Liza: Broken Via

Liza : 18 years

Location : London

Two more years have passed and now I'm a final year student. It's been five years since I've arrived her at London. I like it here.

The people...the atmosphere... the art....culture... literature...beauty...

Today is Jessica's birthday. She was finally turning eighteen. Olivia and I, decided to buy her a surprise gift and we were out shopping for it.

"Hey, what do you think about this watch? Do you think Jess will like it?" Olivia says pointing at a women's rolex watch.

"Yeah, It's black and it has crystals.Perfect! She will love it." I say smiling excitedly.

Olivia and I are now in a relationship but we are not in love. I guess one can refer it to as being, "Friends with benefits". Nothing more than that. Just two damaged souls trying to comfort each other.

After my encounter with Olivia, I kept running into her at the hallway , sometimes at the cafeteria and at other times at the library.

Although Jessica warned me not to associate with her, I just couldn't help myself. Under that tough badass mask that Olivia wore, I saw an affection craving child. The fact she resembled Joan was another pivotal point.

My eyes followed her everywhere. I wanted to know everything about her.

From various sources I came to know that Olivia is a popular girl at school who had many fans especially boys who were looking for an opportunity to hook up with her. She was known as "The Queen" among boys and "The Slutty Goddess" among girls for her ability to ruin relationships with her pretty face and seductive power.

Although Olivia did hook up with many people, she never ignored her studies. Surprisingly, she was a straight A student. The girls hated her, but at the same time they wanted to be like her. One thing I noticed about her was that she was always surrounded by boys and at rare occasions, a few girls, but I highly doubt if they were her friends.

One day Olivia came upto and said, "Hey, do you wanna have lunch with me?"

She seemed desperate.

"Yeah sure, let's have it together then." I smile.

That day onwards, Olivia and I, started hanging out together and our alliance blossomed into friendship. Although Jessica was against it first, gradually she too came to accept the friendship.

Jessica, Olivia and myself , soon started hanging out together. The students began to call us, "The opposite trio". The name fitted us perfectly. We really were opposites in many aspects but that was the beauty of our trio gang.

After Olivia's graduation, she took a year off before attending college. During that time, Jessica and I, visited her home often.

Olivia came a from rich family. Her parents were the owners of Electon Raiver. One of London's biggest Luxury Fashion designer company. Only Jess and I knew about it. She wanted the information to be kept a secret for various reasons.

One day while we were hanging out together, I noticed her being unusually happy. She kept looking up at the sky, making strange gestures and then out of nowhere, bursted out into laughter.

"You look happy?" I ask her smiling.

"Hey Liza, do you believe in love?" Olivia says looking up at the sky.

"Well that was unexpected, Mmmm... I guess so. I do believe in love but you need to find the right one."

"Well, I don't." Olivia sighs.

"Why don't you?"

" Mmmm...hey Liz...do you want to know the reason I don't kiss anyone on their lips?" Olivia says turning her gaze towards me.

"Why?" I gaze at her trying to read her emotions.

"It's because I'm scared to do so, Liz. I'm terrified of love and to fall in love. What if I kiss someone, I fall in love with that person, I give them my all. My time, my love, my energy, my body and then one day that person just stops loving me, saying that he's done with me and that he never loved me but only my money. What do you think I must do then?", she says, her eyes glimmering with tears.

It was too much for me to digest. I didn't know how to respond to her question so I keep silent.

"You know, if something like that happens you should never give up. You must take revenge and that's exactly what I did when I fucked his brother and demolished his family." Olivia bursts out laughing. I could read the pain behind her laugh though.

"You what?" I was dumbfounded.

"Well I didn't stop there. I wanted revenge and I took it. It took it out on love. I don't just go and hook up with random guys. I look for potential targets. The fake ones. They are my targets. In a way, I feel like I'm doing something good for the society. I'm literally saving girl's from getting hurt just like I did. " Olivia burst out laughing but her eyes told a different tale.

I lay there speechless, teary eyed. I always wondered what had happened to her. Why she behaved in such a promiscuous what and what situation might have prompted her to become such a cold and reckless individual. Why she hid the fact that she was rich from others.

Now I know why.

" You do realise I was telling you my story right?" she giggles.

" Yeah, I did."

Olivia is just a broken damaged soul who was betrayed and left to wail. Under that happy mask hid a weak lonely soul who has lost her faith in love. Her story taught me to never judge a book by its cover. She was a martyr. Love killed her. A true heroine. There was nothing I could do for her expect, offer a shoulder to cry on.

" I'm here Via. Everything's gonna be okay. Better days would come and you will find love eventually." I say, smiling.

"You think so?" Olivia smiles

"Yeah".
