a lot to talk about. It's been 11 years since I've seen you! What has been going on?" Sitting down, I look at my hands. "W-Well. I developed social anxiety and a delusion disorder... That's all really.." My mom nods and looks down at her soup. "Your grandfather had a delusion disorder. But social anxiety? I have no idea where that comes from! Everyone in our family is very social! Honestly Emmet! Just why-"

"Can I go now?" Setting my spoon down I look at her. "Emmet... I am sorry. I didn't mean it like that." Shaking my head, I stand up. "I will be in my chambers if you need me." Walking away, I open the doors to the dining room and angrily walk to my room.

Taking a deep breath, I knock on the door in front of me. It slams open and a face is shoved by mine. Trying my best to not gag, I wave. "Hi. A long time since I've seen y'all?" The creatures in front of me grunt and move away. "What'd you want Charlotte?" Walking in, I look at the other overly fat Ork. "I need something that can take power from inside someone. I also need something to trap someone in one place." The Ork's look at each other and laugh. "To take the power from someone Charlotte, that isn't something a potion can do. We can get you something to keep someone in one place... For a hefty price." Taking out the coin pick I show it to them. "Is that enough for the potion and the information on how to take someone's power?" They look at each other then back at me and nod, grabbing the coin pouch. "That'll be enough. Now shoo. We have work to do. The potion will be made soon." Glaring at them, I walk out and slam the door behind me mumbling, "Those awful trolls. I have to wait. Their payment should've waited. How do I know they won't rip me off? I guess I'll have to wait..." Going back to the deer, I make sure it has water. Sitting beside it, I state at the door, waiting.
