Chapter 4

[Carla's Pov]

After going through the clues once more and getting a little help from one of my sources, I finally got the inside spy.

This morning, I called Chris so that we can prepare to interrogate and get the information about the mastermind from the spy.

"So who is it? Agent Misa or Romano?" Chris asked me again as we entered the agency.

"You will find out soon" I repeated and Chris sighed.

I noticed Director Adams talking to an agent and left Chris, walking towards Director Adams.

"Director Adams, I need to talk to you" I said after the agent that was talking to him left.

He turned to me and smiled.

"Of course, let's discuss in my office" He said and moved towards his office. I nodded my head in agreement as I followed him with Chris.

We all entered his office, Chris and I sat down as Director Adams made his way to his desk chair.

"What did you want to talk about?" Director Adams asked as he faced us, specifically me since I am the only one that could have solved the riddle.

"Well, I narrowed it down to Agent Misa or Romano, can you guess which one is the spy?" I said playfully and smiled.

The two glanced at each other before looking back at me. They looked puzzled, not knowing who to chose.

I smiled at their reaction before getting up.

"Can you call Agent Romano to the interrogating room?" I asked winking as I opened the door to leave.

Their eyes lit up in understanding as they nodded their head. Chris got up to follow me while Adams took his phone to call Agent Romano.

"I won't even ask how you figured it out" Chris said shaking his head as we walked to the interrogating room.

"Then you shouldn't" I said with a smile and opened the door to the interrogating room.

Agent Romano was already sitting there and I smiled as I took the seat opposite him, Chris stayed outside, watching us through the one-way mirror.

"Agent Romano, do you know why you are here?" I asked facing him with a little smile.

"No, I was called here without being informed" He said calmly and I smiled.

Agent Romano, taking the 10th position in the top 10 agents, is a normally cool and suave guy, he is someone that completes a mission while looking cool.

"Well, you remember the last time I interrogated you, right?" I asked as he nodded his head.

"Well, that's because all the crimes seemed to be committed by just one person. That person also planted an inside spy in this agency, you won't happen to know who the spy is, right?" I asked, looking at him with a warm smile.

"Sorry, I can't help you, I wish you luck though" He said calmly, not showing any change in his expression.

'But his feet betrayed him'

His feet were facing the door which meant he felt pressurized and wanted to leave this room.

"Oh! But you can help me. After all, you are the spy" I said calmly as his eyes flickered to the door for a split second before resting on me again.

"Are you trying to see if you can escape?" I asked amusedly as I twirled a device in my hand.

He looked at the device in my hands as he furrowed his brows.

"Are you wondering about this?" I asked gesturing to the device in my hand.

I didn't wait for him to answer as I clicked a button on the device. A voice sounded from it, specifically Agent Romano's voice.

"Sir, the gadgets has been stolen... Yes, I made sure they would be caught... Yes, the gadgets will all be duplicated before they are caught... Yes, no traces were left... Of course, I will be on standby... No, no one suspects me... Thank you sir... I have to go now sir, I will keep you updated... Bye sir"

"Hmm... What a lovely voice, don't you think?" I asked teasingly as his face paled.

"How did you get that?" He asked, shedding his calm farce.

"That isn't what I asked you, Agent Romano." I said with a scolding tone as he got up to escape.

Before he could take a step out of the room, some men came in and held him hostage.

"Tsk! Tsk! Tsk! I never told you to leave Romano. You haven't answered any of my questions anyway" I said in a teasing tone as he struggled against the hold of the men.

"You didn't think I would have guessed you would try to escape? I am not that forgetful." I said playfully as I moved towards him.

I stood in front of his panicking self with a calm gaze.

He was right to be panicked, he would be tortured and killed for what he did.

"Calm down, Romano. Just answer the questions and maybe your torture will be reduced a little" I said sympathetically as his eyes showed a bit of hope.

The tortures they use on traitors are so harsh that the traitors would try to kill themselves on several occasions which is why Romano was so hopeful because of my sentence.

"I will answer all your questions" He said after hesitating for a while.

"Good. Boys, let him go, he will sit normally as we discuss" I said, gesturing to the men that held him.

They released him and Romano sighed before sitting on the chair.

"Shall we begin afresh?" I asked calmly as he nodded.

"Let me start with this, I don't know who the mastermind is, he never revealed himself and always used a voice muffler, but he is definitely male because of how he talks and the decision he makes." He said and I nodded as I gestured for him to continue, making sure to record the conversation and write down the important things.

"Also, I don't know what the plan is about, he only told me what he wanted to steal and what I should do to make the mission more smooth. To be honest, I joined because of the benefits and rewards he presented, I am not that important to whatever plan he has" He concluded as he pursed his lips.

I furrowed my brows at his words and got up to leave.

"Thanks for your co-operation." I said before leaving.

The last thing I saw before leaving was the men grabbing Romano.

"So how was it?" Chris asked as I walked towards him.

"Not that helpful, Romano confessed but the mastermind was sly, he always muffled his voice so we don't really have anything to go by except for the fact that the mastermind is a guy" I said as Chris scowled.

"So we don't have much to go by?" He asked and I nodded.

"Tsk! Agent Romano was useless and couldn't stick to the right people" He said angrily before leaving.

I looked at Chris' back as he left and a glint flashed through my eyes.

'It seems I was wrong about him...'
