NARRATIVE of WARD COURIER, Continued

The Towns of WALES, HOLLAND, and AURORA, ERIE COUNTY, NY
I had a long gas line to traverse, this one mostly straight and climbing. Then it was a road crossing, a narrower winding ATV route, another road crossing, a frozen pond, then the top of the big power line I had taken to start this route hours before. I was looking forward to that long, smooth, west-facing downhill.
In thirty minutes I was on the spine of the ridge and about four dropping kilometers from my cottage. It was still brilliant overhead, and I probably had more light than I had expected. The front was moving slowly and on a course that was almost straight north and a mile or so west of my own. I would be heading under it when I turned downhill to get home.
