Part Seven

Eden: Paradise Lost

Part Seven

Kris looks at the destroyed camper as he intently studies it from the passenger side of one of the commendered Jeeps Lance's group took. John's headless corpse still draped over the front as some Walkers were reaching and trying to grab at his body as they couldn't reach it from the front end of the torn up camper. Lance pats Kris on the shoulder as Kris looks away and just nods.

Kris: Nothing we can do.

Lance: Perhaps you should drive to get us through the checkpoint.

Kris: Yeah.

Kris gets out and pulls his .50 out as he fires and kills all the surrounding zombies that were around the destroyed camper as the loud shots rang out. Lance comes around and watches as Kris holsters his gun and goes around and gets into the drivers side of the Jeep as everyone watches the destroyed camper leave their sight as they begin back towards EDEN.

The Square

Brianna and her crew were roaming about as Makayla huffs as she stops for a moment and lights up a joint.

Mak: What the hell are we doing here?

Brianna: We're going to the primes.

Evelyn: Why?

Brianna: People always have jobs for us. You can find most of them from people in Prime's, plus, we need a place to bunker down, and we can afford it.

Mandy: Us? Moving into a Prime?

Brianna: I'm not gonna stay in fool's landing longer than I need too, and besides, us mercenaries need a little pampering.

Amy: Now I can live with that.

The girls continue on uninterpreted.

In an apartment building

Lyndsey sits looking out her window as Amber is asleep, Lily coming into the room as she looks at her friend as the moon is high.

Lily: You're still awake?

Lyndsey: Oh, yes...sorry.

Lily: It's okay, hun.

Lily comes and sits beside Lyndsey.

Lily: What's wrong?

Lyndsey: I just...I don't know, have this bad feeling.

Lily: About what?

Lyndsey: Everything. Me, you, Amber... Miles. Just everything. I just can't seem to sleep because of that.

Lyndsey tears up and begins to sob as Lily comforts her as she runs her back as Lyndsey sobs silently.

Lily: It's okay, Lyndsey, everything's fine.

Lily's face however didn't seem to show the confidence in her words.

Elsewhere, in Fools Landing

The 23rd unload their gear as Kris turns to Lance as they had all arrived safely back into EDEN at an outpost.

Lance: We better hurry on before anyone catches on who we are. We need to sort the data out and get it decoded.

Kris: Watch your asses, all of you, stay low till we can formulate a plan.

Terry: We'll be fine.

Lance: Kris...

Kris looks at Lance as who looks very somber.

Lance: I haven't forgotten what we did to stay here in EDEN...

Kris: Maybe you should.

Lance: We can just act like it never happened...we...

Kris: I'm not doing this right here, right now with you. It's over! it happened, and the best any of us can do is move on!

Kris angrily storms off but stops as he calls back

Kris: Find me when you have something.

With that he continues on and out of sight as Lance huffs and shakes his head as he begins to head off as Terry looks at him and comes up as the other silently follows behind.

Terry: Boss...

Lance; Not now. Leave it be, Terry.

Terry: Okay, sir.

The group travels in total silence.

Kris walks into the outpost main hall as Shane, Nick, Ajax, Mary and Jared were sitting around a monitor as TY and General Marcus were on screen.

TY: Speak up, Shane, we don't have all night.

Shane: I'm not saying a goddamn thing until I know this line is secure.

The General noticed Kris as Kris nods at him acknowledging his presence as the General nods back.

General: I assure you the line is secure. Shane what is this about?

Shane: We have evidence that President Geer was conducting non militarized sanctioned testing on zombies, and have evidence also to support that certain carrier with a specific blood type, Type O, can become a special kind of thought retaining and speaking zombie.

TY: How can that be? Impossible

Nick: It's not, sir. Witnessed by all of us.

General: Where is this evidence?

Kris: Being decoded right now as we speak by a third party.

General: A third party?

Kris: Their specialist is capable of decoding the data much faster, plus if the president catches wind on what we know , we will all be under strict and imminent danger.

TY: General, they can't be serious...

Shane: Mcbrair, you're out of line!

General: Enough!

The general's calm demeanor stopped anything from escalating, The General looking upon everyone's stoic faces.

General: You all back and support this claim?

Ajax: We all saw enough sir to find what we know to be true.

Mary: the worse thing is that even though this was the president's little dirty secret, we still have no idea what is going on with a Finch and his party.

General: I'm inclined to believe you all, but I need the solid evidence before I can act and before you can as well. give me the evidence once it's been decoded. I'll take it from there accordingly.

TY: How long do we have to wait for this data?

Kris: Not sure, give or take a few days, maybe.

General: Contact me once you have it, and keep this to yourself, all of you. We do not need things getting out of hand that are within our control.

Shane: We understand, sir.

General: Until then, this discussion is over.

The feed dies and Jared turns the TV off.

Jared: That was fucking pointless, he might as well of just called us morons.

Ajax: With not axtual evidence to give him all he can do is wait, same as us. he didn't get to where he's at by jumping to conclusions irrationally.

Mary: But he has to give us at least the benefit of a doubt right?

Kris: It doesn't matter. He'll know what we know in the next few days. Till then everybody just lay low, spend some time away from here. Me and Shane will cover the report to the president.

Shane: ETA is 30 minutes on that, by the way.

Kris; I expect all of you gone by then. 23rd, dismissed.

The other head off and leave as Nick sticks around as he leans against a wall.

Nick: Something bad is coming our way, isn't it?

Kris: Before, back when I was younger I'd just say no flatly. Haven City changed me and I learned trust myself and my gut more then just blindly following orders. sometimes instinct, and your feelings can tell you all you need to know. Yes, Nick... something is coming. And I feel utterly powerless to do anything about it right now other than just to wait.

The three men stand around and say nothing as they contemplate what awaits their uncertain future.
