"I said, if a girl rejects a guy it's not her fault, it's her choice and you cannot blame her right?"
"Ya, you are correct. Maybe she did not like the guy." I said. He was referring to me. I can't believe that my father told this guy.
"Did I allow you to speak? Leave Ms Brown!", Chris ordered. He was not happy with my answer.
"Wait! I asked her so you cannot blame her. Ms Brown, have we met before? You look familiar." Weird, I thought. He could not recognise me. Then why did he act like a love-struck fool? I do not think that when I dressed up very dull and when I am compared to my present self, I look unrecognisable.
"Um, I do not think so Mr Wilson, though I must say I have heard a lot about you from my friends. You're very talented." I smiled at him. I remember how Lisa used to go on and on about Jason and his acting skills, I even heard it from Prunella as well, given the fact that she is deeply infatuated I doubt that she would say anything against him.
"Ms Brown, should I repeat myself?" Chris asked in a very threatening voice. He was ordering me to get out, that's for sure. Anyway, I did not plan to linger there any further. I nodded at Chris and turned to leave. As I approached the door, I could clearly hear Jason saying, "Grandfather ordered you to invest, now, do you dare to defy him?", I left the office and resumed work. I had to go through many files that day, though it was still my first day.
Meanwhile, there was a heated discussion in Chris's office. "What? Did grandfather ask me to do so? He would care about family honour more than me." Chris argued. He sat majestically on his chair, which now resembled a throne, while Jason stood across him with crossed hands like a loyal advisor. "Don't question his motives, just do it. Why do you mind more than me? I'm perfectly alright."
"Tsk tsk, fine. You lovesick fool, you must have begged grandfather. I will think about it, but I'm not making any promises." Chris finally agreed. When he says 'I'll think about it,' to his brother, it means he already agreed to it. He completely doted on his little brother, regardless of how old they were now. "Thanks! By the way, have I told you that I am going to a different country for the movie shooting next week?"
"No, you most certainly did not. What movie are you working on, anyway?" Chris was not up to date on his brother's professional affairs, so he had no idea. He was used to the fact that actors have to go to different locations for shootings. Sometimes he was envious of his younger brother since he did not have as many responsibilities as he had.
"Oh, it's a novel adaptation, it's about a young man who experiences a rebirth in the modern age, he was a proud duke in the past but he dies due to betrayal, now he must navigate through the modern world alongside a quirky upcoming actress whose home he takes shelter in. It's comedy bro, not the type that you'd be interested in." After giving a brief summary, Jason knew that his brother couldn't care less. He liked movies that were mostly sci-fi.
"I did not know you accepted a new role."
"Well, I intended to take a break and happily marry, but since she ran away, I realized I was too pushy, so I decided to give her some space. I'll become more famous and more worthy of her when she comes back." Jason flashed a bright smile which would make most of his female fans faint out of excitement. "I feel you are extremely shameless. You did not even meet her yet you fell in love." He pointed out a valid question.
"Bro, you do not know what love is so don't ask. There is a promise made between me and Amelia so you do not interfere, even our parents don't so please do keep it that way." Chris frowned at Jason's words, he wondered what secret was among them which he did not know, he was quite sure they never met each other before so what secret could be there? He wondered. After sometime Jason left since Chris had a lot of work to do.
Seeing Jason come out I 'accidentally' dropped my pen, so I bent down to pick it up, also I was away from Jason's line of sight. I understood that Jason could not recognise me, which was weird, but I decided to keep things that way, better to avoid him lest that I'd be caught. As the day went on Chris did everything possible to torture me, I wondered how he found time in his busy schedule for me. It did seem like he held a grudge against me. If you think I am exaggerating, then you're wrong. He left the coffee I served him completely untouched, so he complained about it being cold. Okay, his complaint sounds reasonable, so I heated the coffee and served it, he complained that I reheated the coffee instead of preparing it again. I patiently made another coffee and gave it to him, after taking a sip he dumped the coffee in the dustbin saying that it tasted disgusting. Following his annoying instructions, I made the coffee again, but he was in a meeting so I had to wait, unluckily the coffee got cold so I decided to reheat it without letting him know it. After he took a sip, he declared that he did not want to drink coffee, he wanted to drink green tea instead. I went to make green tea. The people over there gave me weird stares since this was about the fifth time I went there. Ignoring those irritating stares, I went and made green tea, I sighed to myself thinking why I had to make an enemy out of that petty guy.
I thought Lisa had a better life than me, and I couldn't be more right.
The great brown botch which Lisa made because of the black coffee turned to be a great style. The person whom the dress was designed for loved it. She thought it was Lisa's creativity, but in reality; it was a mistake. Apparently, the person who bought the design was a very influential figure in that city, so when she wore the design it became a big hit. Lisa thought she would be fired from her internship, Jaque almost did fire her because of the stain, he was looking for his successor and he did not want slackers but Lisa's luck was too stronger since the customer liked the design so much that she praised Lisa a lot which now made it impossible for him to fire Lisa, plus he also liked the little apprentice of his, she was a fast learner and had a lot of creativity and style. After the coffee incident, Lisa's name was widespread and everyone wanted to have her design their clothing. She was the hot new thing.
After I made the green tea, I put it aside, and took a long sip of lemonade while I sighed to myself this was going to be a very long day for sure, I thought. I took the green tea to him and he finally took a sip and nodded; I stared at him, thinking how calm he was after intentionally making me run back and forth multiple times.
"So, Ms Brown, I heard that man gave you his business card, and you threw it away?" He asked in a gentle yet interrogating tone, as he was amused at what I did. I wondered how he found out about this matter. I certainly did not tell anyone. Was it Lily?
"Yes, I did, seeing him disgusted me. You think I would work with him?" I answered back truthfully, honestly standing even next to him disgusted me after the weird stare he gave me.
"What if he was not disgusting? Would you go?"
"Ha ha! Mr Wilson, it seems you forgot I am bound by a contract, though he suggested he would pay for termination I refused him. So, let's leave the matter at that." I did not know why he was asking me, but I did not want to discuss it any further.
"Chris! Beatrice is here, and she is not leaving! What should I do?" Lily came barging in, I could remember the name Beatrice it was the name of a person who was blacklisted according to the list Lily gave me but something was off, Lily would have called security to take them away but since she is worried about her arrival I wondered if she was someone who cannot be offended.
"Let Ms Brown handle her. A challenge is very much needed for her. You cannot keep helping her."
What help? I thought, Lily did not help me at all today, all she did was flirting with other guys and suddenly showed up when that weird executive showed up. "But Chris, you know her attitude, it's Luna's first day. Sometimes even I cannot handle her."
"Well, then Ms Brown has to work hard this time, Ms Brown, make sure Beatrice does not kick up a fuss but remember to not offend her." Chris gave a warning with a kind smile. I do wonder what's the background of Beatrice, which made him worry so much. In my mind, I started searching for the name but I could not seem to find any influential person with that name, there was a Beatrice but she was a fifty-year-old and her husband used to be a Major in the army, sure enough she is not that person.
"I'll come with you," Lily assured me, though I did not feel the need for assurance. I had experience in dealing with many people. I wonder which category this Beatrice comes under. Threaten, manipulation, or sweet-talk was my strategy based on the character of a person. Without me even asking, Lily started the conversation. This time she gave me a lot of information on Beatrice. Beatrice was the only pampered daughter of Mildred, who was Chris' teacher, whom he respected a lot, his teacher got him through many dark times, his parents were very busy with the company and his brother was still young, he had no other person to talk to, his grandfather was a very strict man so he was quite afraid of him, Mildred became a mother figure and helped him. He was extremely grateful to Mildred, so no matter how much Beatrice acted up, he said nothing. He did not blame his parents because he knew how hard it was at that time during the cash crunch. "So, he is only bearing her for the sake of her mother." It became clear as to why he would bear such a person who is so pesky.
"Where is Chris? I demand to see him! He promised to take me to the movies today!" She started shouting like there's no one there. "Ms Beatrice, please leave. You do not have the clearance." The poor receptionist followed Beatrice all the way up here. "How dare you! Do you think I need clearance to see my would-be?" I did not know why, but I had the urge to laugh. On one hand, Chris detests her so much that he blacklisted her, and on the other hand she thinks she could marry him. Oh, my, what a scene! If only Chris was here to witness it.
I looked at the woman properly; She was wearing all expensive clothes. Considering the fact that her mother is the Dean of the top university, it would not surprise me to know that she's rich. The only thing that irked me was the amount of makeup rubbed on her skin, her winged eyeliner was too thick, her blush was dark as well, she paired it with a nude lipstick; the combination was very weird indeed. Maybe without the makeup she might have looked pretty. I looked at her again, carefully picking up details from her unrestrained behavior; she thought she owned Revolution. Then, with pleasure, I'll put her in her place.
