The people near the waterfall were laughing and joking around with each other, you would never have guessed that their Kingdom is at war.
"Hi, guy's sorry I took so long," Alex called out before apologising to them. They all turned around to look at him smiling.
"Well at least you're here now," the girl with raven black hair and hazelnut eyes said still smiling.
"What took you so long?" the other girl who has long, curly, hazelnut hair and pale pink eyes moaned.
"Yeah! You took forever," the man with bluebell hair which is almost raven, moaned his emerald green eyes catching rays of the setting sun inside them.
"You two moan to much but I have to agree you took a long time, you didn't get lost did you?" the second man with chestnut hair and grey mysterious eyes teased.
"I didn't get lost, I got attacked," Alex replied to their teasing with all seriousness.
"Seriously? But I thought that Malum was supposed to be safe no one knew we were coming here," the girl with crystal eyes proclaimed in astonishment.
"I thought it was safe as well Crystal," Alex replied to the girl who Diana now knows is called Crystal.
"Are you okay?" the man with chestnut hair asked his words etched with concern.
"I'm fine Kylo," Alex reassured the man known as Kylo.
"How many people attacked you?" the emerald-eyed man asked.
"Two people a women and a man no older than twenty maby twenty-one," Alex continued answering their questions "but don't worry Hunter," he said seeing the worry in the man's eyes "she came along and helped me out and ended up killing both of them."
They all looked shocked as they noticed Diana.
The women with ebony hair which just passes her shoulders was the first to regain her composure. "You saved him?" she asked Diana.
"I'm sure he would have been just fine without my help," Diana answered her question.
"Well none the less thank you," she said smiling at Diana.
"There's no need to thank me," Diana said full of honesty.
"I agree with Maddy even if you don't want to accept our thanks that won't stop us from thanking you," Crystal agreed with the girl called Maddy.
"Yeah the girls are right you deserve our thanks," Hunter agreed.
"You guys do realise that you may be thanking her but you've completely forgotten to introduce yourselves, right?" Kylo pointed out to them which made them all fall quiet and avert their eyes which made Diana giggle under her breath.
"Don't worry about it I already know all your names," this made them all look at Diana in astonishment.
"How?" Crystal asked astounded.
"You all already said your names," Diana explained to them which made them all blush a little.
"Well as you know all our names, can we ask yours?" Hunter asked.
"I'm Diana, Alex's personal knight," Diana explained to them.
They all looked at Alex who had unmounted Solis and is tying her up to a tree next to the others and Diana followed after tying Luna up as well.
"We leave you for two days and you find a personal knight which might I add you had been refusing to have for years," Kylo blurted astounded and all the others were wearing the same expression on their faces.
"Yeah, well...I guess none of the other candidates were what I was looking for," Alex replied a blush creeping up his ears from his cheeks.
"Well, either way, it's nice to have another girl in our group it's so annoying being surrounded by so many boys all the time now we have just as many girls." Crystal explained smiling as she and Maddy came over to Diana after she finished tying Luna up to a tree they pulled her over to where the others were sitting, with Alex following behind the three of them.
"So Diana where are you from?" Kylo asked after they all sat down and were settled.
"I'm from Malum," Diana answered.
"Really? Awesome it must have been so nice growing up in a place without any war," Crystal explained a hint of longing in her voice "Where did you two meet and when?" She asked with curiosity.
"We met today near the southern border between the Kingdom of Malum and the Kingdom of Fortis. I was leaving Malum and heading to Fortis to become a knight because my title....let's just say it restricted me from becoming a knight as long as I lived in Malum and so I decided to leave which is how I met Alex." Diana explained to all of them.
"Wait so let me get this straight, you were leaving a peaceful kingdom and going to a kingdom at war all to become a knight?" Kylo asked.
"Pretty much," Diana responded full of honesty.
"And your parents are okay with it?" Hunter asked.
"They didn't have much choice, I left yesterday evening and they've been searching for me ever since I tried to get them to understand but in the end, they forbade me from becoming a knight as long as I lived in Malum so I left." Diana answered remembering briefly the argument she had with her parents.
"That was really brave of you," Maddy said as they all looked at Diana in astonishment "but your family must be worried about you, are you going to tell them where you are once you're in Fortis?"
"No I won't, they're probably more worried about their reputation and how vulnerable my disappearance will make them seem to their enemies." Diana explained "But it doesn't bother me when I think about it I don't think they ever cared about me unless I was doing something they didn't like but even then they would pretend to care to try and convince me otherwise but I've had enough of it. I left and I don't plan on ever going back," Diana said full of conviction after seeing the looks they were giving her.
"Well now you've got a new family and home," Crystal said smiling before giving Diana a hug and Maddy followed suit Diana didn't really do hugs but it would be rude to push them off so she just sat there until they let go.
"So you're from a well known noble family here in Malum?" Hunter asked.
"Yeah," Diana answered, she's not technically lying as her family is well known they're just royals instead of nobles.
"Well enough of family drama; we came here to have fun and we have to celebrate the arrival of our new friend Diana," Crystal said cheerily as she walked over to her horse and grabbed six drinks throwing one to each of them.
"I agree with Crystal let's have some fun," Kylo said enthusiastically before jumping up and going to dance with Crystal.
"Come on let's join them," Hunter proclaimed before standing up and offering his hand to Maddy to help her up.
"Sure, why not?" she said after taking Hunters hand and joining the other two leaving Diana and Alex alone.
"Aren't you going to join them?" Diana asked him curiously.
"Aren't you?" he responded asking her the same question.
"I don't feel like it," she replied.
"Then I'll just stay and keep you company," he announced.
Diana just surpressed a smile before looking out at the setting sun its light setting a crimson glow over the forest. After a while of just sitting there in silence, she took off her satchel leaving it on the side.
"Diana," Alex said gaining her attention, she turned her head which was resting on her knees to look at him waiting for him to continue. "Why did you help me earlier today you could have just turned a blind eye but you didn't. Instead, you put yourself in danger and helped me, so why? you obviously knew who I was which is why you asked if it was all right if you fought in, my place because you knew I could have handled it, so why?" Alex asked.
"Because I couldn't just stand by and watch when someone could have been hurt, not if I could do something about it, that's why I helped you today Alex." Diana answered truthfully "Can I ask you a question?'
"Sure, go ahead." Alex replied.
"Why did you choose me a stranger you just met to be your personal knight, when you already had so many people from your own kingdom who could have been your personal knight, so why me?" Diana asked.
"I guess because there's something about you that just, I don't know fits." He answered a little embarrassed by this time the others had exhausted themselves with dancing and were just beginning to join the two of them.
"What are you two talking about?" Crystal asked an undeniable hint of mischief in her voice.
"Nothing much," Alex answered.
"Aw, you two are no fun," she pouted which made Diana suppress a giggle.
"Hey, Diana, why do you always wear a hood?" Kylo asked.
"So that no one from here recognises me and alerts my parents,"
"Yeah, but you don't have to wear it with us we're your friends," Crystal began to protest again it's obvious she's a little drunk.
"I know that but there's still the risk of someone seeing me I'll take it off when we reach Fortis." Diana assured.
"But that's at least two days away," Crystal still protested.
"Stop bothering her Crystal," Maddy scolded her.
"Fine," Crystal obliged in exasperation. They continued on with their conversation long after the moon began to rise well Alex and Diana just mainly sat there listening and before long Crystal and Maddy were both asleep leaning on each of Diana's shoulders.
"It seems those two are out cold," Kylo pointed out.
"Yeah, guess your right well it's good their getting some sleep we have to start heading back tomorrow," Hunter said with a soft smile as he looked at the two sleeping girls.
"Really? We have to go back so soon," Kylo moaned.
"Stop moaning we're lucky we got to get away for this long we still have a war to win," Alex scolded.
"Yeah, yeah I know no need to remind me," Kylo said with an exasperated sigh.
"Come on we'll help get them off you, and then we can all get some shut-eye," Alex said standing up the other two moved swiftly after. Kylo picked up Maddy while Hunter took Crystal they laid them down near the fire they made earlier on.
"Come on, you need some rest as well." When Diana looked up, Alex was offering her his hand to help her up. She took it before heading over to the campfire and laying down.
Diana can feel as sleep slowly starts to claim her pulling her into its depths and she slowly fell asleep surrounded by new friends and the comfort that tomorrow they head for Fortis.
