Chapter 9

𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗴𝗸𝗼𝗼𝗸'𝘀 𝗣𝗢𝗩

They all watched as Kate's dark figure ran towards the fence.

"Why don't we all just go there? Won't it be easier?" Jiwon spoke, but no one answered.

"Why's she not going up?" Jungkook spoke. The group watched the two, only to see Hoseok vigorously climbing back up the fence.

"Maybe we should go there too?" Jungkook suggested.

They waited for Jin's approval. "Just run!" He ordered and the group ran.

As they approached they saw a large bear racing towards the fence.

Hoseok was crossing the top when the bear had already reached the fence and was jumping on it trying to attack.

"Hoseok come down!" Jimin called.

"I can't!" Hoseok yelled back. He couldn't come back down unless his fingers were to be torn apart.

"What do we do now?" Kate asked, who was consulting Ava because she was crying.

"Guys! Do something!" Hoseok yelped. "My hands are burning!"

Jungkook pushed his hair back with both his hands as he thought.

'𝘑𝘶𝘮𝘱!'

"Everyone come here!" Jungkook called standing under Hoseok.

"Hoseok, let go!" He called.

"What?! NO!" Hoseok called back.

"This is the only way you can get off with your fingers still in one piece, come on, hurry, just let go!!" Jungkook yelled back.

Hoseok let go of the fence and fell back. The group grunted and pulled Hoseok to his feet and they all stepped back as the ragging bear stood on its two feet growling at them. Kate sighed.

"Wasn't one problem enough?" she questioned.

"What do we do now?" Jiwon spoke. Jungkook watched as she moved closer to Jimin.

"Jin! Load the gun, we might have to shoot it down," Jungkook spoke looking at the bear.

"You're gonna' kill it!" Hani grabbed Jungkook turning him around.

"We have to, or else we might not be able to leave."

Everyone looked at Jin and he started loading.

"Guys........" Hoseok and Ava spoke.

"We have company," Hoseok ended.

The group turned around to see a Hollowen lumbering past.

"Lower yourselves," Jungkook whispered.

As they lowered themselves and hid behind a tree, the bear roared grabbing the Hollowen's attention. The Hollowen stopped and stared in the direction. Jungkook's eyes widened.

'𝘞𝘦 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘮𝘰𝘷𝘦, 𝘰𝘳 𝘦𝘭𝘴𝘦 𝘸𝘦 𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘮𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘥𝘪𝘦.'

Jungkook hustled quickly, signalling everyone to follow. They went about in a quick motion until they were no longer near the fence or the bear or the Hollowen.

Suddenly there was 'boom', he turned around to see Hoseok stumbling back from the impact of the gun. He looked back to see the Hollowen turn into dust.

Jungkook smiled and turned back to Hoseok.

"One shot, one kill! Nice!" He called.

"Not very nice," Hani said pulling on Jungkook's arm turning him back around. They all watched as the bear stumbled back from fright, then eventually walked in. In the process of killing the Hollowen, Hoseok had shot a small hole through the fence, which the bear tore apart to get in.

"It's okay, don't worry, it's better than a Hollowen.......... I guess," Jungkook spoke, calming himself down.

"We have to kill it, if we run we're going to be further away from the fence," Jin spoke as he started loading, followed by Jimin.

Once that was loaded Jin shot, missing the bear completely. The bear was now on its hind legs smelling the air.

"Damn it! These guns are so annoying!" He complained.

'𝘐'𝘮 𝘴𝘪𝘤𝘬 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴.'

"Give me this," Jungkook spoke as seized the gun from Jimin and steered it towards the bear and shot. It only grazed the bear. It roared from pain and looked around, spotting Jungkook, who was staring at it just as terrified as his friends.

"Forget it, just run!" Jungkook yelled but everyone was already on it. The bear was charging towards the group.

"Stick to the fence!" Jimin yelled from the back.

"It's gaining on us!" Hani huffed. "I can't run anymore!"

Jungkook turned to look back, Hani was falling behind and Jimin was right by her side. He stopped running and pulled the lever on the gun only to realise it wasn't loaded.

'𝘋𝘥𝘢𝘦𝘯𝘨 𝘪𝘵.'

He looked up and instead charged towards the bear, while everyone shrieked in the back. The gun connected with the bear's face and he heard a crack. The other end of the gun flung into the side of his hip and he grunted, falling back.

The group was soon hovering over him as he held his hip in pain.

"Jungkook!! Are you okay??" Hani asked shaking him nonchalantly. Jungkook held his hip tightly as the pain grew, curling up in a ball, but soon it started to ease, while he lay lifeless and out of breath staring at the night sky which was full of stars. Reminding him of that one night he lay in his backyard with his parents.

"Get him up," Hoseok said to Jimin.

"You think it's dead?" Jiwon asked, shifting everyone's attention to Soomin, who was examining the bear.

"I doubt it. It's probably unconscious for now, so we better get out of here," she said getting up.

~~~~~~
The group walked back towards the fence and to their surprise, in peace. They weren't attacked by any Hollowens.
"You think they're all dead?" Minji asked.
Jungkook chuckled and spoke sarcastically. "Yeah, right, like we killed all of them over 2 nights."
~~~

"How does it feel to finally be able to leave this place?" Hoseok asked, looking at Jungkook as he stared at the other side.

"Successful," he smiled.

"Lead the way!" Jin said and he did.

They all stepped out and proudly walked away, emerged in the thick density of trees, in a hope of finding their way back home....alive. And the only one who looked back was Jungkook.
