Wooyoung was breathing, yes, but barely. Water was basically oozing out of his mouth, followed with violent coughs. After laying on the ground for what felt like hours to him, he finally opened his eyes, only to meet someone he never thought he would meet here out of all places.
Blinking his eyes as if he was a ghost, he opened his mouth warily. "Y- Yeosang??" He gasped, sitting up with careful moves. "W- What are you doing here?" He blinked again, not believing his eyes.
Yeosang clicked his tongue, looking away from Wooyoung and making his way to a tree and leaning against it. "Not really your business." Was all he had to say back.
Yeosang was obviously not on the mood to talk, so all Wooyoung did was nod. He moved his gaze elsewhere thinking about all the times he talked with Yeosang, although he has changed a lot.
They knew each other in the past, they were friends, if not best friends even. They were basically inseparable ever since they met, but Wooyoung's parents changed that. For some stupid reason, they started keeping Wooyoung at home, not letting him go see his friend at all. They didn't let him call him or text him either, basically locking him inside his room.
After a few months, he was allowed to talk to Yeosang again, but what he didn't expect was how cold Yeosang had become in such a short time, especially towards Wooyoung. Yeosang ha stopped talking to him, probably getting rid of all his contact info and messages with him, too. Wooyoung had no idea what had happened, but he figured it had something to do with his parents. Maybe they made Yeosang shut up with money or maybe they manipulated him.
In the end Yeosang left you and became friends with other people, leaving Wooyoung all alone. At some point he even started to bullying Wooyoung with his friend group and he legitimately seemed to enjoy bullying Wooyoung. But he didn't do anything about the bullying, seeing as his friend enjoyed it so much. Also, there wasn't anything he could have done about it anyways, so he just let them do what they always did to him.
But after years of bullying, he had had enough. He decided to change schools without telling his parents, because they'd get mad at him for it. Of course they found out he had changed schools after a while. His mother was furious for months, but she couldn't do anything about it so she eventually let it be.
Even though Wooyoung had changed schools in the hopes of stopping the bullying, people didn't change. Rumors about him had spread to other schools as well, the people immediately believing everything, as Wooyoung expected. School wasn't fun anymore, considering that everyone literally hated him and avoided him as best as they could.
『 ↳✧・゚ the warning starts from here :) 』
His life was was literal hell, but he tried to endure it, he really tried to. He always kept a smile on his face even though it hurt, even though he was hurting inside. All the pain inside him was getting unbelievably unbearable and he had no one to tell about it. He had no one to hug or cry with when he needed to.
His mother was abusive and didn't care about him one bit, only seeing him as an object to use and his father was so much worse. Wooyoung lost count how many times his father had forced him in his room, basically ripping his clothes off and used him for his own pleasures. It disgusted him, it made him feel disgusted about himself and he hated every second of his life.
All the times his father forced alcohol down his throat or the times when he left him in the basement without food were burned into his mind, never leaving him. All the memories haunted him and were still haunting him, everyday. But he tried to be happy, he tried to keep that small smile on his lips, ignoring everything around him. And it actually worked, for a while at least.
But everyone gets tired of smiling at some point, especially if that smile is fake. He couldn't keep smiling because who was he fooling?
Himself of course.
Why would anyone care about his well-being other than himself in the first place? He kept smiling because he felt like it kept the walls around him in place. He kept smiling because he didn't want to remember all those awful memories again. But who was he kidding? He felt like nothing even though he smiled, he still felt all that pain even though he smiled. That smile did nothing and never would.

『 ↳✧・゚ you're safe now :) 』
"Are you even listening to me?"
Wooyoung flinched and realized he had been daydreaming for too long. Yeosang had been calling for him for a while and he had ignored everything. "W- what? Oh... sorry..." He whispered, lowering his gaze to the ground.
Yeosang roller his eyes and sighed. "As I said, you have to come with me." He explained, standing up and approaching Wooyoung once again. The other only furrowed his brows in confusion, watching as Yeosang closed the distance between them.
"Why?" Wooyoung blurted out, Yeosang obviously a little taken aback by his comment. "Why do I have to come with you? Why did you save me in the first place?" He stood up, coughing a little bit while he was at it. "Did I say I wanted to be saved, especially by you? Did I ask to be saved?!" He was now yelling, startling Yeosang who only widened his eyes and took a small step back.
Yeosang took a deep breath, changing his expression back to the cold and emotionless one. "Look, Wooyoung, here's the deal." He closed his eyes, rubbing the bridge of his nose. "I don't care if you didn't want to be saved or not, that's not my problem, but I had my orders and those orders said that I have to keep you alive no matter what." He took a step forward, glaring at Wooyoung who was now speechless.
The boy was baffled if anything. Who the hell gave Yeosang orders like that and why? "I don't understand..." He whispered, annoying Yeosang even more. He could visibly see Yeosang's eye twitch as he said that.
Yeosang chuckled lowly, placing his hand on Wooyoung's shoulder. "You don't have to understand. "He whispered, breath hitting Wooyoung's ear and making him shiver from the coldness in Yeosang's voice. "Or do you want be that guy's slave for the rest of your life and possibly get killed?" He laughed, releasing Wooyoung's shoulder and backing off a little bit.
"Yeosang, stop with that attitude." A familiar voice boomed in the forest, both males turning their heads towards the source of the new voice. "You're scaring him." San laughed, pushing Yeosang away from Wooyoung to check up on him.
Yeosang scoffed and walked to the tree again, leaning against it. San let out another laugh and looked at Wooyoung who was still frozen in one place. "Wooyoung? Are you okay?" He glanced at the younger. Sensing something was wrong, he took his hand and led them somewhere more private. "Come back to me, Wooyoung." He said softly, placing a hand on his cheek and moving his thumb against it.
Wooyoung blinked, shifting his gaze to San, finally getting out of his thoughts and returning to the right head space. "I-" He struggled, the words getting stuck in his throat. "I'm- I'm fine..." He managed to say with a shaky voice. San narrowed his eyes, not believing a word that came out of Wooyoung's mouth.
"Are you sure?" San said, looking at Wooyoung, trying to find some kind of emotion from his eyes. "You look like you just came from another world." He joked, hoping to make the atmosphere a little more easy-going, but he failed. Wooyoung just stared at him, glassy eyes visible in the moonlight.
San gasped softly after seeing the first tear fall, engulfing Wooyoung in a tight hug, wrapping his arms around him in a protective manner. Hearing Wooyoung's broken cries in his arms made his heart break into small pieces. He hated hearing the boy cry and he had no idea why.
Ever since he heard him cry for the first time, this protective instinct had started inside him. He had no idea where that feeling had come from, but for some reason, he felt the need to protect him at all costs. He felt mesmerized by Wooyoung, everything about the other felt unknown to him.
He wanted to know more about Wooyoung the more he talked with him, he wanted to get to know him more and more that it felt like he was obsessing over him, when in reality it was something completely different.
When Wooyoung's cries had died down, San released him from the hug, keeping his arms securely around Wooyoung's waist. "Are you okay now?" He whispered, looking at Wooyoung for the tenth time that day.
Wooyoung only gave him a small nod, not knowing if he was really fine or not. San knew this, of course. There was no way Wooyoung was actually fine after everything he had been through. San was just happy at the fact that Wooyoung trusted him and felt better around him.
"Are we going?" An annoyed Yeosang approached the two. "I can't stand this place at all, it smells like humans." He huffed, gaining a chuckle from San.
"Yeah, yeah." San said, releasing Wooyoung from his grasp. "Don't be so grumpy, Yeosang. We're going as soon as Wooyoung knows about our situation, okay?" He reassured, gaining an angry look from Yeosang once again.
San didn't notice Wooyoung's wobbly legs after he let him go, only hearing the thud behind him when Wooyoung had collapsed to the ground. He turned around almost immediately, hands finding their place on Wooyoung's waist again. "Wooyoung?" He worried. "Are you injured?"
If Wooyoung had to be completely honest, it hurt like hell. The wound on his shoulder had reopened and his lower back was hurting so much he could yell right then and there. His limbs were paralyzed and his breathing was very uneven. San had noticed this, widening his eyes, catching Wooyoung's body in his arms before he fell completely unconscious.
San sighed, raising Wooyoung's shirt to see the damage that had been done, furrowing his brows as he saw the wound he had had reopened, blood flowing out of it, painting his shirt in red.
Wooyoung smiled weakly, looking at San. "I think- I'm fine." He grunted. "I just need a little- ugh- rest." He shook his head to get rid of the dizziness.
San looked at him, shaking his head. "You're literally bleeding, you're not fine." He chuckled, Wooyoung widening his smile as he looked at San. "And stop smiling like that."
"Like what?"
"Like that."
A laugh erupted from Wooyoung, San widening his eyes in surprise and smiling right after. Hearing Wooyoung laugh in this situation was like medicine to him and it made him happy if anything.
"San." Yeosang yelled. "Can we go already? And stop clinging to Wooyoung like he's your fucking child or something."
"Yeah, yeah." San laughed with Wooyoung. "And stop ordering me around, I'm literally your captain, you ungrateful bastard." He stuck his tongue at Yeosang who only huffed in annoyance.
"You're the ungrateful bitch here-"
"Yeosang, stop or else I'll throw you in the ocean." San growled, gaining another angry look from Yeosang.
"Fine." Yeosang huffed.
"Good."
Wooyoung chuckled at the two, looking up at the river where he was saved from, twice. San looked at Wooyoung's profile and smiled, picking him up from the ground. "Let's get you some warm clothes." He chuckled, pointing at the wet clothes Wooyoung had on.
Wooyoung glanced at his wet clothes, a blush creeping its way to his cheeks and making its way to his ears as well. "W- where are we going?" He stuttered, looking away from San.
"I have some on my ship." San blurted out, confusing Wooyoung. "And don't look at me like that, you'll see what I mean in a minute." He laughed and pecked Wooyoung's forehead, startling him.
"W- wha-" He gasped, the blush turning deep red.
San smirked. "Your payment." He simply stated.
