Lanie woke up in an unfamiliar room. She got up and sat. She saw Kieffer suddenly get up from sitting when he saw awake. But she didn't speak nor looked at him. She only looked at the window. Tears streamed down from her eyes as she remembered what she saw from Mark's ring- from his mother's ring. His mother didn't abandon him, she left Mark there at the playground for his safety and for him not to know and see what his mother will do. Until her last breath, she only thought of her son. Her son was playing in the place where she left him. Her heart sank knowing what happened to her and her heart ached more as she remembered how Mark cried when he told her about his mother.
She felt someone wiped her cheeks. She doesn't need to look at who it was. She doesn't need it because she already felt his dark and cold presence. He's always there for her, he's always seeing her in this state. And everytime he saw her like this, he felt like he wanted to protect her and hide her from this cruel world so she would not cry, so she would not be hurting anymore.
"Baby, why are you crying, hmm?" she heard him say softly. And like magic, she felt her body calmed down. He cupped her face and made her look at him. She saw his serious face, she stared at his face like she was memorizing it. She smiled sorrowfully at him and held his hand that was in her right cheek. She held it tightly and placed it on her thighs. She looked at it and played with his fingers.
"The car driver…" she started. "Can you look for him?" she lifted her head and looked at Tyler who was looking at her intensely.
"I will," he said, promising. "But tell me what happened first." Lanie nodded and tapped the bed. Tyler stood up and sat beside her. She is still holding his hand like she doesn't want to let go of it.
"I don't know if you will believe me but I… I can see someone's past when I touch things that belonged to that person. I… I don't know how that happened. I didn't make up things-" she stopped when Tyler made her look at him.
"I am believing in you, okay?" he said looking straight into her eyes. Her heart softened after hearing him say that because for the first time in a long time, someone told her that. "Now, relax and tell me what happened and what you saw."
She breathed heavily then nodded. "Mark, he grabbed my hand and pulled me so I could avoid the lady that was in a hurry. Then, I felt something was pulling me, it was cold and I started to see images like it was being fast forward. Then, I saw what happened to Mark's mother starting when she left Mark at the playground, when she tried to get money and until… the accident." Tyler is seriously listening to her. "And this was not the first time I experienced this. I think I also saw the past of Lieutenant Alvarez's father. It was at Kathy's party, when I grabbed his wrist, I accidentally touched his watch and I saw-" Lanie stopped and bit her lip. "I s-saw his father's past." she said instead. She didn't want to tell what she really saw. She doesn't want to, at least, for now. Tyler nodded at her before patting her head. She was stunned at his actions. She still didn't use Tyler being like this.
"Am I weird? Why am I seeing people's past? Am I bewitched or what?" she asked, slightly panicking. Tyler smirked before shaking his head.
"It's already past 2 o'clock, you didn't eat lunch. Don't think too much, okay? We will find out what is happening to you." he said while tucking her hair behind her ear. He reached the telephone on the bed side table to order their lunch. After the call, he looked at her again.
"You can stay here. Don't work for now. You need rest." he said. Lanie nodded. After a few minutes, their food arrived. They ate together silently. Tyler knew what Lanie saw was still bothering her.
"You can find who was driving that car that day, right?" Lanie asked again.
"I will do my best," he replied. Lanie smiled at him. "I will see if that car still exists." Tyler gestured to take a nap. After making sure that Lanie fell asleep. Tyler left the room and sat on his swivel chair. Kieffer looked at him.
"Can you find a person?" he asked him. He was tapping his fingers on his table. He is always doing it whenever he is thinking.
"Do I look like a lost and found center to you?" he answered sarcastically. Tyler threw a glare at him. Kieffer scoffed.
"Whatever I say, you will make me do it anyway." he sighed. "Who?"
"The driver of the car who hit Mark's mother." Kieffer's eyes widened.
"What? Hit and run? How's his mother?" Tyler stopped tapping his fingers at the table and looked at Kieffer seriously.
"She died and unfortunately, that was 16 years ago. Can you do it?" Kieffer coughed.
"WHAT?! That person, I think, was already dead. That has happened for almost 2 decades!" He exclaimed. Tyler nodded at him. There's a big possibility that he was right.
"I already sent you the plate number. First, find who owned that car, then find that person and that person's relatives." Kieffer messed up his hair before standing up and calling someone.
After the call, he looked at Tyler, "Why are you doing this anyway? That was already in the past. No matter what we do, we still cannot bring them to life."
Tyler looked at him, serious and dangerous, "For their peace… even though it's already late. We need to give them that, Kieffer." he said before looking away. Kieffer sighed and nodded. Before leaving him at his office.
