The family stared at Zed with weary eyes, not even once looking away. This man was extremely dangerous, and they didn't know what exactly he wanted. It was possible that he would now do worse to the family than what that group of bandits had done to them.
Although Zed wore the appeal of a US soldier, they couldn't tell if he truly was one or not since not even the strongest of soldiers could slaughter so many people so easily. He also wore his uniform sloppily since he had his camo jacket unbuttoned and untucked. Because of this, one could also easily see his skin.
"What do you want from us?" asked the girl. She had done this so that her family wouldn't have to make the sacrifice.
"Hm? I simply saved you cause I owed someone a debt." Zed replied as he placed his sword over his shoulder.
What Zed said was true since he did owe someone a debt. However, unbeknownst to everyone but himself, that debt was owed to the people which he had just saved.
"I-I see. Well then thank you" the father said as he got up from the ground which he had been beaten on.
Zed rushed over to the man and helped him up. He put the man's arm over his shoulder and lifted him off the ground. This not only surprised the man, but also the family. How could such a small figure be so fast and strong at the same time? By no means was Zed skinny, he was actually just lean muscular. Basically a shredded body.
"I'll bring you back to my camp so that your wounds don't get infected, " Zed told the man as he moved towards the rooftop door.
The family followed Zed down to the bottom floor, leaving the leader of the bandits to die from bleeding out. When they arrived everyone could see the countless undead which had hoarded in the streets.
"Crap, that gunshot from earlier must have brought them all here" sighed the father.
Zed looked around as though thinking of a plan. In actuality, he already came up with one before even entering the building.
"I'll call in backup to help get you back to camp," Zed told the family as he placed the man in a chair.
After doing this, Zed took out a handheld radio and put it to his face. He turned it one and held down the button. "Oi Kagami, I need you to sort out a group to come to XXX.XX, XXX.XXX. It's the tallest building around the South-West zone."
Everyone waited in anticipation when finally ten seconds later someone replied. It was Kagami, "Yes sir, I'll send a group of five men and a tank your way."
Zed looked at the now relieved looks which sat on the family's faces. "See, we'll be fine. Soon my men will be here to pick you guys up. Until then let's introduce ourselves, shall we?"
Zed looked around the room and saw nobody was speaking and so he started, "Let me start. My name is Zed and I am what you could call a special sort soldier. I have lost all communications with my higher-ups and thus have decided to rescue and protect a group of survivors. In this group, there are men, women and children. The majority of men are all soldiers who have decided to work under me. I'm basically the person who will give you strength in this new world."
The father looked at him closely. Although he acted mature and even looked to be an adult, something still seemed off. He was in the special forces and not once had he heard of anything like Zed.
The father decided that it was best for him to introduce his entire family, "I am Nicholas Frane, a former US special forces. This is my wife Jenny, my son Neo and daughter Emily. We are very thankful for all of your help my friend."
Zed could see right through Nicholas. Nevertheless, he nodded his head, "Very nice to meet you guys. Since your ex-military im sure you're wondering why I don't seem like im in the military. Well, that's simple. I was recruited by the military as a contract killer for high-risk operations. Although I work for the US army I was never trained by them and I've only ever worked on my own."
These types of people weren't common and most didn't know about them, however, Nick had the opportunity to see one in action before. Although they couldn't match up to what they had seen from Zed, it could still be considered on a level of its own.
Before Nicholas could respond Zed continued, "Oh and just in case you were wondering, I wasn't this strong before all of this mess began. I've found that you become stronger through combat against the undead."
Nicholas looked at Zed in the eyes with a stern glare. "I see. That's quite unbelievable yet I still do believe you after seeing what you did to those pigs upstairs."
Zed nodded and checked his watch. It would soon be 8:30 am and he guessed that his men would be arriving soon. Zed walked towards the entrance to the building which they were currently staying in.
Before Zed could exit though, Jenny quietly screamed out to him, "What the hell are doing? You do realise that we'll get torn apart if you open that door?"
Zed looked back at them who's eyes were almost popping out of their heads and then looked back to the front door. He continued and opened the door.
Immediately the door slammed and blood sprayed upon the glass parts of the door. Looking through the glass they could only just see Zed. He was currently slaughtering countless undead with ease. This didn't surprise them all too much, however, they still had no clue as to why he had done this. Maybe his reinforcements would soon arrive to help him?
As though to confirm this theory, the explosion of a tank shell hitting a hoard of zombies could be heard. That was followed by gunshots.
As the family moved closer to the front door to see what was happening they all unconsciously stepped back as a tank smashed through the entrance.
The tanks hatch opened and a young soldier came out, "Quickly get in!"
