Why Were You Not With Me?

Woo-Jin hurriedly switched on the flashlight in his phone and flashed it towards Da-Jung. "Are you okay?"

He saw her give a nod and squint her eyes to the strong ray of light falling on her. This time, Woo-Jin didn't hesitate and stepped a little close to Da-Jung. He lowered down his light and rested his phone to the left corner of the elevator. "Don't worry! I have called for emergency. They will hurry over here. Just take deep breaths and calm down."

He spoke to her while trying to maintain a little distance with her. He wanted to hug her and comfort her, but he also didn't wanted to take advantage of this situation.

Da-Jung again nodded and moved close to Woo-Jin. She had never experienced this kind of situation in her life. She had seen these scenes in movies or soap operas but had never for once experienced it in her life.

And today, when it happened, Da-Jung was really scared. She could feel the sweat beads forming on her forehead. If not for Woo-Jin, she would have already collapsed on the floor.

Seeing him close to her trying to keep her calm, Da-Jung became teary-eyed. Had Woo-Jin been there when she was pregnant, maybe… things wouldn't have fallen apart and she also wouldn't have lost their child.

Tears started to fall from her eyes and all Da-Jung could do was embrace Woo-Jin by his waist. She rested her head on his chest and cried.

"Da-Jung? Are you…okay?" Woo-Jin was taken aback by her hug and he controlled himself to not hug her back. He heard her sobbing and he pushed her to an arm's length to have a look at her.

Seeing her face with tears, Woo-Jin was really surprised. He couldn't make out the reason for what she was crying for, whether it was her child or the fact that the elevator was not working and she was stuck with him.

It hurt him to pieces and he could only say her to calm down.

"Just calm down, Da-Jung! The emergency is on it's way. Don't cry!" He held her face and began to wipe her eyes when Da-Jung caught his hand.

"Why were you not with me like this when I needed you the most, Oppa?"

The word 'Oppa' hit Woo-Jin hard and that was when he looked in her eyes which depicted how much she was hurt. As he noticed that look on her face, Woo-Jin's heart clenched and he couldn't even open his mouth to speak.

His chest hurt like anything.

"I…"

"Why did you not stay with me when I was pregnant? Atleast, you would have come visit my father then I would have told you that I was pregnant…"

Da-Jung shook her head as she thought about how many times she had contacted him and he never picked up her call. The way he was comforting her now, she wanted him to do the same when she was pregnant. Maybe the child would have come out healthy and also would have grown up into a four year old by now.

"If you couldn't do that, you could have atleast picked up my calls? Why didn't you do that?"

Thinking of what all she went through then at the time of her pregnancy, Da-Jung caught the speechless Woo-Jin by his collar and shook him.

"Why, Oppa? Did you never even once liked me? The words you said then when my father asked you for a divorce, were they actually true, Woo-Jin Oppa?"

She began to hit him on his chest as hardly as she could but it was all just futile. Woo-Jin didn't budge and Da-Jung sat down on her knees crying.

"Maybe if you would have picked up my calls, our child would have been with us!"

Da-Jung spoke almost like a whisper and cried while punching on the elevator floor. "I don't know why you dislike me so much, Oppa! I just don't know what did I do wrong to make you hate me this much…"

She continued punching until Woo-Jin squatted down beside her and stopped her from doing so. It hurt to see her like this and he instinctively pulled her in a hug.

"Please stop hurting yourself, Da-Jung! It wasn't your fault… it was mine. So, just stop hurting yourself!"

Woo-Jin held her hands to stop her from hurting herself further. When Da-Jung calmed down a little and showed him her face, Woo-Jin sighed and held her face in his hands. "I'm sorry! I'm really sorry you had to go through all that, Da-Jung!"

He touched his forehead with hers and rubbed her cheeks. As tears escaped his eyes, too, Woo-Jin bit his lip and controlled himself from crying out loud. "I'm sorry for leaving you alone, Da-Jung. Really sorry!"

Something in his heart told him to move closer and kiss her on her lips but Woo-Jin decided against it.

The lights of the elevator turned back on, and the doors opened. Woo-Jin quicky wiped his tears and stood up. He stretched out his hand for her to take. Seeing two guards run towards them, Da-Jung wiped her tears and stood up while holding Woo-Jin's hand. Because she had squatted for a whie, her legs were numb, and she found it hard to stand straight.

Woo-Jin rested his hand on her waist to support her and the two guards came inside. As one of the guards stretched his hand to hold Da-Jung, he saw his boss glare which he never did and order them "Get the elevator checked! I don't want this to happen again!" He was no longer the guy who was crying and consoling Da-Jung inside the elevator.

He began to step out of the elevator while supporting her to walk but when she pushed him away, he removed his hand from her waist and stepped a few steps away from her. He was no longer the guy who was crying and consoling Da-Jung inside the elevator.

As he began following her to the outside, Da-Jung noticed the people around who were looking at them and giving their awkward gossipy attention. She quickly stopped, turned around, bowed down her head and said "I will go from here, CEO Yang! Thank you very much for your help!"

Woo-Jin also noticed all the co-workers attention and he too stopped. He shouted after glaring at them "Is there some show going on over here? WHY ARE YOU ALL NOT WORKING???"

To his immediate angry yell, everyone dispersed back to their places and started working. Woo-Jin exited his building in the hope that he would see Da-Jung but he saw her stepping inside the taxi.

"I'm sorry!" He mumbled and stared at her until the taxi went far far away. However, something in his mind told him to follow her and he got inside his car and began to follow her.
