Getting Stronger

After that horrifying feast of monstrosity, I walked back to my room holding my stomach as the experience was traumatic and disgusting. Where was the Pork? Where are the chickens? Does this world have normal food in it?

I climbed my bed and lied down as I looked outside from the window as the moon hung up in the sky as I recalled all the hardships I've been through. I guess that part of my life is over. I close my eyes as the darkness embraced me once again.

I slept well and woke up as the sun was strongly shining high in the sky. It was the second day of me here. My first goal was to find a way to get to level 5. It was clear I had to defeat and kill monsters to gain exp but looking at the size of those cooked in the dining hall. The monsters in this world were not to be underestimated.

I washed and took a change of new clothes as I pushed the door open after I was all done and was greeted outside by Benedict.

"Young Lord, Breakfast is served."

"Ahhh, I think I'm going to skip on that."

"But his highness said to take care of you."

"Benedict, I'm not hungry!"

I wanted to evade this so-called breakfast. It was just full of unidentified monsters that I don't know of. Sheesh. Give me a break.

"Benedict, there is something that I am in need of help."

"What is it, Young Lord?"

"Help me train."

"Train? For?"

"To kill monsters."

"But Young Lord, you don't even know how to wield a sword or use magic!"

"Ahhh. I guess not."

I gave an awkward laugh and smile.

"Go to Knight Willy, He will teach you about the way of the sword."

"What about magic?"

"Magic is a difficult thing to use as some people do not have even the potential to practice it. So, there are a few who are able to teach it. The House possesses the element of wind but it has not seen for quite a long time due to the diluting of the bloodline."

"I guess I have to go to Sir Willy then."

"Yes, that would be great."

I've used the sword in my past life but due to the mechanics of the game when using a skill my actions become automatic and my body would move on its own to perform the skill. Here, I can't replicate my feats and I will have to start over again and learn it and do it manually.

Benedict and I arrived at the barracks where Sir Willy was standing directing and training a few squires. It was certainly their morning routine.

"Benedict, Young Lord, Good Morning, Is there something I could do for you?"

"The Young Lord would like to learn the way of the sword."

"That is, surprising."

I was a little confused by his remarks. Did that mean I didn't practice sword fighting with my previous self? What did this guy even do in the first place?

"I want to learn how to use the sword."

I said with conviction as Sir Willy would see it as proof of my dedication to learn the sword.

"Young Lord, there are a few basic stances when using the sword, Each stance depends on how to use the sword. In the future, your preference will influence how you fight but for now, watch me as I strike the practice wood stake."

Sir Willy did a stance and slashed at the wooden stake.

"That was a basic attack called a Slash. It's your turn. I want you to imitate what I just did."

Sir Willy gave me a spare sword as he grabs one from the weapon rack.

Ding.

[Weapon Obtained: Training Sword, Attk: 1-4, STR requirement: 0]

I did what he told me and a sudden notification rang in my ears.

Ding.

[New skill Obtained: Slash]

[Has the ability to proc the bleeding effect. Damage is X+1+50%STR]

What? The starting damage of this skill is low? I guess I have to level it first before I start using it in actual battle.

"Young Lord, there is a wooden stake over there. You can practice on that first and get back to me when you're done. I need you to attack it by using slash 30 times."

Ding.

[Side Quest: Slash the wooden stake for 30 times and receive exp and a reward after completing it."

Oh! You can activate hidden quests like this? Nice! Feels like a game through and through.

"I will do it right away, Sir Willy."

Benedict looked at me with joy as this master of his was starting to learn the sword. He sat on the side as he looked at me walking towards the unoccupied wooden stakes.

I postured my self and got ready with my stance. I raised my sword high enough getting ready to do Slash. I focused my eyes and looked at the wooden stake. As I did a quick step forward coupling my movements with my arms being brought down with the sword in my hands. I felt a hard resistance when the sword collided with the wooden stake as another notification rang in my head.

Ding.

[Slash Lv. 1 1 skill exp. obtained, need 29 more to level up.]

A smile suddenly formed in my face as I struck the wooden stake like a madman. Other people currently on the training ground looked at me with interest as the Young Lord would not do this in the past.

"Hyaaaah!"

"Haaaah!"

Ding.

[Slash has leveled up to 2. Damage is X+5+50%STR.]

What? It only improved that much? I guess I have to practice a bit more before making it really stronger.

But how do I raise my level? I didn't get any experience from hacking at it like a madman. I looked at the panel and saw that my stamina dropped by 30 points. I guess using skills consumes stamina. I was getting and getting more familiar on how the system works. It would be better to understand it first before making moves that would endanger me.

Sir Willy saw that I was done and he neared me then congratulated me.

"Well done, Young Lord."

He smiled seeing that I was sweating and was really putting an effort into it. I thought that maybe in the past Sir Willy tried teaching me but I wasn't too interested in it.

"You may keep the sword as a memento."

Ding.

[You have completed the quest and have been given 10 exp.]

[Level Up!]

[Your level has been raised to level 2.]

[4 Free Attribute points have been awarded.]

That was somehow expected. Doing quests should net me quite a few exp. but I don't know-how and who will give me a quest next. Grinding for levels is very hard in this world.

I'll have to save this attribute points first. It might be handy to allocate it when the situation arrives in the future.

I saw that my level had gone up by 1 on the stat panel and also noticing my stamina recovering. I guess I have to practice slash a bit more before stopping and maybe I could trigger a hidden reward just by slashing this target practice.
