Reminiscence of a birthday

When a boy is 13 years old, dangerous things can happen. What everyone is afraid of and/or everyone is waiting for is love. Logan celebrated his 14th birthday in a few days and had never been in love before. Danny was head over heels in love with a different girl every week, for now Evelyn Benninghem had personified the boy's dream woman. She was 2 years older than the boys and every time she walked down the hallway Danny almost fell out of the bench to see her.

"How do you know you're in love?" Logan asked once.

„Idiot!" Danny snapped. „You don't 'know' love, you just feel it!"

Logan had no idea what Danny's wisdom meant. Maybe the other boy didn't know either, he just saw it on the internet and has been following the word of every influencer like a Bible.

„Evelyn isn't even that pretty." Logan declared which to Danny responded with a killer look.

„Are you kidding me?"

„I think a nicer and kinder person suits you." Logan continued.

"And who would that person be, you?"

Logan blushed furiously.

„No way!" He stammered. Danny looked at the boy questioningly for a while, then returned to the original subject.

„Believe me, Evelyn is The One."

Logan said nothing. He simply could not get rid of the tightness in his chest.

"Do you want to come over to us with your brother tomorrow?" Danny finally ended the silence. „We could celebrate together." Logan's eyes lit up.

„Of course!"

„Great, Mom's baking a cake."

Logan couldn't imagine what it was like when a boy had a mom. If his brother, Everest, did not have enough courage, Logan would have been stuck in an orphanage. He had no memory of their parents. Maybe it was better that way, their lack of presence hurt less. Their father died of a heart attack before Logan was born. Their mother, weakened by sorrow, passed away at childbirth. They visited many foster homes, in one of them they met Isaac. When Logan was 8 and his brother was 18, they got out of the horrible fostercare system. The painful whole of loving parents, of course, always gaped in their hearts. Danny's mom kind of their mother too. They spent every birthday together. Logan's biggest fear was that one day a girl like Evelyn Benninghem would take this privilege away from him, so when Danny invited them this year, he felt lighter.

The joint celebration created a good mood. Dan's mom, Mariah, baked a huge cake, and his father, Louis, decorated the entire apartment with the McKenzie siblings.

"Logan, Danny, come here a little!" Everest called his brother and friend into the living room.

"Logan, this is your gift from me and the Mckenzie family." Everest handed Logan a small bag. „Happy Birthday to You!" He hugged his little brother happily.

„Open it!" Danny bounced around the birthday boy excitedly.

Logan carefully lifted an envelope from the bag. He unfolded it and pulled out a sheet of paper. As he read the text, his eyes widened.

„It's a concert ticket!"

„What concert?" Danny wondered.

„Many of them!" Logan pressed the paper into his friend's face. „A two-week tour of different parts of the country!"

„ Oh my God, this is incredible!" He gasped.

„Danny, Look! Our favorite band is also performing."

„Then take a lot of pictures! Especially of the drummer!"

„Why won't you help him?" Mariah handed him the same envelope.

„This can not be." Dan and Logan sighed at the same time. They looked at each other and then burst into cheers.

„We are going together! My God!"

The two boys happily hugged each other. Louis pulled out a camera and captured the moment. The man wrapped his arms around Mariah's waist proudly, then looked around the room. He caught Everest's grateful gaze, he nodded in response. He knew they both felt the same love. His son's happiness was worth all the sacrifices.
