"Such a lovely boy," Tilly said, as she watched him ordering another round. "Such impeccable manners. But what an odd idea."
"Getting the drinks?"
"No, Silly, doctors not being respectable."
Johnny sat back in his chair, a pensive expression on his face. "I seem to remember Ravi once saying something along those lines," he said. "Of course, he actually was a prince."
"He studied law, didn't he?"
"Yes, but he never had any intention of practising. It was just a suitable subject, you know, for a prince."
"Hmm."
They broke off as Kim returned with a tray and the menu.
"Here we are! What do you think? Shall we have the roast beef?"
"Are you allowed to eat beef?" Tilly asked, remembering that Ravi never ate beef or pork for religious reasons.
Kim grinned at her. "I don't mind as long as it's not an Indian cow." He picked up his new pint. "Same goes for the beer."
Of course, Tilly remembered now. Ravi never drank alcohol either.
