Chasing A Traitor

Lisler brought his sword up and parried the light as it came at him. The female undead leaped up onto a branch of a nearby tree to dodge the attack. The two of them sensed the danger in letting the light come into contact with them but weren't sure what it did.

"Huh? What was that? Nothing happened-" Ammine's sentence was cut short as the undead around them all began to decay into nothingness. "What did you do?" she asked the witch.

"This isn't the time to ask questions. Quick after them!" Fae shouted. He pointed his staff at Lisler and the female undead who were running away. They clearly hadn't expected something like that and weren't prepared for it. Now that they had lost their advantage, they were fleeing.

"Cowards!" Bloodmane roared at the two as they were fleeing. Without wasting another second, the werewolf began to pursue the two and the rest of the werewolves also followed. Everyone else also started to give chase but none of them were even remotely close to the werewolves and the two undead. They could only watch as the distance between them gradually widened and eventually the werewolves and the undead both disappeared from their sight.

"We're losing them! Argh, curse this frail body!" Fae shouted. He was the furthest in the back and was unable to keep up with the group. He was very quickly falling behind and couldn't do anything about it.

"Ugh, what a pain." Ammine stopped running, turned, and grabbed the undead as he ran by from under his shoulders."

"Huh? What are you doing!?"

"Oh quiet down." Ammine opened her wings and flew up into the air and sped past the group. The Witch Witch also stopped running and took flight. Kies saw that she didn't have wings or anything to enable flight. She flew through the air just like a banshee.

Kies, who had been in the middle of the group, was now the furthest behind. He tried to increase his speed but it was impossible. There were too many trees in the way and therefore, no way for him to run in a straight line which was what wind magic required in order to increase speed.

"Hoot, you're struggling, child." Haro slowed down his pace and flew alongside Kies. Issie was holding onto his back as if the owl was giving her a ride. He did a barrel roll and switched sides, going from the right to the left of Kies. Kies couldn't talk while running, and just looked at the owl. "Let's stop for a second," Haro suggested.

The three of them stopped moving and watched as the ones ahead of them disappeared from sight. "Let me guess, there's a spell that lets me increase my speed."

"Indeed child. Now, repeat carefully after me. This is a rather long one."

Kies slowly repeated after Haro word for word. "Winds, gather and take me. Be my guide as I make my way under these skies, follow as I find my path." The winds flew to Kies, swallowing him. He felt as if he weighed nothing. Kies took a few steps and saw that he didn't make any sound as he walked.

"Hoot, you got it perfectly. Now, all you need is a little practice and you'll be able to navigate your way around even the toughest of terrains with that spell active," Haro told Kies.

"How much faster does it make me?"

"Instead of me telling you, wouldn't it be easier for you to see for yourself? Also, it's best if we do not idle around for too long. We're considerably far behind everyone else. We need to catch up to them soon."

Without wasting any more time, Kies began to run after the group. He sprinted through the forest at an incredible speed. It felt strange yet amazing at the same time to run since it didn't feel like he was running in his own body. Kies thought that he would have trouble with all the trees in the way but surprisingly, he didn't. He was able to run through the forest smoothly without any problem at all.

"Hoot, it looks like you're a natural at this," Haro commented. He was flying right behind Kies at a steady pace. Kies was pretty sure that if he wanted to, Haro could easily surpass him in speed. He wasn't sure if the owl was the fastest out of everyone, but he was definitely up there.

Kies estimated that at the speed that he was moving at, it would only take him a minute or two to catch up with the others. Of course, that was only if he didn't run into a tree or a horde of undead. Flying was definitely a lot safer. He felt somewhat left out since he was the only one who isn't currently flying. There had to be a wind spell out there that would let him fly.

Kies looked at Haro who flew a bit ahead of him. The owl did another barrel roll. He knew that it wasn't on purpose, but it felt like Haro was taunting him. "If you're wondering if there is a spell that lets you fly, there is, but it's too much for you right now. Of course, I will teach it to you later since right now you should learn one spell at a time."

So there was one. That was a good thing to know. Kies was definitely looking forward to that one.
