A Much Needed Rest (Part 2)

All Might was frozen in place. He was trying to comprehend what he had just heard. Shigaraki, the leader of the League of Villains and most wanted man in America, was his teacher's grandson? It couldn't be true, could it? "...You're kidding…" All for One laughed. "You can't even begin to understand what's truly going on in this world! You thought you were a hero?! You were so proud when you were beating him up!" All Might looked down at the floor. He hadn't known. But if he had known, would he have done anything different? All Might felt despair wash over him as he stood up. All for One lost his smile. "Leaving so soon, Toshinori?" All Might left without responding to the villain.

Naomasa, who had been a good friend of All Might for nearly a decade, walked alongside the aforementioned retired hero. "Are you doing alright?" All Might stared straight ahead. "I'm fine." Naomasa shook his head. "No, you're not." "Naomasa, you're a brilliant detective, but you're no psychologist." "It doesn't take a detective or a psychologist to know you're shaken up." All Might sighed. "...Yes, I'm shaken up. I'm also relieved." The detective was confused. "Relieved?" "It may be selfish to say, but I'm glad I'm retired. Unfortunately, the task of taking down Shigaraki and the League of Villains falls to the next in line." Naomasa sighed. "Then it's up to Endeavor." All Might shook his head. "As powerful as he is, he won't be able to stop the League. That task will fall to Chris." Naomasa has been a good friend of All Might for nearly a decade, and was well aware of One for All. "Are you sure he's up to the task?" All Might smiled. "Of course. He still has a long road ahead of him, but I have complete faith that he'll be the one to restore peace to this country. He won't be alone either. Jason has proven that he can keep pace with Chris. If Chris fails alone, then the two together will be more than enough to stop the League." The former hero lost his smile. "However… only one of them can become the next Symbol of Peace…"

The next day, a boat sped across the water, disturbing the once still lake. "Woohoo!" Chris shouted as he stood in the front of the boat. Kirishima was driving the boat incredibly fast. Jason and Shoto sat in the back of the boat, trying to make sure their cooler didn't fall out. Momo kept a hand on her sun hat, trying to make sure it didn't fly away again. Kirishima slowed down the boat until they were still in the middle of the lake. Mina opened up the cooler and grabbed a sandwich. Kirishima looked over at her. "We just ate breakfast." Mina looked over at him, still chewing the first bite of her sandwich. "Yea. An hour ago." Jason stood on the back of the boat and fell into the water. He resurfaced a few seconds later. Shoto immediately joined him. Chris jumped off of the front of the boat and cannonballed into the water, splashing Kirishima and Mina. Momo giggled. "Having fun?" Kirishima ran a hand through his hair, also smiling. "Yea. I'm going to go join them." Kirishima ran to the back of the boat and jumped into the water, landing right next to Jason and Shoto.

Mina and Momo hung out on the boat. "So, Mina, when are you going to ask the question?" Mina swallowed her food. "What?" Momo sipped her coffee. "You know what I mean." "No, I don't." Momo looked directly into Mina's eyes. "When are you and Kirishima getting together?" Mina looked off the side of the boat in a panic. Luckily for her, Kirishima was far enough away to not have heard. Mina whispered to Momo. "Keep your voice down." Momo didn't lower her voice. "It's clear you two like each other. Jason and Shoto are together. Chris and I are together. Now it's your turn." Mina sighed sadly. "...It has nothing to do with us liking each other or not…" Momo lost her smile and tilted her head in confusion. Mina looked up at her. "You see how hard Kirishima is trying to become a hero. Not just any hero, but to eventually become one of the best heroes ever." Mina looked down at her sandwich, still in her hands. "...He doesn't need me distracting him from his goal…" Momo sealed the top of her thermos. "You can support someone in many ways. Look at me, for instance. I know I'll never be able to keep up with Chris as far as being a hero, but I'm still going to support him the best I can." Mina looked out into the water to see Kirishima messing around with the others. She sighed. "...Maybe…"

Two weeks had gone by quickly, and it was their final night in Lake Tahoe. Chris slipped out of his tent. He had seen Jason walk down to the lake earlier. Jason was drinking some water out of one of their last water bottles. Chris sat on the rock next to his best friend. "How are you holding up?" Jason smiled. "Can't sleep." They sat in silence before Chris piped up again. "School starts up again next month. We'll be second year students." Jason nodded. "We'll be working with pro heroes. We'll be doing real hero work. It's almost too good to be true." Jason looked over at his friend. "Still going to the Night Eye Agency?" Chris nodded and looked around to check for eavesdroppers before whispering to Jason. "All Might told me that Night Eye knows about One for All, so I thought who else would be better to try and learn from? He was even All Might's side kick back in the day." Jason nodded. "Sounds like a man with a lot of experience. I guess I'm going with you." Chris looked over in confusion. "Weren't you going to try and apply to the Endeavor Agency?" Jason laughed a little bit. "I only wanted to go so I could spend time with Shoto, but I feel like her dad wouldn't let us work together. Besides, someone needs to watch your back." Chris looked down at the ground. After a few minutes, Chris looked up at the open lake. "I've made up my mind." Jason looked over as Chris continued. "Should the worst ever happen to me… I want you to take One for All…" Jason nearly choked on his water before whispering. "Are you crazy? Why would you think like that?" "I've made up my mind and All Might approves. If something happens to me, you're the only one who's able to take the mantle of Symbol of Peace." Jason sighed and nodded, accepting his friend's wish. "If the worst happens, I'll take One for All. You better not die on me though." Chris laughed. "I don't plan on dying anytime soon."
