Thirty Three

The first phase of the plan was getting into the prison without raising any sort of alarms. Nara and I found some barrels by the "back door" of the prison and used them to knock the guards out. George and Joan, however, used brute strength to knock some other guards out and stole their uniforms. The second phase of the plan, finding the general, had to be done with the utmost care to avoid suspicion, so we split up.

I stuck with George as we explored the prison until we heard a few guards walking by. George tried to hide me behind him, but I remembered Merlin's spell and hid him behind me hoping and praying that the spell was still in effect. The guards saw me and asked what I was doing, so I pretended to be deaf and used sign language to speak to them. They must've felt uncomfortable with me "not being able to talk" to them, because they left soon after.

George and I both let out a huge sigh of relief, right before I was pulled back into the hallway where I was covering him. I turned around and saw Joan and Nara behind us and a scared George. Nara told us that she had found out where she was being held and took us to her cell. We had to knock out some more guards when we got there, and when we found her, George stepped forward and said his name was Lily.

She asked him who he was, and he said that he was a friend. He got her to confirm our conspiracies about Paul working with Zephyr to bring down the royal family, and we even got her to hold the card. We held our breath as we waited for the card to stop glowing, but it didn't. She wasn't the person we were looking for, but we had bigger problems. The guards knew something was wrong.

General Iris saw that we were in trouble and led us through the escape tunnel she had been making. We made our way out to the street and ran as arrows were shot at us. We dove into an alley and managed to make our way back to the inn. Once we were back there, we filled everyone in and Merlin asked where we put the card. I had picked up and put it in my pocket. When I took it out to show them, it had stopped glowing.
