Railgun

Luke was speechless to the sentence Arian just stated. Like, what the hell he supposed to do in the Infiltration mission, especially with his T9-Rank ability!!

"Are you sure Elder Wayne didn't wrongly select me as your partner? Supposedly, he should choose a stronger guy instead of me." Luke asked after getting startled for a moment.

"Don't ask me this question. What I know is that the current you are my partner," Arian expressed coldly before walked straight away, leaving the flabbergasted Luke by himself.

'Did he have to say in a harsh tone like that?' Luke mused inwardly as he stared at Arian's back before he broke his gaze and stared at the gun he held, "Either way, I'll just overcome whatever obstacles that come to me."

As he inspected the gun thoroughly, the system suddenly reacted by letting out a notification sound.

'New feature, huh?' Luke thought to himself before he changed the weapon he held into the dagger one and started inspecting it the same way as the gun.

'My mastery on the dagger is one? It probably comes from the swinging and stabbing movement I executed before. But familiarity? How to increase it?' When Luke fell into deep thought, Arian's voice dragged Luke from his own world, "Catch this!"

Catching whatever Arian threw, Luke slowly loosened his grip and a white tube with a green cross attached on its centre revealed into his view, "What's this?"

"It's the ammunition for Railgun," Arian answered as he approached Luke.

"Railgun??"

"Yeah, the gun I selected for you was called Railgun. Well, to call it Railgun also inappropriate. Let's just call it Railgun V1."

'Isn't that the same thing???' Luke thought inwardly as he stared at Arian like he was an idiot.

Arian, oblivious to Luke's thought, continuing his explanation, "It's a deadly weapon that could one-shot any person. The ammunition that currently resides in your palm was containing an immense amount of electricity particles. Therefore, it's simply an electric bomb if you don't treat it carefully."

Realizing the thing he held was an electric bomb, Luke almost dropped it in fright. Just then, a notification from the system came.

'My familiarity now increased? Is it because of Arian's explanation?'

Seeing Luke in a daze, Arian thought he was scared as hell to the extent that he didn't dare to move. Hence, Arian assured him, "It's not that dangerous, you know. That green cross was the thing that prevents electricity leaked out. So, unless you deliberately wanted to break the tube by crushing it a few times, It wouldn't explode."

'Now, I'm sure that the familiarity was increased due to the knowledge I gained from Arian's elucidation.' Luke thought to himself before he snapped out from his thought and said in relief, "You should say that in the first place."

"Anyway, let's go to practice, shall we? Hand me the gun and the tube." Arian demanded.

Giving the gun and tube as Arian order, Luke then watch Arian slide the top side of the railgun, resulting in that part exposed. The insides were empty as Luke expected. Arian then proceed to insert the tube proficiently and closed the exposed part afterward. His movements are smooth as if already doing this a hundred times.

"There's this concentration bar, in which you can set up how much amount of power do you want this gun to exert. On the right side was the volume of the ammunition tube." Arian elaborated as he pointed out a screen at the railgun rear sight where the number 0% and an image of a tube with a number 100% being displayed.

'Oh! So that's how the screen work.' The screen was initially blank the first Luke inspected. He thought it was a dot sight. But after few attempts sticking his eyes on the screen. He sees nothing but blackness. Thus, Luke was ignorant about what's it functions until Arian informed him just now.

Seeing Luke paying attention to him wholly, Arian explained further, "Currently, the percentage shown on the screen was zero. Then, how to increase it? It's simple." Upon saying that, Arian directed the railgun onto the dummy target, "Press the trigger, but don't let go your finger first. Because it was a railgun we talked about, not a normal handgun. It needs charging to be shoot. That's a disadvantage of a railgun. It cost time."

"Then, wouldn't it be more dangerous for us, the user? As we are charging the energy, the enemy would definitely use this chance to attack us." Luke questioned in doubt.

"That's not entirely true. Since 1% percentage is enough to knock unconscious a normal person."

"What?!? Only 1 percent??" Luke blurted out in shock. Isn't it truly frightening for a gun size?

"Yes. And we only need a second to charge 1%. Hence, you can basically swipe a mob in a few seconds. Not only that, if you managed to charge until 5%, the electric beam wouldn't be limited to one person only. The electric beam would penetrate through their body and hit the person behind them. In bigger percentage cases, you can even blow an entire building with that gun only."

"Watch and learn," Arian commanded as he adjusted his body posture and started performing a shooting posture. With both of his hands gripped the railgun handle, Arian closed one of his eyes to see the target more vividly. After directing the muzzle correctly, Arian pressed the trigger gently. His finger remains unmoved until the displayed number increased by 1%. That instant, Arian released his finger and the railgun emitted crackling sounds as if something about to come out.

*Crackle*

Along with the sounds of crackle, a laser beam began to burst out from the railgun muzzle. Unlike a normal beam, the thing railgun unleashed was a beam with electric arcs revolved around it. It was akin to a thunder dragon were flying through the air.

The beam was advancing at a rapid pace that Luke's eyes couldn't follow the tip of the beam. And before Luke's eyes could follow the tip of the beam, the beam already reached its target, which is none other than a dummy target. As the beam landed on the dummy's chest, a scorching mark gradually emerged from it. Simultaneously, the beam denseness gradually thinning and extinguished a couple of seconds later.

"So, how's it? Is Railgun performance satisfied your curiosity?" Arian asked while raising his eyebrows.

"Yes!" Seeing Luke's face went red due to excitement, Arian threw the railgun over Luke, "Go try it, then. I can see from your face that you really wanted to try this weapon so badly."

Accepting the Railgun, Luke observing it with fires lit up in his eyes. What made Luke excited most was the thought of him controlling the direction of the beam. If he can apply the control on the moving beam, wouldn't this weapon become more deadly in his hands? Suppressing his joyfulness, Luke saunter to the shooting spot.

Adjusting his posture like Arian does, Luke slowly lifting his hands and pointed the railgun over the dummy target direction. Tilting his head slightly, Luke closed one of his eyes before pressing the trigger. After watching the percentage number change from zero to one percent, Luke immediately retracts his finger, resulting in the beam shooting forth from the railgun muzzle.

In that fraction of second, Luke chanted inwardly, 'Control!'
