CHAPTER 26: Togon is Cornered

"Hey, pretty boy," someone hollered from behind as Togon was walking down the school corridor in search of Gabe.

Togon halted and turned. He noticed a tall, lean adolescent with a long fringe and headphones around his neck. He was leaning against the lockers, his arms crossed, and staring Togon down. Behind him were two others, looking equally threatening.

"Are you talking to me?" Togon asked quizzically.

"Who else could I be talking to then?" He gestured to the empty corridor.

"My name is Togon."

"Whatever, pretty boy." The guy began walking towards Togon intimidatingly, his footsteps thudding slowly across the hard, polished floor of the corridor.

"What do you want?" Togon asked nervously, stumbling backwards.

"Nothing in particular. It's just especially entertaining to see you get skittish." He replied, smirking.

Togon backed against the wall. He looked left and right to see if there was anyone he could call for help, but the corridor was empty except for the four of them.

"W-Why are you doing this? I don't know you," Togon stammered, his legs getting weak.

"I don't know you either. Now don't you have any courage? Why are you so scared? Are you going to wet your pants like a little boy and cry for Mama?" He towered above Togon menacingly.

At the mention of his mother, a burst of anger shot through Togon, giving him the courage to retaliate. He straightened his back and stared the scumbag in the eye. "What gives you the right to talk to me in this way?"

His tormentor stared right back, opening his mouth to give another mean comment when Togon suddenly shoved him aside and ran down the corridor in the opposite direction.

The other two boys tried to grab him but they both missed.

Footsteps thudded after him. His tormentors were giving chase.

What did he do? Why are these bullies picking on him?

As Togon ran around the corner, he suddenly came face to face with Gabe, but before he crashed onto her, Max darted forward and Togon stumbled into Max's sturdy body instead.

"Togon? Why are you running?" Gabe asked.

She got her answer immediately. The infamous school bully, Kash, charged into view and grabbed Togon's collar.

"Stop it." Max ordered.

Kash looked up and saw the five well built, towering bodyguards, and released Togon's collar, shocked. The other two of his sidekicks caught up and skidded to a stop behind Kash.

"Please leave." Max stepped in front of Togon and Gabe.

Kash backed away, bumping into his sidekicks, and together, they hurried away, shooting glares at Togon.

As soon as they were out of sight, Gabe turned to Togon. "See? This is why I said you shouldn't go to school. Fancy getting into trouble with the school's biggest menace on your first day!"

"But I didn't do anything! I don't know why he was picking on me!" Togon cried, aggrieved.

Just then, the bell chimed, signaling the end of lunch break.

Gabe turned on her heels and stalked off in the direction of the classroom.

Ivan turned to Togon, "Don't worry, she won't stay angry for long." He then went after Gabe and the rest of the bodyguards.

Togon hurried after them quickly.
