-----------------------------------------------------------------

Albus came up the side of the house just as we had started packing the bags, other than looking a bit green he appeared fine and even helped us load up the bags.

"How are you feeling man?" I asked lowering my voice.

"Fine, I guess."

We were using the old minivan gran still possessed. It was working just fine and we did have a decent amount of fuel, but according to what Carly said about the trip it was certain that we would need to find some more petrol on the way.

We all just carried a backpack each with our essentials, just some water, iodine to purify it, food, a jacket or a hoodie and some weapons on our belts with just a personal touch to each of our bags. We did also have bags with our clothes all except Carly who was wearing my jeans and a shirt, all of which were big for her.

As I was opening the door for the front seat gran shouted from the back,"Let Carly sit up front she knows the way!" Just as a smug faced Carly sat in the front and said,"Close the door please." I obliged with a groan.

I sat in the back with Albus as gran was finishing the final checks on the van. I looked at gran before making conversation with Albus,"She looks much fitter today, doesn't she?" Which to be honest was true she did not usually volunteer to pick up her own bags or have the agility for it, or so I thought.

"I too have noted something like that," he continued lowering his voice enough so that Carly could not hear it,"but I was more interested in knowing how I fell sick yesterday."

"I actually also wanted to talk about that, didn't you think,"I checked my surroundings for gran,"didn't you think that you and I both had quite similar 'crazy moments', I mean look both of us after getting a wound had very supposed to turn us into zombie symptoms right," I finished.

He went into his analysis mode he was looking very confused, I could tell that he was also trying to make sense of things. He then opened his mouth to say something, closed it and just kept silent with his arms folded.

Gran got into the car and turned the key to ignition, the car gave a few handsome stutters and went silent, gran knit her eyebrows and turned the key just a bit tougher this time muttering,"Come on girl."

The engine roared to life at which she commented,"That's my baby!" We set off at a slow pace towards the gate, I looked back at the house biding my thanks and whispering a silent goodbye for all of the happy moments we had, that was when an infected came up near the gate.

The gate was quite narrow, it was just bare enough for our car to get through, I assumed that gran would be unwilling to ram it with the car so I opened the door to take care of it. Most of the zombies had gained quite a lot of what can be called abilities from the conversion but at what cost, only one their sanity.

Zombies had red glowing eyes, a always hanging jaw to never miss grabbing food, a heightened sense of smell and as far as I knew downgraded sense of smell and eyesight, exceptional physical endurance, and as far as I knew, never-ending stamina. It could detect movement but it doesn't see too well I assumed as I sunk into a crouch and proceeded towards it.

It saw me a mere five feet away from it I steadied my spear and lunged, the spear went right through its eye but it did not give up it gave a growl and then a massive screech, loud enough to cause a lasting headache. I pinned it into the ground with my spear towards the hinge so that it could not get up, it's body was still convulsing trying to reach me.

As I looked up I saw them, my legs turned to jelly I stumbled backwards, I got to my senses and I ran, I ran straight towards the van as fast as I could I noticed a fly stop midair as I was passing, my gear overriding every possible explanation.

I got in the car, sweat breaking on my forehead not from exhaustion but fear,"Drive!" I shouted,"Drive fast and take a left quick!" Everyone, but gran looked at me gran put in the gear and sunk the pedal she was driving rash to say the least as we passed the gate everyone looked left and we saw it again.

There was a sea of enraged red eyes glaring at us. Not an inch of buildings or even pavement was to be seen among the enormous horde, my skin crawling at the sight. Gran revved the car and we shot forwards the horde seeing us and catching the sound of the car the looked towards us hungrily and shuffled towards us, first at a slow pace and then to the fastest they could probably move.

Gran was driving like a madman through the streets barely avoiding stragglers, loners of zombies who hung around, she was driving at a very high speed and trying to follow the instructions that Carly gave, Carly was quite calm during this, I assumed that as a frequent traveller she was used to this. We quickly made it onto a highway where there were the remaining cars from the initial outbreak. I turned around and saw that the horde was still chasing us at distance.
