Uriel

Uriel was flying in the skies, and he had to clear his head. His anger was boiling at what Lucian said.

How was it possible that Christine had not been. . .baptised. Had fate played a cruel joke on them? Why did he kiss her?

She was not Gadrial. Well, not yet anyway. They did not know when her memories would awaken. Uriel personally hoped it would be soon. . .he missed her.

He had to talk with Gabriel. No, Gabriel would not converse with him. They hadn't talked in two hundred years, and he betrayed them.

Uriel knew that betrayal ran deep. It would take a while before anyone would attempt to trust him again.

Uriel descended into a nearby graveyard and walked through the gates. It was eerie - this was where they buried most of their fallen brethren. Uriel saw a few spirits rising from the graves.

"Brothers."

The spirits turned their attention to him.

"Voice of the Creator. This is the first time you have visited in a long time."

Uriel drew back his wings. "I am sorry that I haven't been around."

"We guess. . .you are here to see her? Her spirit never rises in this place."

"That is because she reincarnates if she dies."

"So that is why we haven't felt the Angel of War."

"Yes..."

The spirits were muttering between them. Uriel knew what they were talking about.

"Before you say anything, it was the Creator's will."

They stopped talking, staring at Uriel now. Uriel inhaled. "She broke a rule of heaven - this is her punishment."

"This is what you call punishment? We can not even enter the kingdom of heaven, and this is the absolute punishment."

Uriel stared at the spirits in confusion. "What do you mean you can not enter the kingdom?"

"Just what we said, the Voice of the Creator."

The spirits disappeared from Uriel's sight, leaving him with questions. Uriel walked past the graves to the end, where a tomb was looming.

Uriel opened the door to the tomb. It was dark inside, and he closed the door behind him. Uriel didn't mind the darkness. He was used to it.

He touched the first tomb engraving. It was the first time Gadrial was born as a human and died to be reincarnated over and over.

Each time Uriel came to the tomb, it was to engrave her legacy. He would come here to find the strength to go on, to see her again.

"Gadrial..."

Uriel whispered her name over and over.

Uriel sat down in the tomb, looked around at her gravings, and memorised her mortal names.

Uriel felt a tear roll down his cheek. Why couldn't he have been brave and confess his feelings to Gadrial?

Was he intimidated by Lucian? Did Lucian deserve her? Or was it since he was loyal to the Creator?

So many thoughts were going through his mind that he didn't know how to calm himself down.

Uriel closed his eyes and began to sing.

*"When your day is long

And the night

The night is yours alone

When you're sure you've had enough

Of this life

Well hang on

Don't let yourself go

'Cause everybody cries

And everybody hurts sometimes

Sometimes everything is wrong

Now it's time to sing along

When your day is night alone (hold on)

(Hold on) if you feel like letting go (hold on)

If you think you've had too much

Of this life

Well, hang on

'Cause everybody hurts

Take comfort in your friends

Everybody hurts

Don't throw your hand

Oh, no

Don't throw your hand

If you feel like you're alone

No, no, no, you're not alone

If you're on your own

In this life

The days and nights are long

When you think you've had too much

Of this life

To hang on

Well, everybody hurts sometimes

Everybody cries

And everybody hurts sometimes

And everybody hurts sometimes

So, hold on, hold on

Hold on, hold on

Hold on, hold on

Hold on, hold on

Everybody hurts

You are not alone"*

Uriel smiled a little, friends? He had no friends, and he had to keep himself from kissing Gadrial. Since he became a neutral Angel, he couldn't control his feelings or the lust he felt towards Gadrial.

Ever since he had met her for the first time in heaven, even the first time after he left his heavenly brothers - he had tried to fight his emotions. Oh, the Creator knew. . .how he had tried.

Somehow this felt different than it was before. Uriel could almost feel Gadrial's soul reaching for him. Uriel opened his eyes with new revelation, and he stood up.

If Lucian was willing to fight for her, then sure as hell freezes over, he would fight for her too.

Uriel took a last look around the tomb. "Thank you for giving me my strength again, Gadrial. this time I will make sure you will not die again."

Uriel walked out of the tomb. One of the spirits was waiting for him.

"Did you find what you were seeking, the Voice of the Creator?"

"I have."

"If you walk beside the side you have chosen, you will not be able to draw power from the neutral grounds again."

Uriel gave him a nod. "I understand, but this is my choice."

"Go in peace, the voice of the Creator."

Uriel didn't look back, he walked out of the graveyard, and the eerieness disappeared. The sun felt brighter to Uriel.

Uriel spread his wings. His wings were black with a hint of blue glow, and he took to the sky. It was time to pay Gabriel a visit, with a long-overdue conversation.

Uriel flew towards the hospital, landing on the roof. He walked to the door going down, and he hid his wings.

Uriel dismissed the eyes that were following him, he found the floor he was looking for, and he stopped at the reception.

"I am looking for Dr Gabriel."

The receptionist looked up, and she froze a little. Uriel restrained himself to not rolling his eyes. It seemed every mortal woman found him irresistible. Well. . .Christine was the exception, and she seemed immune to his immortal chams.

"He is with a patient." She was ogling him. "He'll be back in ten minutes."

Uriel gave her a nod. "I'll wait here in the waiting area."

"Of course, may I get you a coffee?"

"I only drink tea, thank you."

Uriel sat down in a chair. He noticed that the place was empty, and he felt his worries were easing to nothingness. His head was clearing. Maybe they should still get Christine baptised, as he mentioned to Lucian.

But if Christine had no faith - would that still affect her contract?
