The ride to the hospital is silent. We're taken by helicopter because it'll be quicker and right now money is no object. I'd give a man everything I own if he could just get me to Aurora. The waiting isn't over though when we reach the hospital. We're ushered into a waiting room.
I pace and I know I'm making Aileen and Michelle more anxious, but I can't bring myself to stop. Every nerve inside me is on fire with worry and I'm like an unexploded nuke just waiting to detonate.
"Mrs Stone?" A doctor in blue scrubs approaches us. I stop pacing and walk over to them. "Your husband is absolutely fine. He's just in shock."
Michelle's eyes are relieved, but her body remains tense.
"We checked him over and I want to keep him in overnight just as a precaution. In case he has a concussion."
"And my daughter?" Her question sounds calm, but she is anything but calm. Her fingers are tapping on the arm of the chair and she can't keep her feet still. She loves her daughter very much.
