(the narrator)
by the way, a legion is a beast endemic to the world of jack, a type of ghost that is capable of devouring the souls of other beings. they are one of the most powerful and at the same time the most unstable of the ghosts.
(DAY 138)
(meanwhile, at the grave city, the place where the kid got his body.)
Stephen - looks like we are really in some deep trouble.
Albert - why does it matter, Lord. it's not like this is the first time that the undead has risen from this city.
Stephen - true, but this particular grave is very special. you know that this city was one of the first victims of the great war. not long after it fell, the golden one personally came to this place and placed a seal on one particular room in this place.
Albert - let me guess it is this one.
Stephen - yep, it is one of the main reasons that I set my city in this place. anything that requires the personal attention of the golden one is a useful ally indeed. with the dungeon lord right next to us, this was the perfect place.
Albert - should I order the troops to strengthen their guard.
Stephen - nope, we will be retreating pretty soon. now that I think about it, maybe I should have never set my base in this place. I did not get any benefit from this place.
Albert - but what about those servants of the gods. quite a few of our troops support the gods.
Stephen - don't worry about them, the dungeon Lord has promised that he shall rid us of them. so have you picked any nice place for us? please make sure that this new place of ours doesn't have a power structure as confusing as this place. I still don't know on which side that dungeon lord is on.
Albert - I have picked the perfect place, Lord so you don't need to worry. by when will you be able to move your sword.
Stephen - give me a month, I should be able to move it then, though you will need to do something about that god's servant. he makes me uncomfortable. he is quite capable.
Albert - don't worry about that.
(saying that Stephen disappears, leaving behind his second in command behind again)
(DAY 139)
the last couple of days have proved quite enlightening to me. that death raiser spell of mine might just be the perfect spell that I have got my hands on.
while I am still not exactly sure how it works. all I can say is that some kind of energy quite similar to that of a soul is being filled in those bones, making them pseudo-sentient, allowing me to manipulate them quite freely and move them using bone possession. I almost moved ten skeletons worth of bones with about ninety units of mana. I would need ten times that amount to move the same amounts of bones, at that kind of velocities. though, this miscalculation of mine might have proven to be quite embarrassing for mad dragon. you see bone possession is a spell whose power and speed are directly proportional to the mana I put in. after that massive bone manipulation, I was expecting to have four or five units of mana left. I used a possessed bone with almost twenty units of mana on the kid, which means rather than embarrass the kid, I ended up wounding him.
the kid had to bring my skeleton to the base, with that wound on his back. everybody thought that we had been attacked by some kind of powerful enemy. to maintain that kid's pride I had to follow suit. I had to lie that I was attacked first, losing consciousness before the enemy was even seen just because the kid had forgotten to mention what had attacked us, I really should stop sparring with the kid. looks like I won't be getting any reputation in this place.
anyway turns out using bone possession on such a massive number of bones, made me get a level in bone possession and a level in death raiser .this is my status right now.
species - death totem
mana - 110/110
skills - string manipulation - lvl 10
bone bolt- lvl 8
dream walk- lvl 0
bone possession - lvl 3
bone seed
death raiser- lvl 1
to be honest, this level progression is a bit weird. there is no real change in the skill, other than being able to use it a bit more easily and consume less mana.
based on what has been told to me, shouldn't there be more fancy rewards for leveling up. anyway, we are lagging a bit on the hunting part. we can complete the demand for classless bodies. the kids have got about twenty corpses, two more than my expectations if I have to say so. the class 9 bodies will be a bit of a problem
we have only one class 9 and even he is too unstable, to Be honest. the explosive spikes are quite effective. the main problem for these guys during hunting is their lack of any ranged ability.
the explosive spikes fulfill that quite nicely and with patience and enough information(something that they know more than me, they have hunted here for centuries) they can complete their job quite nicely, even the shoddy ones that they have built themselves. there is a brat among them that is capable of making quite a few good seals(at least by my standards.). his name is mad wolf, though I don't understand these guys obsession with such weird names. well, who am I to judge? anyway, I just need to wait till tomorrow and I can finally hunt myself. right now, I am just trying to restore myself as quickly as possible. restoring this string circuit does help me figure out the stuff in the book better. speaking about the book, that third page has yet to open. honestly speaking I think I need to create a certain number of meridians to open it. I don't think the risk is worth the benefits.
anyway, time to get back to work I suppose. this string circuit won't fix itself.
(DAY 140)
the string circuit didn't take long to fix as the damage was pretty rudimentary. I still haven't gained my old speed. another weird thing that happen was the skeletons on which I have used death Raiser. they have followed me. it was a very creepy sight. a mass of bones all connected in a deformed manner.
the instant that I saw them I could feel a kind of connection to them. I can't explain this connection. I use bone possession on the mass of bones, separating them first of all. looks like my abilities as a totem are going to require a lot of research. I am not even going to touch that bone seed ability. I have no interest in dying by being buried in the ground. I am still quite the young man.
I buried them under the ground. I can see that the kids are uncomfortable seeing them and have no interest in making them uncomfortable.
anyway, I have a lot of work to do, after all even I need to hunt. it is one of the few places where I excel. I already have quite a few targets ready for my hunts. none of them are at the chimera level but it does not matter. as long as the beast has a core in its body, it will be enough for my pseudo bosses.
today I have three groups to hunt. one of them is the leaf rabbit( also known as armor rabbit.) a group of flame apes and finally a group of grey goblins. the grey goblins are somewhat smart beasts, capable of using weapons though they are still pretty dumb beasts. turns out once these beasts gain a class nine core, they can evolve themselves becoming many times smarter and getting a more human shape. they were the human-like figures that I had seen long ago at the start of the invasion.
regardless, now they do not wield that level of intelligence.
well, this hunting trip shall allow me to figure out my powers. right now I am not even sure what exactly I have done with those skeletons. I need to see exactly what kind of weaknesses that I hold. personally, I like to distance myself from research into souls, but this is a matter of survival now. it's not like I am forcing some poor soul into doing my bidding.
anyway, it's time for me to work.
(live recording)
I am quite close to the rabbit hideout. according to my knowledge, there are seven rabbits here. if I catch them by surprise, I should be able to handle them. I have been bringing the skeletons with me. turns out that the skeletons will follow me regardless of where I go, at the very least, I can make it move underground.
anyway, the rabbits are hiding in a cave, with only one entrance. block that place and all of the corpses will be mine. right now the beasts are lazing about, almost aimlessly. from what I can tell these beasts have been born recently, after the beginning of the invasion. that is why I am so confidently attacking this place. that makes the case of the flame apes even more interesting. that leader flame ape was not only intelligent but also very experienced. if a few weeks was enough to make a person ( or beast ) that experienced then, I would be a millennia-old sage.
I can think of a thousand possibilities, but that is not necessary for me now.
the seven beasts all have periods when most of them are sleeping. right now about five of them are sleeping, leaving behind two to guard the people.
there is not much use in sneaking into the place, I will be caught right after I enter. so I just charge in, throwing one of the bone spear at a rabbit piercing through its legs. I was aiming for the heart, but the beast reacted too quickly. regardless it is stuck. one of the rabbit begins to activate it's ability while digging around. the remaining five have also awoken.
rather than immediately begin to kill them, I want to try something. you see, using that bone possession in battle yesterday gave me a couple of ideas as to how I could use it.
the bone possession spell is like telekinesis with bones. while I mostly use it to change the direction of projectiles. that spell can be used on me as well.
in most cases, it will not serve me any purposes and could cause negative effects, but at the right moment, like the time when I thrusting my spear or swinging it (like when I wounded that brat. ) leave that be, I could be using it when running to increase my speed. right at the moment that I am leaving the ground, a push upwards could help. again, I think only experienced warriors like me could pull it off. even I can't pull it off perfectly yet, but I am getting better.
anyway, I allow the rabbits to summon their armours. there are so many that without this new trick of mine I would have lost a couple of limbs, but the benefits are equally good. I can't move faster but I can do something similar to a dash when I run, and also increase the force of my atta...
shit, I lost my focus for a second and lost control of the bone possession spell. the result was that my arm with the spear flew away from my body at a ridiculous speed. I think it is time for me to get serious. I retreat, using the string circuit to summon my arm. man, my string circuit was barely repaired and I have to use such a damaging method. anyway, I use a bone bolt at one of the rabbits that were stupid enough to stand that close to me.
(after ten minutes)
even after getting serious, it took me quite a bit to kill them. the armours only serve as a hindrance, especially in such a confined place. the rabbits themselves are good at dodging, especially in the limited space of the cave,(there needs to be a certain distance from the enemy to use my spear effectively. can you imagine, swinging my spear at a rabbit and having it get stuck in an armour.) which makes it pretty hard to deal with them. the only time that they are not moving when they use that spell of theirs and I did not kill them when they could do that. anyway I am very tired now, let's talk at some other time. I really feel like sleeping now.
