Council Meeting

Dear Imena,

When I got back to my castle, Adam was there waiting for me in the main sitting room.

"Hey, how did it-"

"Call the other Council members for a meeting, I can be there in ten minutes if that works for everyone else." I said, and rushed off.

Ten minutes later, I was walking into a conference room in my castle that we had agreed to meet in. Everyone's eyes were on me as I took my seat at the circular table between Adam and Clyde.

"So, what did you call us for?" Adam asked.

"Well, I was just at a meeting with a new world leader to make our usual peace deal...and he declined." I said.

"He what?!" They all yelled, and broke out into panicked chatter.

"Everyone, try to stay calm." I pleaded.

"How are we supposed to stay calm? Harm could come to our people and our kingdom if that deal isn't made. You know this, Spirit. Didn't you call us here because you're worried too?" Gaden snapped.

I glared at Gaden. "Yes, I am slightly worried, but I thought I was overreacting and now that you all are worried it makes me more worried." My breathing sped up rapidly, and my body began to shake.

Adam put his hand on my shoulder, I took a deep breath before speaking again.

"I've been doing this job for four and a half years, and I've never experienced anything like today. After I explained everything to him he just said no and called guards to escort me out. Usually, they're excited to be included in something so secretive and they genuinely care about the relationship between Earth and the Vail, but he just didn't." I said.

"I know you don't like to do this, but did you read his mind? That may at least give us some clues as to why he declined." Cosmia commented.

"That power is stronger than most of my other ones, if I don't try to control it, I can read someone's mind without much effort or thought about it. But even if I had wanted to, I don't think I could have. There was something...off about him, like he was shutting me out before I even walked into the room." I said.

The Council was quiet for a moment.

"Maybe he was just nervous. I know you water signs are very empathic, but maybe you just misread the situation." Yvette said.

"I guess it's possible. Our own feelings and the feelings of other people withing a certain radius can mix in with the feeling of the room. Maybe you were picking up on some of his staff's emotions too." Moira said.

I shrugged and nodded. I didn't think that was the case, but they weren't in the room with me, how could they know?

We decided we would give the new leader a week to decide, if he didn't agree to the peace deal, we would take action by quietly wiping the memories of the first meeting from him and his staff and have him removed from power.

The meeting ended, and I was left in an empty castle, Milo was still on Earth and my few staff members had all gone home for the day. I had a bad feeling about the new leader that I couldn't quite place, and I knew if I wanted to find out what that feeling was, I would have to investigate on my own.
