After a whole night thinking about what had happened, I don't know if I could ever forgive Chris. Veronica must feel terrible knowing that her parents are getting a divorce, I can't even imagine what she's feeling right now. I tried calling her but she didn't answer, maybe she found out about what happened with Chris and I.
I couldn't stop thinking that he chose her over me, he said that he loved me. As I was going down for some breakfast, Chris started calling me, I couldn't answer. I left my phone on the counter and I went to the bathroom and my brother Sam answered the phone as he saw Chris calling me. I went out of the bathroom and I saw Sam talking to someone through my phone, I knew he answered Chris, it's the only person that was calling me. I snatched my phone out of Sam's hand and saw Chris's name on the screen, I hung up and sat down. My brother Sam asked me what was going on.
-"Lily, what's going on? Why did Chris ask me to tell you to stop ignoring him?"
-"it's complicated Sam, you wouldn't understand." I answered him, hoping he would leave the situation alone. But he didn't.
-"Come on sis, just explain what happened and I I'll understand."
As I ignored him, he walked closer to me and started tickling me, I couldn't stop laughing. As I stopped him, I explained.
-"He's in a relationship with my friend Veronica, and he confessed his feelings to me two nights ago at the restaurant, he didn't tell me anything about him not being with someone. Happy?"
-"wait, so you're telling me that you didn't know about him dating Veronica Wilson?" he said as he starts laughing.
"ummm no, I haven't been in Boston in five years remember? I guess no one ever talks to me anymore." I said while looking at him fiercely.
He turns around and goes upstairs, not knowing why. He comes back down to the kitchen and brings his girlfriend with him.
-"please talk to her babe, she's impossible!"
She sits down awkwardly next to me, I smile.
-"I don't think we've met properly. I'm Lily." I say politely.
Laughing she says: "yeah I know, my name's Cara, it's nice to finally meet you Lily."
-"same. So, for how long have you and Sam been together?" I ask her.
-"four years now."
As she answered my question, I almost choke on my own food.
-"four years! I come he never spoke about you on the phone?" I ask trying to get to know my brother girlfriend.
-"he has never talked to you about me? That's nice to know."
We both laugh, I offered her some coffee after I stood up and went to make some. She then asked me about what was going on and if I needed a friend.
-"if you ever have to talk to someone you can always come to me, I've heard I'm a very good listener."
-"thanks but it's a bit complicated to explain."
-"nah, you can tell me. What's up?" She asked.
I poured her a cup of coffee and sat down, I took a sip of coffee and started to tell her everything, what happened with Chris, Veronica and her parents. It was painful telling her how the love of my life rejected me after making him choose over Veronica and me. Cara completely understood what was happening and gave me a pease of advice.
-"look Lily, I've never been in a situation like this, the only person I have ever dated is your brother. I think that right now you should go and support your friend, if I were her I would like that very much. And Chris should wait, he needs to come to you, don't answer his calls, make him come in person and try to let him explain what he has been going through too."
This advice Cara gave me, lightened me up. Veronica is in a lot of pain right now and she needs a friend with her. I thanked Cara and hugged her, I went upstairs and got dressed. I left the house leaving a message with Cara to tell my parents where I had gone, and letting them know that I will make in time for tonight's dinner party.
I grabbed my dad's truck and went to Veronicas house. I got there and saw her crying on the front porch, alone, needing a shoulder to
cry on too. She saw me and ran towards me and hugged me as hard as she could.
-"my parents got divorced today Lily. I didn't know what else to do."
As I tried to calm her down, Chris started to call me, so I turned of my phone.
Veronica told me everything that happened between her parents, they were the most beautiful couple in Boston, she didn't want them to get separated. Chris started calling Veronica, so I knew I had to leave soon, before something happened. I told her it was time for me to leave, I promised my parents to be on time for our dinner tonight.
Before I left I gave her a hug and as I walked away, I waved her goodbye.
I arrived at time at my parents house, my mom was waiting for me at the door steps smiling and waving, I felt warm and happy, finally I had stopped thinking about Chris for the first time all day. I got out of the car and ran to her and hugged her, we went inside and saw my brother making some of his special drinks and all of my brother's friends at the dinner table looking at me like if I was their bride. I greeted everyone in the table and my brother handed me a berry's daiquiri, it tasted amazing. We were having an amazing time, my dad started with his good jokes and my brother looking at Cara in love. In that moment I thought about Chris, I wanted to call but I needed to stick to Cara's advice and let him come to me.
I heard someone knocking, I answered the door and it was him, Chris, standing there with flowers and a face I can't describe.
