The Descendants

They sat down on the ancient chairs as they laid the book in front of them. Noah carefully wiped all the years of dust from it to reveal a golden-brown cover with the words 'Book of Sorcerers and Societies' imprinted on it. Ava traced over it with her delicate fingers as she felt a rush of energy surge through her body. She quickly took her hand away from the book and nodded at Noah. She looked up to see the librarian weirdly looking at them as she subconsciously scanned books. Ava tapped Noah's shoulder and pointed at the lady who was engulfing them in her stare. They picked up the book and moved to the furthest table and faced the wall so no-one could see what they were doing. He placed the book in front of Ava, as he rummaged through his bag.

"What are you looking for?" Ava asked.

"My history book."

Noah pulled out one of the history books from his class and accidentally slammed it on the table. They both rapidly looked back at the old lady who angrily stared at them. Noah gave her an apologetic look while raising one hand as a sign of sorry. They turned around as Noah flicked through the pages trying to find the page with information of the amulet. He rapidly scanned each page as he finally stumped his finger on one of the pages with proudness. Ava looked over to the history book and saw a replica of the amulet on the book. She swiped the book from Noah's hand and brought it towards her as she shifted the other book to one side. She mumbled some words until she found what she was looking for.

"A society called Assembly of Devilry or could also be called Twisted Sisterhood. But there isn't any information on what it does or anything. It just says that it can't be found but developed with the body."

Ava rubbed over her amulet whilst reading the rest of the information. She shut the book and moved it to the side as she took the other book. She placed it between her and Noah. He opened the page and looked through the contents page until he found what he was looking for. He looked for the page number and opened the book on it. As Ava saw all the information on the book, she started getting hesitant. She was scared that what she will find is a bad thing and when everyone finds out what she had become they would all hate her; she fidgeted with her fingers as she took deep slow breaths. Noah noticed this and put his hand on her thigh, giving her a comforting smile.

"You want to read it or should I?" he questioned.

"You."

He nodded and bent over to read the top of the page. The Twisted Sisterhood was an evil group who worshipped the devil. It first began when a man named Zen Borges possessed a child by putting an evil entity inside its body. Zen Borges believed in ghosts and evil spirits. His dream was always to become the greatest ruler over these supernatural things and his first target was young adults or kids. He was one of the few who could perform magic and witchcraft. One of his most famous rituals was sacrificing children to the devil.

Ava shuddered at the thought of all those kids who had suffered. She didn't want to read or listen anymore, but she wanted an explanation as to what was happening to her and maybe if her new powers, she had could help her find Annie. She held on all her will to give up and kept reading and listening.

After Zan Borges mastered his abilities and knew all the rituals by heart he decided to bring together a few people who supported him and created a group called Assembly of the Devilry. He taught each of them how to complete rituals and how to possess people. Years went by, and by the time they knew it they had a couple of hundreds of people who were willing to join and many captivated children. When Zen Borges died, women started ruling over the group. That's where the name the Twisted Sisterhood comes from. They stalked kids until they were on their own, and that's when they would kidnap them and make them be one of them. Men and women were involved but women were more powerful. They all had different kinds of powers to torture people with. One thing they had in common was that they all had an amulet in the centre of their chest.

Noah looked at Ava who stayed still. She couldn't move her body, she felt stuck. All kinds of thoughts flowed through her mind; she couldn't believe what she just heard.

"Is there any information of the amulet?" she bluntly stated.

Noah shook his head and went to the back of the book.

"The only book with that information is held from the descendants of..."

"What? What's wrong?"

"Amherst..."

Ava stared at Noah in disbelief.

"Check again. It can't be possible."

"It is. I read it correctly."

"Aaliyah Amherst."

They both stared at each other in confusion. How was Aaliyah a descendant?

"Well, I guess we have to go talk to her," Noah remarked as he shut the book.

"What! Why?"

"Do you want to find out about the amulet?"

Ava groaned and dragged herself out of the chair as they walked towards the librarian so they could scan the book out.

They walked out of the library as Ava pleaded him to ask her.

"Noah please?"

"Ava, you have to do it yourself."

"But why?" she whined.

Ava knew that Aaliyah liked Noah, so it would make their lives easier if he asked her since she would agree to it.

"Ugh, fine. I'll do it."

"Good. I'll take the book home and try to find out more information. You go get some rest."

"Okay. Bye."

He waved back at her and they parted their ways. Ava reached home and spent the rest of her night thinking of how to approach Aaliyah.

The next day came and Ava was stressing about everything. She really needed the book, but she couldn't tell her the real reason why. She sighed as she walked to school. Noah told her they would meet at the school gates, but she really didn't have any energy to talk to anyone. She spent all night trying to rehearse what she was going to say and in her mind, it was alright but how would it be in front of her. They met a bit earlier so that they had a bit more time before lessons begun.

"Are you ready?" Noah inquired.

Ava looked at him with pleading eyes.

"No. I am not going to talk to her for you."

Ava rolled her eyes and mentally prepared herself for what she believed- was the hardest thing she's ever done. They walked until they saw Aaliyah on her phone across the hallway. Noah turned Ava around to face him and held her shoulders.

"You got this. I'll be right here," he spoke giving her a reassuring smile.

She vigorously shook her head as Noah pushed her ahead. Ava awkwardly walked towards Aaliyah and stood in front of her for a few seconds. Aaliyah then lifted her head up and arched her eyebrow.

"What do you want?" she coldly remarked.

"J-just wanted to ask you how your day was going so far."

"Well, it's bad. And why are you asking anyway? Shouldn't you be sitting at the corner weeping because of Antae?"

"Annie..." she corrected her.

Aaliyah frowned at her and crossed her arms as she glared at Ava.

"Anyway. Umm. I heard that you own a book about these amulets and jewellery. Could I please borrow it for a while?"

"And what makes you think I would give it to a low life like you," she hissed.

Ava looked down, angered by her comment. She didn't want to blow her chances.

"Because you're a kind person?" Ava guessed.

But all she received was a cackle and snorting from her.

"Please could I just borrow the book."

"No."

"Please? I really need it." Ava begged.

"I said no so get out of my sight you dirty rodent. You're ruining my reputation. I can't have people like you around me, you wannabe."

Ava couldn't take it anymore, so she stepped closer to her, their noses almost touching. She could feel her breathing on her. Ava opened her eyes wide and Aaliyah stared into pure darkness. Ghosts and spirits flew around in her eyes as Aaliyah looked deep into it. She couldn't move a muscle, it felt like her body was being controlled. Ava closed her eyes and stepped back as her eyes went back to their natural colour.

"H-how!" Aaliyah bellowed.

"Are you going to listen to me now?" Ava thundered.

Aaliyah fearfully nodded.

"I want the book by tomorrow morning."

Ava smirked and walked back to Noah, leaving Aaliyah speechless.

"So... Did you manage to convince her?"

"Yup," she gleamed.

Noah joyfully hugged Ava and they walked to their next class.
