As Noah was about to run to the crazy man, Ava stood in the middle of both of them and put her arm out towards Noah to stop him from going any further. She screamed and turned around and stared into the man's deep, earthly, brown eyes. She dropped Noah's shirt from her shoulders and clenched her fists in anger eyeing his every move.
"You think that's gonna intimidate me. You're just a scrawny little girl. What could you possibly do to me?" He sneered.
"Right, that's enough! Don't you dare touch her or talk about her like that!" Noah yelled.
The man lifted his axe right in the air and aimed it towards Ava.
"Say bye-bye to your friend."
With all his mighty force, he threw the axe at Ava's head with an evil grin on his face. Noah yelled at Ava to get out of the way, but Ava was so concentrated on the axe that she didn't hear him. As Noah ran towards Ava, he quickly went back when the axe stopped in mid-air and it flew across the street landing on a tree. The man looked at Ava terrified.
"What are you!" he yelled as he stumbled backwards.
Ava started making her way towards him, her hair covering her face and her fists still clenched.
"Ava? Is that you?" Noah questioned fearfully.
Ava quickly looked at Noah, her piercing black eyes staring deep into his soul. He looked at her chest and saw that the amulet was glowing a Tyrian purple. She had veins running through her arms and the little visible bit of her face was pale white. Noah carefully stepped backwards careful of not triggering her. Ava took a sharp 180-degree turn to face the man who was astonishing to what he had just witnessed. He was looking for something to protect him with.
He looked behind him and saw a long stick, big enough to cause a lot of damage. As he was about to pick it up Ava moved her head to the right which launched the stick across the street. He fell over as the stick disappeared from his hand. He quickly got up and as he was trying to grab anything in sight Ava just kept moving them away from his leaving him defenceless.
He got on his knees and with teary eyes looked up at her, "I'm sorry! I'm sorry!".
Ava felt no mercy for him and kept dragging herself towards him as he shuffled backwards slowly.
"Please! Spare me! I have a little brother to take care of. I promise I won't do it again, please?!"
She stopped and stared above him, her hair covering her face features.
"Ava..." Noah whispered.
She looked at him as she moved her hair from her face. Her face was returning to her natural peachy face with her rosy lips. He arms going back to its original state. Her eyes changing back to green. The man took the advantage and took his only chance to run away. Noah hurried towards Ava and put her arm over his shoulder as he led her towards the bench. He sat her down and held her hand. He looked up to see that the man had run away. He sighed as he checked on Ava. Her amulet wasn't glowing anymore but there was a purple bruise around it.
"Ava, are you okay?"
She nodded using all her remaining energy. Noah rubbed her back looking around to see if any cars or buses were coming, but the street was empty. He saw the axe on the tree, still bewildered by the recent events.
"Ava?"
She hummed in response, "hmm."
"How did you do that?"
She wearily looked up at him and shrugged. Noah guessed she was too tired to think right now so he left all the bombarding questions overflowing his mind to himself.
"Ava, we have to go home."
She groaned and drowsily got up, wobbling a bit. Noah held on to her as they started to walk. Ava was getting sleepier and more tired as they walked towards home, so Noah carried her, and he walked towards the school. By the time Noah reached the school, Ava had fallen asleep in his arms. He kept walking past the school towards the park where they would hang out. He sat on one of the playhouses and put Ava on his lap resting her head on his chest. He gently took the hair out of her face and looked at her face.
He stared at her face like a spell was cast on him. He brushed hair out of his face with his hands and whispered to himself.
"How can such a beautiful and kind-hearted human being like you suffer so much. You don't deserve any of this; you deserve all the happiness in the world. I wish I could take all of this pain and this supernatural thing away from you. I will rather be the one suffering that you be the one. I wish I could make you happy. But since we started talking more often, all these bad things are happening and it's all my fault. Maybe by now, you would be happier if I never spoke to you. I love you so much that my heart throbs ache not being able to tell you this every day of your life."
He sighed and sat there looking at the sky for a few minutes.
"Noah?" Ava said in a sleepy voice.
"Hey Ava," Noah answered with a sad smile.
She sat up and looked at her surroundings in confusion.
"Where are we?"
"We're at the park."
She nodded and looked at him, her face rapidly changing to a worried expression.
"What's wrong?"
"Nothing" he bluntly answered.
"Is it because of everything that happened today?"
He remained silent and looked at the stars that glowed like streetlamps. Ava sat next to him and hugged him tight.
"I'm sorry."
He dug his face in her hair and hugged her back, enjoying every moment. All of a sudden, they heard a loud, forced cough.
