Temptation

"Move into the basement of the apartment block!" Clarkson yelled out to all his colleagues, who had immediately dropped what they were doing and headed towards that area.

The whole apartment building had been sealed with metal shutters, and the apartment building was fairly new and sturdy. They had been reported to this place that was hosting a demonic cult that did not have any members of the Black Heaven.

Without the Black Heaven's direct involvement, the power level of the cult would be at the bottom of the barrel. Even if it was a trap, they had brought a backup from the Light Church, Executioner Lucas. There was no danger at all that would harm them!

When Clarkson reached the basement on his own, there was a revolting stench that had already drifted out. Clarkson was wearing a gas mask, which filtered out all of the smell. If he had smelled the stench, he would possibly have been more prepared for the sight that greeted him.

"Oh my god... this is..." Clarkson had seen many brutal acts before in demonic cults since he had started working for the Light Church 9 years ago, but this was one of the more horrifying scenery he had seen in his career.

Hundreds of people littered the floor, while their whole body released an assortment of body waste. This was like a melting pot of death, with people ranging from men to children, and several people from different races also had joined the crowd. Not only that, there were some medium sized towers that was formed from piled corpses.

"Small cult?" This was more like a middle sized cult! How was it possible for a cult to gather this much people in the first place? Clarkson began to feel anger in his heart. This was why he had joined the Light Church, to eradicate scumbags that dared to sacrifice innocents to demons!

However, Clarkson could not do anything further, as he saw a giant beast that had a clean slash across its neck, along with a few criss cross marks left behind on its back. Executioner Lucas had already taken care of the giant fellow that was behind everything. Still, they had a secondary mission from the Light Church.

Apparently, there was still another figurehead cult leader that was here as well. Robert was a charming cult leader with a talent for deceit. However, he did not even know that the Light Church had already used some spies to gather information, or that he was being taken advantage of by the main leader, Brian.

Robert did not possess any combat skills at all and was even weaker than a chicken. Clarkson was trained in military combat techniques, and was fully armoured with the latest technology provided by the Church. One gang of robbers with poor marksmanship posed only the slightest amount of danger to him.

Clarkson took off his gas mask and turned on the thermal imager visor that was provided to him. A foul smell assaulted his nose, but he could bear it. All the bodies around him was still warm, and had to approach the piles of corpses if he wanted to differentiate a living body's warmth and a corpse's remaining warmth.

"Robert, a quick death will be your blessing! Your demon has already betrayed you and left you for dead! There is no point to your cat and mouse game here!" Clarkson projected his voice throughout the entire basement, with his voice echoing repeatedly.

"But you see, officer, I don't want to die." Clarkson had already released the safety lock the moment Metro spoke. He spun around and shot towards the direction the sound was from. No matter what plots that Robert was carrying out, it would all be obliterated by his trusty X2-K automatic rifle.

A torrent of bullets headed towards a corpse pile and shredded them into pieces, before embedding themselves onto the concrete wall. However, his reaction time was delayed by the distracting smell. Metro had already dodged beforehand, and had started to topple the towers of dead bodies he had prepared beforehand.

Even though Robert's body was weak, the Trained Body helped Metro to carry the dead bodies. His body was also quite tall, allowing him to construct towers up to 3 meters tall. The towers themselves were quite unstable due to the bodies being lubricated with liquids. With a small kick, they would fall.

"Where the hell is he?" With all the movement produced by the corpses falling, Clarkson's thermal imager was essentially useless. Not only that, the smell was suffocating him at this point. Out of habit, he took out his gas mask, which sealed his fate.

Before he could place it on his face, two fingers struck out like snakes, poking towards Clarkson's eyes and blinding him. He stumbled backwards, tripping over a corpse. As he rapidly blinked, he pulled on the trigger, firing the bullets of his XK-2 everywhere.

"AHHHHHHHHH!" Emboldened by his war cry, Clarkson clutched onto his gun with renewed strength, shooting from where he laid. He was confident that he could gun down Robert with this final bullet spray!

It was only when he felt a cold hand suddenly twist his arm then he realised that he had been completely wrong. His hand was forcefully pushed to one direction, before staying at the position. The pain exerted made Clarkson wheeze, but what really horrified him were the screams released by his teammates.

The XK-2 was too effective. The Light Church has not considered the fact that the guns would be turned against their operatives one day, since they had already put on sensors on the trigger to self destruct the guns if an unauthorised presence laid their hands on them.

Three people had died to the XK-2 before the rest of them wisely retreated to the top of the stairs. All of them were breathing hastily, as they were filled with anger. A routine mission had turned into a tragic loss for their team. Not only that, they were forced back by just one person.

"Yesssss...Why should you tolerate anyone? You want to kill him, don't you?" A whisper in the wind entered Roger's ear. He was the man that Clarkson had been talking to earlier, and he was the one who was most riled up about the situation.

"That damned Robert, he dared to take away my subordinates, he is doomed to die!" Roger's veins were slowly expanding, but he did not notice it. The demonic influence left behind in the building twisted his stubborn mind, and amplified the anger in his heart.

Roger's eyes started to dilate, as his fangs extended. The Abyss had already grabbed ahold of his heart, and was not letting go anytime soon. As the demon continued to push Roger further into the abyss, the rest of the Light Church's division was sweating heavily in their armour, thinking of a quick way to take out Robert without harming Clarkson.

Meanwhile, Clarkson was recovering from Metro's sudden ambush. Metro was still standing next to him, controlling the arm. With a fierce expression on his face, Clarkson broke free from Metro's control with all his strength, and turned the gun on Metro.

Click! Click! Clarkson rapidly pulled the trigger, but there were no bullets that were left in the magazine anymore. He had one more magazine on his belt, but he was hesitant upon seeing that Metro was looking at him.

Clarkson made up his mind. Throwing away his gun, he spread his legs apart, and raised his fists up, assuming a fighting posture. "Come on and fight me!" Clarkson shouted loud enough for his teammates to hear him. He wanted to tell them that they could come now!

What happened was contrary to Clarkson's expectations. Metro simply raised his legs and targeted his crotch, hitting that area with great strength. Clarkson had been caught unaware, but more importantly, where did everyone else go?

A moment later, a humanoid with dark brown fur poking out from every part of its body emerged. There was no exposed flesh at all, with any body features hidden under the fur that were as thick as steel bars.

On its fur were the dead bodies of two people, who was still holding onto their guns with distress on their faces. They had died so fast that there was no time to react at all. A slight tremor reverberated through the ground as he slowly lumbered towards their location.

"What the fuck! No no no no no!" Clarkson screamed out of primal fear for the being that had appeared. He could see a resemblance to a certain person in the monster's features. "Roger!"
