Cities Mean Death

The tank's engine roared alongside the all imposing sound of Zeds Car. The two friends were currently on their way to collect the family.

In preparation, the pair had gotten into military uniforms and practised their roles as military personal. They would use their superior position to take control of situations easily. Even in the later stages of the apocalypse the military still had some footing in the events of the world. Although they had slowly declined from power throughout it.

This time Zed would make sure that this family became strong enough to survive the family. It was his current and biggest mission. He made a promise to himself that he would carry this mission out to the best of his abilities.

The city in which the family would be living was Charlotte city. This city surprisingly survived pretty well throughout the apocalypse, even becoming the home to one of it's biggest gangs. Yes even in the apocalypse there was still gangs. And these gangs produced very strong fighters, many of which Zed had killed.

Since it was already getting late in the afternoon and the city was still another three whole hours away, Zed decided it would be best to make camp for the night and continue driving in the morning.

Zed pulled over and the tank which had been following him up until this point also pulled over.

Kagami opened the tank's hatch and poked his head out. "Oi Zed! What's wrong? Why'd we stop so suddenly?"

Zed got out from his car and walked up to the tank. "It's best to camp here for the night since zombies are slightly faster during the night. We can start moving once again in the morning, " Zed said and then walked back to his car.

"Ok got it. I guess we should get some sleep anyway since I'm already exhausted" Kagami said while getting back into his tank.

The two then proceeded to sleep until the next morning. The blackout ended at 12 pm and soon chaos filled the streets of almost every city, town and military base. Of course, some slept until the next day but they were the ones who mainly survived this initial craze.

....

Zed and Kagami woke up early, around 6 am. The two set up and set off towards the city which would by now be in chaos.

As the two vehicles roared down the highway they eventually came across many survivors of the chaos who were escaping from the city. However, Zed knew that people who did this would soon die. Evacuation in large groups during the early stages of the apocalypse was never a good idea since I single infected could cause mayhem amongst said people.

Zed and Kagami simply went off-road to avoid the road blockage of cars and people. Many stared in awe at the vehicles which were passing them. Some even cheered when they saw the large military tank driving towards their city. Perhaps it was in order to save their homes. Sadly for them, this wouldn't be the case.

...

In the city, people ran through the streets. Some killed the zombies while others were eaten alive. Screams, gunfire, explosions and the roars of the monsters was all that could be heard.

In the streets zombies hoarded around almost every turn. There was no chance for anyone to survive a grouping which these undead had formed.

Soon the entire city was overrun and instead of fighting, most decided to hide until it had cooled down a little.

The sun was now out fully and the gunfire had slowed down to the occasional bursts of shots. These most likely came from the cities police force attempting to inflict damage upon the undead hoards.

Of course, some people didn't hide and instead chose to help out in clearing the city. However, this group of people was in small amounts.

...

A group of people, a family, could be seen squatting in the door of a cafe. There was a young girl, a little boy and two adults. They had awoken in the middle of this mess and luckily survived due to the fact that they had stayed inside one of their family cafes.

"Mum, we need to get to the building across the street. If we don't, who knows how long we could be stuck here, " Said a young girl.

The girl looked to be around the age of 17 or 18 years of age. She could be called a beauty among beauties. This girl also happened to be the one who, with her families help, had saved Zed all those years ago.

"You're right Ellie, but look at all of the monsters out there, " replied a young woman who looked to be her mother.

While this conversation took place the girl's father stared out the cafe window. He was planning the fastest way across to the nearest building.

The cafe had been safe for a while but two hoards had passed their windows. The zombies which went past the cafe were beginning to crack the windows as they bumped into them. Sooner or later the windows would shatter and draw attention to the rest of a hoard. This, in turn, meant death for the family. The only plan for survival was to escape to the tall building in front of them and wait for helicopter rescue or the clearing of their city.

"We move now. Come on get up were going right this second, " the father whispered.

The man who had just been staring out the window had chosen now to move. It was the best time considering there were only five zombies on the street.

The family listened and followed the man. He led them outside the cafe and behind a car where they waited for a roaming zombie to pass.

There was complete silence and only distant gunshots could be heard. That was until the little boy tapped an empty water bottle with his foot. This was completely by accident, but that didn't matter to the zombies.

All of these undead freaks turned their head in an unnatural way which let out a crunch. The monsters began to drag themselves closer, with every step the zombies took the family became more and more tense.

Right as a zombie was about to come around the corner of the car it flicked its head in the opposite direction. Gunfire began to ring out. This was no police gunfire, it had to be the military with that many guns.

They were saved. The monsters began walking I. the direction of the gunshots and so the father quickly lead the family to the building. Along the way, he picked up a metal pole which had been left protruding out from a zombies head.

Since the father was in the military he was a little intrigued by the gunfire and had eventually concluded that the US army had made it's way to the city.

....

The family was not the only ones intrigued by the gunfire. At the entrance to the city were an interceptor and tank. These two beasts of the apocalypse sat with their engines roaring.

At once the black armoured car began speeding down the streets towards the sounds of the gunshots. This could be his chance to win over a group of soldiers to his cause. Perhaps he could use them in the future, and maybe they might just become loyal after being saved and told a few lies.
