Samuel wakes up inside the woods. he notices that it is already the sunset. he spend a whole day in the woods. he suspects what is to happen. he looks at his wounded leg. there is some blood still coming out of his leg.
the wound is so grotesque that it may need to be cut off to save the rest of his leg. Samuel feels a lot of pain. the pain isn't as brutal as it was. it is probable that they drugged him to ease the pain. he feels so weak for all the blood lost.
Samuel isn't going to apologize, nor beg for forgiveness. he knows there is nothing to do, nor to say. there is nothing to save him of the punishment for his acts. he is in the middle of a place where no one will ever find him.
Rig looks at him with the gaze of a ferocious beast waiting to bite his head off. Samuel trembles in fear to notice the difference in between a man like Rig and him. Samuel is not even the half of man that his brother used to be.
"please forgive me I am a sinner. I had lost my ways. but if you allow me to go back to the path of the righteous man. then I would be eternally thankful."
"what are you even talking about? you never had a soul, nor is these the time to beg. no one fucks with my peace. any last words?"
Samuel tries to stand up. but he can't. he falls on top of the broken bone. he can feel that horrible inhuman pain. tear fall from his eyes. he tries to play it cool. but there is nothing left of him. his dignity is the last thing left to offer.
"you bastard. I will fuck on your families grave, if you let me walk away now. I will fuck the dead bodies of every single member of your family. even your dog if you have one. you think this is over just because I am the one on his knees. but no, you can't be more wrong. I am playing games in here. I will fucking eat your eyeballs. then I will turn your head into a decoration for my wall."
"don't bite your tongue kid. had you ever read any fairy tale? no? you haven't, now let me explain something essential about life. it is needed to be learn from fairy tales. one in specific. if you had read 'red riding hood' you would learn. the most important thing about life..."
"what?" Samuel's broken voice interrupts.
"shut up and listen. out there are little kids in red hoods like you, but also there are big bad wolfs like me. but that is not the lesson, no. the real lesson is that if you see a big bad wolf, like me. you run away from him and you seek the hunter. but no matter what, you never go in search of the wolf."
"Why?" Samuel's broken voice interrupts once more.
"because once in the Big Bad Wolf's territory, you would get eaten. and there would be no one to save you. now, I will tell you a little secret. I saw a hunter out there in search of wolfs. but sadly you are not him. you aren't close enough to be the hunter. the big bad wolf is getting tired and hungry. which means that it is dinner time boy."
Samuel yields and screams in pain. Rig cuts off Samuel's tongue. Martin is taking pictures of everything while Rig drags Samuel to the top of a hill. the walk is slow. there are crows flying around of them. Samuel swallows saliva mixed with blood.
Rig throws Samuel's tongue. it is eaten by two crows. the crows keep following them. they look at Samuel as a source of nutrition. on the eyes of the crows it is clear that Samuel is the deer. and Rig is the lion.
they finally reach the peek of the hill. Rig forces Samuel to look at the bottom of the hill. there are some large rocks at the bottom. Samuel looks at the sky, the sky is red and orange on bright tones. the sky is so wonderful. some tears fall from Samuel's eyes.
Samuel knows that there is no turning back now. Rig asks if there are any last words. Samuel makes sounds. Rig pushes him off the cliff. Samuel falls to his bloody death. Rig looks at Martin with a smile.
"I haven't had any breakfast. what do you say? if we go for some? maybe we will stop at one of those fast food franchises for today."
Martin likes that idea. he looks at a crow that sits on Rig's left shoulder. the rest of the crows either go to peck on Samuel's body. or they just leave. Martin isn't one to believe on omens or harbingers. he only knew that the crow could see Rig's greatness.
"oh thanks sir. it would be my pleasure to eat at your side sir. if it is okay, I would like to pay this time. let me pay my respects sir."
"you better not regret that later. talking about regret, I had already forgotten about that little lamb. couldn't he just live a quiet life? now he dies with tears and regret. I hope he wasn't expecting me to feel any guilt? guilt me? that is a good joke."
they walk towards Martin's car. then they leave together. Martin asks Rig if he wants to listen to any music on the road. or if he prefers silence. Rig asks him to put his favorite Wednesday's podcast. it is nothing great. but it is of Rig's liking.
Martin appreciates and adores his idol. but little by little he is losing respect for Rig. he is just another human. he isn't killing, nor punishing as many sinners as he used to do. a part of Martin feels irritation and rage. he smiles at Rig.
.....
in the meantime.
Detective Brandon Williams is in the morgue. he is looking at the corpses of all those whom got kill at the diner. one detective tells him that there is someone looking for him. the Detective leaves.
the Detective looks at Sidney. she has been waiting for him. he smiles at her. he asks her if it is possible for them to talk in private about what happened in the diner. she accepts with so much sorrow on her eyes. they go to a coffee shop.
in there they seat on a table outside of the place. the detective asks her if she had ever met any of those criminals before. she tells him that she didn't knew about their job. the detective keeps asking questions. she answers them all.
Sidney tries to be honest. she doesn't want to have any issues with the law. especially not with Detective Brandon Williams. on the last five years. he has build a reputation like no other as a correct and righteous man. he is the most fearful being on this small town.
"had you ever met the midnight reaper?"
"no. I don't know that criminal."
the detective looks at her hands for a moment. he call tell that she is still affected by the chaos of yesterday. she is full of fear. there is nothing he can do for her. all he can do is to put criminals behind bars. protecting her isn't easy.
"he talked to you before he left. he told you to hide. something that a stranger would never tell to another stranger."
Sidney drops her coffee confuse. he was talking about Rigoberto. the same guy who took Jack's life. and the same guy who has being trying to help her, for atonement for his past wrong doings. he can't be that mass murderer. not on her head.
"it can't be, him? is he? but he is a regular client. he feels pity for me since he found out that he killed my boyfriend. he is a good guy."
the detective understands everything. he thanks her for her cooperation. then he leaves without saying any other word.
he walks on the streets thinking about what he saw the day before. there is a sound, like the sound of many shot guns and an explosion. the detective runs. he sees a car on flames with some bodies inside.
he takes a cigar out of his pockets. the Detective smokes while looking at the fire on the car and the burning corpses. he is there just standing in front of a dead body. like if it was nothing. this scenario was too common on this small town. people no longer are affected by the violence nor gore.
the detective keeps walking to the direction of the most dangerous streets on the town, a zone full of the worst scum that society can bring. he smiles at every rat that he sees human or not. the creatures aren't the only grotesque thing. the whole area was rotten.
as the Detective keeps walking, he sees a few people all beaten up. there are times in which he loses faith in this society. but in those times of lack of faith he looks at the sky and its clouds. he looks up on hope of inspiration to keep fighting crime.
"even it the darker days. even in those days of gray skies, there is a moment in which the sky turns blue again. and I see it. I see the light bringing me back to my path, the path of the warrior. the light of hope can be the purest or most simple thing."
he takes a picture of his daughter out of his pockets. he looks at that picture while smiling at it. he knows that his daughter is the biggest light of hope that keeps him walking on these streets full of human waste.
.....
in the meantime.
Rig is taking a shower. while he washes his body, he decides to sing. he thinks about the things he has done so far. he gets out of the shower. he stands in there looking at jack, whom is disappointed for what happen a few hours ago.
"don't look at me like if it wasn't my problem, you didn't teach that moron some manners. don't villainize me, don't push the blame on me. I am the victim here. it isn't about me, no. it is about you, and your little family."
"you killed him. you killed my brother. and kept moving like if it is nothing. don't you hold any humanity? don't you have any kind conscious? what kind of human commits murder. and then keeps going singing and dancing. there is no remorse, nor any drop of guilt, nor a soul on you. you are a fake human. you are as cold as a corpse."
"oh my! the big boy is going to cry. I don't care. and I am going to ignore you, if you keep whining like a bitch about the same old shit. congrats now you have company on hell."
Rig puts some clothes on. he then leaves his room. while walking downstairs. he finds an old man with white hair in front of him. the old man has some homemade food. the old man is Rig's boss. they talk for some time before Rig leaves the department.
he walks on the streets with hope to get lost, and to never be found. he looks at an old looking coffee chop. inside of it is a beautiful girl sitting alone. she is wearing a leather jacket, red boots, black jeans.
this mysterious lady has long black hair. her body shape isn't fat, nor skinny. her skin is so sensitive to the cold weather that almost looks pink. she has four moles on her face. one behind her left ear. one on top of her eyebrow. one on her nose. and one under her lower lips. her eyes are bright blue. she is 5'7.
there is no logical explanation to why a cold man like Rig could feel human emotions and expose for once. for a normal human it is beautiful to feel such emotions. for Rig it is terrifying, and even scary.
are this emotions welcome? are them unwelcome? Rig trembles as he struggles to find a reason to talk to her. for the first time on his entire life. he feels shy in front of a lady and he haven't approach her jet. he feels some sort of force pushing him towards her.
slowly step by step. he gets closer to the coffee shop. he opens the door. he sighs loudly before entering. he is nervous, but somehow he feels like he was meant to meet her today. like destiny. he steps in front of her.
"may I know your name? I don't want to sound like a creep, or a freak. but while I was walking. I was thinking about how disappointing life can be, then I saw your sweet and charming smile. and I felt that we were meant to be. sounds crazy, right? but I felt my heart in flames when I saw your flirty eyes."
"excuse me, are you flirting with me? I usually say not interested. but because at least you tried to be original. I would tell you my name, it is Nina. so is there more? or those were your best lines?"
"pardon me. I am not good at this, but I would like to confess, that I wish to be more than a buffoon ridiculing himself in front of you. I truly believe that faith has put you on my way, or faith has put me on your way."
"then how have you done it before? because I won't believe you, if you tell me that I would be your first victim."
"no. the previous girl was the one whom did the moves on me, I had to clarify that she did some scary things. but outside from her, I haven't met anyone else on my entire life. if you allow me to be honest, I truly believe that we may be meant to be."
Nina laughs loudly. she was on a call with a classmate on a college project. but since Rig interrupted the call the other person has being listening to the whole conversation. you can even hear the sound of popcorn and the sounds of him drinking soda.
"I don't believe you. a handsome devil like you with less experience than me, not likely probable. maybe you just want to use me, and then leave when you get tired. is this you trying to get a one night deal? I prefer long love base relationships."
Rig looks at her with teary eyes. for some reason he feels hurt. he never expected to suffer for his lack of experience talking to ladies. Rig turns around. he is about to leave when she stops him
"wait. you haven't told me your name handsome, care to introduce yourself now?"
Rig turns his head at her direction. his face looks like the face of a scolded child. he is unsure if today is real. what he is sure about, is how he feels now for her. it all feels new. for once Rig actually wants to be a normal human being.
"Rigoberto, my name is Rigoberto Mendez. but you can call me 'Rig.' or whatever you choose to call me, I really don't care." his voice sounded soft.
