trek
noun
a long arduous journey, especially one made on foot.
Lucky gulped as she walked. Harry, Spartan and Raven in front. None of the other girls would go, so Lucky went. Bella and Celia making sure to keep and eye on the Sins. Lucky gripped her arms and she felt her legs shake beneath her as she walked.
She still felt shaken from the dream, but she didn't dare tell anyone. She remained quiet, keeping her mouth shut and letting silence fall over her. She didn't want to speak up and she wouldn't speak up.
The world seemed so lost. The three boys in front of her held a jerry can each, stumbling through the overgrowth. They tried to keep in a straight line. Right now, Lucky feared this would be her end.
They'd get lost, get chased by either the masked men, or the ghouls that were plaguing the world. And she really didn't want to see the former of her options. She believed she'd rather deal with the latter of her two options.
She thought back to her dream.
It felt so real, she swore it was real for a second. She swore she felt the hands on her body, the warmth of the fire. She cursed out, shaking her head. She needed to stop it. She'd send herself insane.
She mumbled to herself, sighing. A branch swung back, and she ducked, barely missing it. She stood up and stared at it with wide eyes. Oh, frick. She turned on her heel and followed after the guys quicker than before. She felt uncomfortable. Like there were things looming over her spine and pulling her forward, puppet strings pulling her along. Forcing her to dance to their routine.
She hated the feeling. She wanted to pull herself away and run in the other direction. But she didn't want to leave the guys alone. So, she remained, and she kept walking. Spartan turned his head and noticed her face. He began walking slower, letting Lucky catch up.
"You're not okay," he mumbled softly. Lucky shook her head.
"No…"
"Another dream?"
"Yeah…"
"Was it with the same people?"
"No…"
"What happened?"
"…" Lucky remained silent, Spartan looked up and watched the two other boys.
"You can tell me (Your name), I promise" Spartan's voice was as warm as his aura. Lucky felt her throat tighten; her eyes turned to his green puppy dog eyes. She bit her lower lip before sighing.
"It was about those three masked men"
"What about them?"
"I-I… don't know"
Spartan's arm wrapped around her shoulder and brought her in close. Lucky felt her anxiety slowly drift down her spine, leaving her core. She sucked in a breath.
"Feeling better, Lucky Charm?"
"Yeah… sure" she smiled. Spartan pursed his lips before speaking.
"I know you hate getting into really personal stuff, like dreams and family issues. And I know it's easy to say something than to actually do it. But, please, don't feel like your alone. You're my friend and I love you for it!"
"Eh, that's pretty clichéd and sappy Sparty"
"Yeeeeaah, but it's because I wove you!"
"Wove you to!" Lucky rolled her eyes playfully.
They broke through a barrier of small trees, Lucky remaining quiet. There was a gas station and it looked as empty and desolate as the rest of the world they'd seen. Had the infection really destroyed the world that quickly?
Lucky didn't want to believe it.
She closed her eyes, shutting them tightly and wanting to run away. Sink away into the darkness. Raven and Harry went first, Spartan next and Lucky reluctantly following. Lucky gulped drily as they walked across the dried grass. It crunched beneath her shoes and Lucky hugged her arms. Closing her eyes, she felt so small.
Raven and Harry crouched down next to a pump grabbing a nozzle and pushing it into one of the jerry's. Nothing dared come out though, Raven cursed.
"Sparty, check the other one" Spartan nodded his head and fled to the other pump, grabbing its nozzle and shoving it in. He pressed down and gas came through.
"This one works!"
"Right, we just need to go to the furthest one" Raven mumbled getting up, he turned to Lucky, empty backpack on her back. "Lucky, why don't you try and ransack the store of any supplies?"
Lucky nodded her head and bolted across the concrete. The glass doors didn't open upon her arrival and Lucky looked down at a large rock marking a garden. She pursed her lips before looking at the door.
Hopefully, she wouldn't get arrested for this. She bent down grabbing a large rock and throwing it at the door. The glass smashed, and Lucky turned away from the shards. She looked at the broken door, reluctantly stepping through.
Lucky's eyes looked over the shelves and then to the register. She pursed her lips and began grabbing whatever she could. It seemed that there were mainly treats, but Lucky wanted to get some stuff that wouldn't go off.
She found lots of bottled water, which was good, she untwisted a cap and began drinking, trying to satisfy her niggling thirst. Lucky chugged the entire water bottle she threw it in the bin. Not like it'd get taken out any time soon, but it was better than making a larger mess. She looked through the different freezers and racks. Grabbing packets of chips and other things.
She wasn't really thinking about what she was grabbing, in all honesty, she was mainly watching the outside world. Her friends mainly and if anything would come out after them. Lucky remained silent as she finished her small ransack. That was that. She had nuts, chips, and treats of all sorts.
She ran out the door and rushed over to her friends. They had finished the filling the jerry cans, and they began moving. They were able to move freer through the track. Lucky's nerves growing, something told her they were going to get lost. She was going to get lost.
She knew it, deep down.
The subconscious in her screamed at her to run out of the woods and take the road. But Raven had stated they'd stay close, but the road could very well take an even longer time to get to the bus.
They'd just stick to the path they had created and pray for the best. As they went, Lucky felt something touch her arm and screamed. She swore she saw something there. She spun around eyeing the forests.
She mumbled something before following after her friends in a panicked rush. She gripped onto Sparty and they kept walking. She mumbled inconsistencies under her breath as they kept walking. Lucky felt her nerves grow on edge. Something snapped behind them and with one swift order from Raven they ran.
Lucky leapt over a log, she heard something scratch after them. Lucky bolted around a tree and found herself on a different path to her friends. She stared at them and she tried to leap through the foliage to get to them, only to have something grip her harshly and pull her back into the dark.
Lucky felt herself scream out, but it was cut short by a hand slamming over her mouth. She wriggled around, trying to get free. The person behind her grunted and the two fell to the ground slowly.
"H-Hey, hey! Shshshshshshsh" the person shushed lowly. She could recognise the voice and she found herself freezing at his words. He pulled her back further into the darkness, quietly waiting and watching. Lucky could hear footsteps come closer and closer and then she saw it.
A large creature. Its mouth unhinged and it was losing the hair on top of its head. A service station employee uniform ripped and shredded on its "body", if Lucky could even call it that. She could see every rib poking out, the way its stomach was sucked in at an abnormal degree. Its waists twisted the wrong way and how its left knee was completely shredded, along with the missing right hand.
It limped away. Making a horrid gurgling noise as it went, Lucky felt her breathing quicken as the man shifted, holding her closely. He breathed out steadily. His eyes looked down at the girl in his arms.
"I'm going to loosen my hold on you, okay? I'm nicer than the others I'd like to think, but I will hurt you if you run or make a noise. Got it?"
Lucky nodded her head. The man loosened his grip and his hand slinked down to his phone, pulling it out, he mumbled a few things under his breath before pocketing it. Wait, was it even working?
Lucky assumed not, considering that no one's phone was working back on the bus. But she didn't question it. The man sighed.
"Right, well, love. It seems that destiny has us keep meeting"
Lucky felt herself roll her eyes at this. She turned her head and saw the white mask. So simple, yet it was unsettling. Lucky turned her head away and tried to get up. Only for the arms to come and shove her back.
Lucky felt her breathing pick up again and she started struggling the man growling lowly.
"Hey, hey, hey. Shh! Keep still, you'll attract it back here" he mumbled softly, running his hands through her hair. Lucky began freezing at his actions, the hell was he doing to her!? She bit the inside of her cheek. She wanted to get away, to run away.
She felt the arm around her waist tighten. She remained silent and the man continued to stroke through her hair. His breathing was far calmer than her own and Lucky was sure her blood was freezing from the fear at this point.
"Eeeasy, steady. There you go" he mumbled softly. She was sure this wasn't his actual personality, more so a façade to try and keep her calm. She could guess he wasn't dumb and was only trying to keep Lucky calm and quiet to save his own skin.
Footsteps echoed through the air and Lucky pushed herself back into the man, watching the opening with fear. Two legs came into view, a person ducked down. The goggled man's eyes connected with Lucky's before he chuckled.
"G-Good to see you agai-in L-Little Rabbit!"
"Toby don't scare her further" the man behind Lucky grumbled a reply. The goggled man pouted.
"A-Aaaww but it's s-so fun!" he whined. The white masked man rolled his eyes.
"I don't want her screaming and bringing that thing back here"
"J-Just throw h-her at it!"
Lucky felt her eyes widen and her heartbeat grew in her chest. The man behind her growled out.
"Shut your trap"
The white-masked man slowly stood up, dragging Lucky with him. He shushed her gently as he slowly loosened his arms and began to exit the whole. Lucky's eyes were wide, and she spooked at every sound.
She was ready to bolt.
A heavy grip came in contact with her wrist, she looked down and the man's hand was crunching the bones in her wrist. She breathed out steadily. Whimpering as he began dragging her through the forest, Lucky's eyes grew wide and she started to struggle. Trying to get free. The man grunted.
"Don't do that!" he hissed softly. She continued to try and twist free, whimpering as she went. She grabbed her leg and kicked into his side, as hard as she could. His hand let go and she went to bolt, but two arms grabbed her.
"S-Stop! B-Before I fucking f-feed you to the m-monster out here!" Lucky froze at the harsh voice, her breathing quick. "Y-Your luc-cky we-we're even letting you c-come with us"
"Toby," the man growled lowly and Toby rolled his eyes.
"M-Masky, being g-gentle only get-ts so far. Sometimes throwing some fear in gets e-em to be q-quiet"
"But they also have no trust in you and will run away as soon as they can"
"L-Like she just tried to do?"
Lucky felt the arms around her waist loosen as an argument broke out between the two men. Lucky slowly slid to the floor and turned her head, watching the two men argue. She remained still, letting the argument erupt and grow harsher and harsher. Both men were slapped in the back of the head. The hooded man standing there with a woman next to him. She noticed Lucky and looked down the female staring at her with wide eyes.
She could run now.
Screw it, she was running. Lucky bolted up and began sprinting. Footsteps erupting after her. Lucky closed her eyes tightly as she bolted. Letting short breaths fly out, she leapt over a log. She heard the footsteps grow closer to her, she strained her eyes to try and see the path her friends had taken. She slipped forward and leapt over a small gully.
She pushed bushes and sticks out of her way. Leaping over whatever rock she could see. Lucky felt herself slowing down as her lung couldn't pump the needed oxygen. She felt the air leaving her body as she kept going. She shook her head, trying to keep herself going.
Lucky ducked under a tree branch and sticks snapped under her feet. She could see a small dirt trail leading ahead of her. Her huffs echoed in her ears as she ran, her backpack smacking against her back. She bolted out of the thin barrier of foliage. She saw the bus still sitting there, a worried Spartan looking out to the world. He locked eyes with you and immediately smiled in relief. Until he saw the men and woman behind you, and he bolted onto the bus.
You sprung through the doors and the bus began to drive forward, a man coming to get on. Only to receive Lucky's snow boot to the gut. He let go and the bus slowly picked up speed.
"Raven, you might wanna go faster!" Spartan growled out, Suzie screamed, and she was immediately told to shut up by everyone. Darcy at Lucky's side pulling the female back up the stairs and the bus's doors closed.
"I'm trying, but this thing can pick up as much speed as a snail" Raven mumbled under his breath.
