Demons In The Fray I

The two sides watched each other carefully through the barrier. The Otanian soldiers had a numbers advantage, but it was useless against two magic users... especially when those two magic users are demons. They themselves had four: three fire users and one light user, but their magic was far weaker than the demons. The demons used dark magic, which takes the form of their desires, making each demon's magic unique. And unlike the other forms of magic, dark magic continuously grows more powerful by feeding off the demon's desire.

Jenabas looked at the demon on top of the house. They already knew what kind of magic the male demon used, but the female demon has yet to show her powers. Since the demon carried around a book, Jenabas assumed that she also used some kind of ranged magic and was weak in close combat.

Jackel stumbled a little before catching himself. "Princess, I can't hold it up much longer," Jackel huffed. Keeping up a barrier of this size was not an easy task. He could only keep it up for another few seconds.

Jenabas explains her insight to the soldiers. "Both of them use ranged magic which means that they should be weak at fighting at melee range. We just need to get near them. Soldiers, you take on the demon that is on the ground, and mages. you will take on the demon on the roof and try to knock her onto the ground."

"Yes, princess!" The soldiers shouted in unison.

Jenabas took a deep breath and said, "Jackel, drop the barrier now." The second the light dispersed, the soldiers all charged forward.

The male demon wasted no time and began to relentlessly shoot black bolts at the soldiers. The female demon, on the other hand, did nothing and stood her ground.

"Mages, shoot the female demon on the roof!" At Jenabas' command, fireballs flew towards the demon, but she did not react at all.

Just before the attacks were about to reach her, the female demon raised her arm. creating a purple magic barrier and blocks the fireballs with it. She then opens her book and several dark spheres come out. They then start spinning around in the shape of a diamond and a link is formed between each of them. Magic bolts shoot out rapidly from the center of the diamond.

"Watch out!" Jenabas shouted. The mages all group together and put up their hands to create a reinforced barrier to block the attack. The magic bolts plummet into the barrier relentlessly. The mages began to breathe heavily as their magic power was being drained from the continuous barrage. One of the mages suddenly started coughing blood and collapsed.

Jenabas needed to figure out something quick. She looked at the spinning diamond. Since the magic bolts were coming out of that, all they needed to do was to destroy it and the attacks would stop. "Jackel, try dispelling that with your light," she said.

Jackel was still exhausted from creating such a massive barrier from before but he did as he was told. He raises his arm and chants something. A beam of light shoots out from his palm and hits the spinning diamond. But instead of shattering it as Jenabas had expected, the beam bounces back and hits Jackel in the shoulder.

"Ack!" Jackel falls over clutching his shoulder with his hand.

"Jackel!" Jenabas kneels down and takes Jackel's hand off his shoulder to examine the wound. The light had burnt and torn apart his skin and blood was coming out. Jenabas grabs her red cloak and tears off a large portion of it and begins to wrap it around the wound.

"Princess, leave it. We don't have time," said Jackel.

"I-" A cry interrupts Jenabas and she turns around to see the rest of the mages fall over as the barrier shatters. But for whatever reason, right after the barrier broke the female demon stopped her barrage. The purple spheres flew back into her book and she closed it. Jenabas didn't understand why she was sparing them.

There was another cry and Jenabas turned to see that it was roughly the same situation with the male demon. The soldiers were getting annihilated and were unable to even reach the male demon despite their numbers. It was incredible how the demon was able to accurately hit multiple targets at once with his attacks.

"Ha! Is that all you humans can do?" the male demon taunted. He laughed hysterically as the last soldier was blasted in the chest and was sent flying back.

Jenabas looked around. The soldiers were all either dead or incapacitated and the mages were unable to continue fighting. She was the only one that was left. The male demon unfolded his wings and in an instant closed the gap between them.

"Princess!" Jackel cried out.

Jenabas tried to back off but it was too late. "Urk!" The demon grabbed her throat and lifted her up until her feet were dangling just above the ground. "Princess? I don't know why a princess would be on the battlefield but you should be the commander of this army then, aren't you?" he asked.

"Let go of the princess you fiend!" Jackel yelled at the demon. He raised his arm and tried to chant something but the male demon pointed his finger at Jackel and shot a bolt of magic at his leg. "AHH!" Jackel cried out in pain before falling unconscious.

Jenabas tried to say something but couldn't because the demon was holding her by the neck. She started to kick at the demon's legs but it was no use. It only agitated the demon even more. He lifted her up higher and then slammed her onto the ground. Jenabas let out a cry of pain and then started coughing. "Argh!" The demon stomped his foot on her stomach.

"I'll ask again," the demon said. "Are you the commander of this army?" the demon pointed around at all the soldiers lying on the ground. Jenabas kept silent and gave the demon a stern look. The demon looked emotionlessly at her for a second before he smiled and laughed. "Tough one, aren't you." The demon grabbed Jenabas by her neck again and lifted her up until their faces were so close that they were practically touching each other. "I'll assume you are." Jenabas continued to say nothing.

The demon let go of her collar and her head fell back onto the floor. He chuckled and said, "Don't worry, I'll keep you alive for now. Though, after I finish killing the rest of your soldiers, I'll be sure to send you alongside them." The demon kept his foot on her stomach and waved his hand and created several magic circles.

But before the demon could do anything more, the floor suddenly began to shake and three slabs of earth shot out of the ground around Jenabas and forced the male demon to jump back. Jenabas turned to see a small group of Silvian soldiers running up to them. But unlike the ones that they had fought so far, they were much better geared.

Siegfried and Lentis, accompanied by a few of the other knights, arrived at the scene to see Otanian soldiers lying on the ground all over the place and two demons.

"So the reports are true," said Siegfried. He drew his blade and charged at the male demon, swinging at his head.

The demon jumped back and dodged the attack. "Tch, more humans. Well, since I'm planning on killing you all, this will save me some time."

Siegfried and a few of the other knights positioned themselves between the demons and Jenabas. "Lentis, I got this one. You take the other one," Siegfried pointed at the female demon on the roof.

"Understood."
