broken

adjective

(of a person) having given up all hope; despairing.

"I spy with my little eye, something that's… white"

"The walls?"

"Nope!" a cheeky grin followed.

"The mattresses?"

"Nope!" his smile grew wider.

Lucky's brows furrowed. She made a questioning look. "What could it be then?"

"Raven's skin tone!""

"Asshole," Raven muttered from across the room. Celia cupping her face, giggling. Bella snickered and Harry had a stupid large grin on his face. Darcy leaned her head back. She was wondering how the others were doing.

Did anyone else fall prey to the monster that was out there- or so it seemed to be from Lucky's descriptions. Darcy was worried, she crossed her arms and her eyes lingered to the window.

"Guys," she spoke up. Everyone turning to her. "Why don't we go out and see who we can find? If we're able to work together, we might be able to work together enough to get out?"

"Where would we go?" Bella asked.

"Back home!" Celia cried out. Raven shook his head.

"It'd be about impossible to. There's no way we'd be able to drive that far, none of us have very much experience with driving a regular car, let alone a bus. Besides, I'm sure we'd all be perfectly comfortable driving down those steep and thin roads up in the mountains"

"Raven's right," Lucky murmured, the carousel in her mind winding back up again, thinking. "Remember at the final pit-stop before we got here, the road-side café and gas station combo? There were photos of a town, not far from here! It's not far down the mountain and I swear the road's gotta be easier!"

"Well, if we're gonna do this, we need to get it down sooner or later. Because more snow will come, there's no doubt about it" Harry crossed his arms, Raven nodded in agreement.

"Okay, Harry, Spartan and I will head out back to the boy's cabin. You girls shuffle through the rooms here" Raven ordered. Everyone nodded their heads.

The bed was moved, and the door opened. Lucky felt the nerves creep her spine as she stepped out. Immediately crossing the hall, she knocked on the door and it opened. Ella's cold nether eyes looked back. Arms crossed.

"We're gonna work together-"

"I know" she replied curtly. Lucky felt herself force a smile, because Ella- in fact- did not know. She just said to sound smart, "The girls and I are ready, anything to get outta here" she commented. Walking out, the Sins following. Darcy, Bella, Celia and Lucky stalked away. They were called "the Sins" for a reason. Replicated and named after the Seven Deadly Sins. They were the snarkiest, evillest, and cunningest girls in the year level.

They were intimidating bitches. They barely ever actually spoke to anyone, but you were always scared that they might. That for some stupid reason, they'd find you worth their time and they'd make your life an actual hell.

Lucky gulped. People really misunderstood how scary teenage girls were, they didn't fight. They sliced you with something far worse, dignity and emotions. Something that could tear you down so far you wanted to lock yourself away from the world and never come out.

They found Lucky to be an easy target when she first moved, but when Spartan came, they backed off. She was never sure why but they always seemed easier on her and Spartan than everyone else. Lucky could only assume one of them may have had a crush on him. But Lucky was unsure.

How could witches so evil have something as insignificant as a crush?

It was a strange world.

Reality morphed when it came to the food chain of a high school. Some of them were "eco-friendly". As in all students just dealt with each other and got on with it. But others, others looked for the "apex". The leader. The best of the best. Unfortunately, that's what Lucky got thrown into, headfirst. She left her eco school to come to the apex.

It took some time to learn how different things really were and how to survive. Lucky watched as Ella banged on a door.

"OI! Sammie, Laurence!"

The door opened, reluctantly, and a bobbed sand grey haired female stood in the door, lake blue eyes frowning at the visitor.

"It's, "Lauren"" she mumbled aggressively. Ella rolled her eyes. "Tell Sophia and Alice to hurry their asses up, Rabbit Foot's got something"

Ah, there it was. The affectionate nickname the Sin's had given Lucky. She didn't understand how they found out about her nickname, she tried to keep it quiet with her friends, but she supposed things never stayed a secret for long in high school. Lauren rolled her eyes, speaking something behind the door. The other girls came out. Okay, that just left the last four.

Francine, Eleanor, Emmie and Bea. Lucky knocked on the door, it slowly swung open. Groaning. Lucky's brows furrowed. The smell that hit her was vomit inducing. She turned away and gagged.

"What are you doing?" Sophia asked, running to Lucky's side. Darcy approached; the door swung open.

"Oh, God…" Darcy's voice quivered, the colour red stained her vision and she couldn't turn away.

Keeley and Suzie walked over, taking one quick peep into the room before screaming blood murder.

"Shut up!" Abi and Ivy shouted. The two screams immediately ceased. Lucky looked forward; her eyes filled with worry.

She could see the terrified eyes of Bea. Emmie hanging off the top off the top bunk and her throat completely destroyed. Eleanor had multiple limbs missing and Lucky could only assume that the pile of meat in the far corner, near the door of the bathroom, was Francine.

If the sight wasn't horrendous enough, the smell made it ten times worse. There were footsteps and the boys were at the door.

"What happened!?" Raven asked in a panic. Lucky's eyes were watering and Sparty was at her side, hugging her. Soothing her softly. He looked forward, studying the scene.

"Raven…" he muttered. Raven looked to Sparty, then his eyes wandered into the room.

"My god…" he breathed out, "Everyone listen up! We've got your phones in our room, get them and go back to your rooms. Grab what you can and bring your bags to the bus. We're gonna get out of here!"

Everyone nodded before wandering off. Everyone on edge, everyone tensed and everyone wondering if they were going to be next. Darcy zipped up her duffel bag, it was large and bright white. Bella was gathering whatever she could to pack into her suitcase, she sighed as she closed the lid. She looked to Celia and Lucky. The two were quiet, silently packing and filling their backpacks. Bella slid on hers.

"Guys c'mon. We should be the first one's there…" Bella whispered. Lucky nodded and opened the door, walking out. Lucky's mind was blank… like the eyes of that monster. As she walked past the door, her eyes looked back into the room. She wasn't extremely close with the girls in the room, but they were always nice enough to her and she didn't think anyone in this camp deserved this.

To suffer to this and be forced into this.

She felt so trapped and afraid.

A guinea pig in a small cage with a metal saw approaching her head. But she had no where to go, all she could do is beg and plead for it to stop and turn the other way. Just like horses on a carousel. She was helpless, stuck and always running.

But never escaping.

Lucky sat down on her suitcase, watching the ground. Why was she so calm? That monster was still out there, but something told her it had gone. It lingered away, there was no food anymore so why would it stay around? Or maybe it was the fact that morning had come. Maybe it was nocturnal and went back to its den during the day?

Maybe….

Lucky looked up to the sound of wheels and talking. A majority of the class were here now. All waiting… Spartan came over in the horizon.

"Where's the rest?" Bella asked, arms crossed. Her eyes looking to the woods. Not fully trusting anywhere. This was a dumb idea. They were basically walking out with dressing covering their bodies. They may as well lay down on a plate and ask the monster to eat them quickly.

"He's coming. He's just gotta get the key to the bus"

"Oh, and we've gotta wait out here until he's done. Cool, let's go lay down in the middle of the fucking forest while we're at it!?" Bella screamed. Spartan held his hands up in defence, hiding behind Lucky. Who watched him blankly, she frowned.

"Really?"

"Yep, save me"

"Seriously!?"

"Yes, save me!"

Lucky groaned. The morning darkness had seeped out and light had flooded the area. It was freezing still, but at least you could see five feet in front of you. Or so that's what Lucky tried to think of it.

Raven crept into the office, Harry behind him with two bags. "Why couldn't we drop them off first?" Harry asked, complaining, Raven sighed.

"You want your ear chewed off by Bella, twice"

"N-Nnnooo thank you!" Harry replied. Raven rummaged through the office. He looked up, grabbing a key and swinging it around his fingers.

"I got the key, take the bags to the bus. I'll met you there. I need to get some gas for the bus" Raven said, Harry nodded and walked away.

"Wait… wouldn't there be some in the bus?"

"Yeah, but it's good to stock up" Raven replied. He had no idea if Harry was talking about the tank itself or if there were jerries with it inside the bus. Raven just left his answer at that. Raven swiftly descended a flight of stairs. Walking down a hallway of doors… he exited the hall. Looking down the bitumen road. He looked forward and saw a roller door.

There.

He skipped forward. Running to the door, his feet tapping lightly against the road. Raven looked down at the lock. It was thin and barely attached. Raven looked around, pursing his lips. He ran up the cement stairs next to the roller door. The glass door led to a spare room, where they held different exercises like trust activities and other shit.

He pulled on the door and it opened. He scoffed. So, they locked the roller door but not this one? Right. He shook his head entering, the door close behind him. He looked around, his eyes narrowing. Okay, he needed to find something heavy enough to break the lock.

Sooner the better.

He went searching through the desks and drawers. Then he turned and saw something, a wooden door. He raised a brow and shrugged his shoulders, opening the door he saw a large metal wrench.

Perfect.

As he bent down the grab the wrench, he noticed something. Crimson red.

Blood….

His eyes widened in shock and he gulped. He grabbed the wrench and turned around, he saw small droplets of the stuff. Then he heard a large bang. Raven leapt back. Backing away. He bolted out of the room. He could hear footsteps, slow and dragged out. As if someone were limping. Raven called out.

"Hello!?"

No reply. Raven bolted to the glass door, flying through it. He slammed the door shut. Running down the stairs. Hurry, hurry, hurry! He ran to the door sending the wrench crashing down. The lock popped open. He chucked it away and opened the door. Blood hit his face, but he found what he was looking for. Two red jerries filled with gasoline. He went to take a step forward when he felt a hand on his shoulder. He screamed and spun around, Harry and Spartan watching him in curiosity. Raven furrowed his brows.

"What?" he asked grumpily. Folding his arms. Harry raised a brow.

"You good dude?"

"Yeah, fine. J-Just help me with these" he said back. Spartan grabbed one and Harry the other. Raven held his wrench tightly, then he felt something grab his shoulder. "Not funny guys" he growled. But that's when he noticed Spartan and Harry in front of him. Looking back with widened fear filled eyes. Raven's own hues shrunk, pupil to the dot. He slowly turned his head and saw the paled breaking face.

Flesh tearing from the bones. Raven shouted and swung his wrench. The once living man fell to the floor, gurgling noise escaping him. His hand shot out to grab Raven's leg, but the male leapt away. The jumpsuit the man was wearing, reminded Raven of a plumber or mechanic. Even a janitor. Raven backed away closing the door and putting the broken lock back down.

"GO!" Raven shouted, Harry and Spartan began running as fast they could. The jerries slowing their movements.

They descended multiple steps and began rushing through darkened halls. Shoes hitting the cement with such force that the earth would probably crack beneath them. Raven breathed out heavily, rushed breaths as he turned his head.

He couldn't even comprehend what that was.

It was dead… or, should've been dead. As they sped past the cabin area, Raven looked to the side. He saw something move. A person, hair bloodied and without an arm. Holy shit.

"Go, go! Don't stop running fucking run!" Raven shouted ahead; Spartan turned up the hill. Almost tripping over his big feet, Harry following. Raven was next. Raven opened the bag compartment to the bus, "Everyone, get your fucking bags in, now! This is not a joke. There are things down there that are going to kill us!"

Most people with the kind of relationship they had would turn and laugh. But right now, everyone just did as they were told. They threw their bags in without second thought, Spartan and Harry lifting the jerries into it. Raven looked; they had another spare two. Okay, if they ever were able to get fuel that'd come in handy.

Raven unlocked the doors, swinging them open. Everyone thundered up the stairs. Lucky staying behind with Bella and Celia. Their friendship group consisted of six. If they had an extra member, they would've been the Sins ultimate rival. But now was different. Raven pushed everyone on, he ran up the stairs. Putting the key into the ignition. He put the clutch in and turned the key. The bus sprang to life, he sighed. Sweet. He closed the doors, foot on the break. He looked across the board.

He didn't have much experience with this… it'd be fine. How hard could it be? Surely driving a bus would be more familiar than the reality they were living right now.
