Chapter 55: Truth, Part 3

Carl was sitting on the other side of Chris, not saying anything, and the rest of the gang was already sitting around the fire, which was already blazing, glowing yellow, orange, and red.

"What took you so long?" Aiden asked, looking at me, and laughed, as Chris punched him on the arm. Aiden shoved him off the log. I had the feeling that I was missing an inside joke.

I laughed and casually hurried across the field to Timmy. Brandon walked slowly across to us and sat down on the log next to ours. He eyed Aiden and me, but said nothing. Man, how I wished for the old days … in more ways than one. I laughed without humor.

"What's so funny?" Aiden asked, looking over at Timmy.

"Nothing," I said, laughing.

"What?" Aiden asked, curious.

I looked into the fire as Timmy laid his head on my shoulder. "Nothing. I was just thinking that here I am just sixteen years old and reminiscing about the old days. Strange," I said as I slipped my arm around Timmy.
