Chapter 37

Aya glared at Carl. "A full circle?"

"Yes, a full circle, all of your insecurities, your thoughts, your doubts, comes back to what happened with Luke."

Aya placed her cup back in the table, sitting back in the couch.

"So what do you suggest I start then, Carl?"

Carl shrugged at her. "Just where you think we should or rather let us start from the beginning."

Aya let out a long sigh. "So beginning as in where Luke and I started?"

Carl nodded. "You said you keep comparing Hoseok to Luke, so that means you are evaluating how you connected with each man individually."

Aya was staring at Carl, she opened her mouth then closed it again.

"Ho...How do you know this?"

"You are easy to read and I know that Luke was the only man you ever knew."

Aya couldn't deny the fact that Luke was the only man she ever knew, her thoughts were wandering.

Carl smiled, he stood up taking her empty cup. "I'll make us more tea, while you get some of your thoughts in order."

Aya gave him a small indication that she heard him, she closed her eyes. How will she ever get over this? Maybe she should start with when she first met Luke and work it from there?

Carl returned with their tea, he placed her cup down, taking his seat. "Well, did you figure it out?"

Aya opened her eyes, looking him straight in the eye.

"Yes, we should start how I met Luke and why I feel that I need to compare Hoseok to him."

Carl's face was emotionless. "I am listening, Aya."

Aya took a deep breath.

"Honestly I didn't like Luke when we first met in the last year of high school. Cassandra introduced us."

"How did he make you feel?"

"He made me feel like a trophy he should win. Now that I think back a week after we met he changed."

"Changed how?"

"He started to show more interest in the things that I liked, he started listening to my problems. He showed me a side that I wanted in a man, he became caring, thoughtful and he stood up for me."

"And then?"

"Now that I think back, you were hanging out less with us, Carl."

"I know, but don't get off-topic Aya. We can talk about that another time."

"I started to realise I couldn't do anything without him. After high school, his personality changed again."

Carl took a sip of his tea. "Go on."

"He started to get possessive so that I couldn't visit my family, friends except for Cassandra."

"And?"

"I always had to tell him where I was, what I was doing. Sometimes I was afraid."

"Afraid of what?"

"To go somewhere without him, my phone would never stop ringing if he weren't there."

"If you think about it now was that a healthy relationship?"

Aya went quiet, she was staring at her cup with a blank expression.

"No, it was not a healthy relationship. So when I got the call that my parents died in a car crash, he suddenly proposed to me and I could see my friends again."

"What did I tell you?" Carl's voice was only a whisper.

Aya's head snapped up, looking, Carl straight in the eye.
