Chapter 12
Crystal sat on the bed and looked around the bedroom. She still couldn't believe that her grandfather made the decision to investigate, so fast.
Crystal sat on the chair outside on the balcony thinking about everything that has happened. The truth was that she really didn't want to be the queen and even if she was going to be crowned the new dragon queen would she really be happy sitting on a thrown all day long.
"Just what is the dragon queen suppose to be?" Crystal asked out loud. A palace maid came into the room carried a tray of tea and biscuits made the suggestion to Crystal that she could try the royal library.
Crystal found herself walked around the castle. The castle was so big that she kept getting lost several times but eventually with help from the castle guards she finally found the royal library.
She was amazed at the size of the library and started looking for information on the dragons, the elders and the dragon queen. "Why is that the dragon queen is seen as an enemy?" Crystal asked.
"There is many that believe she will bring an end to all that is known." an old lady answered. "Sorry I didn't see you there," Crystal said.
"No worry, many say that the return of the Golsend kingdom will end the world but some say the world deserves it," the old lady said.
"Do you know how the war with the Golsend kingdom started," Crystal asked? "No one knows except those who were present in the royal throne room and as far as I know they are almost all gone." the old lady said.
Crystal took a deep breath and kept looking for information but she didn't find anything on the war with the Golsend kingdom or how to end the war. Crystal went looking for Nylla and Starmist.
"Nylla, do you think your mom will know anything about the war?" Starmist who was listening asked, "Why the sudden interest Crystal?"
Crystal looked at Starmist and said, "I don't want to fight a war that can be prevented Starmist and what exactly should we fight for? How can one person fight the war alone?" Nylla looked at her rider and breathed fire into the air.
"You are truly worthy of being my rider Crystal for what worth does a war exist if there is no purpose for one at all?" Nylla said. "Nothing good has ever come from fighting a war white no purpose," Starmist stated.
The elder dragon Zion came over towards Nylla and asked, "What's wrong young one?" Crystal looked at the old dragon and said, "Why should I fight in a war that has no purpose?" The elder dragon was shocked at Crystal's question.
"Why would you say that the war has no purpose?" Zion said. "One I wasn't there and if I do get involved ill be putting an end to this war no matter the costs, I don't see why it's my problem if no one wants the dragon queen why chose one, to begin with?" Crystal asked the elder dragon.
"You want to know what purpose the dragon queen has?" Zion asked. "Yes well isn't Nylla's mother the dragon's queen? Why do you need me when you already have one?" Crystal asked. Zion looked at Crystal.
"Nylla's mom is only an elder who was chosen to be the dragon queen until another can carry the crown. She's not really the dragon queen." Zion said "She is the dragon queen, you all respect her and do as she says. You do not need a dragon rider that can be crowned queen what you need is someone that can end this war for you, maybe that's were the Golsend kingdom went wrong. One kingdom can't control all the dragons and isn't dragons one of the most powerful creatures out there. Maybe the dragon's powers should be divided among the kingdoms?" Crystal asked.
"Our power is divided among the kingdoms Crystal, that is why every kingdom has at least one elder dragon and yes we do respect Nylla's mother as the queen but she is a dragon there are somethings only a human can do," Zion answered.
"Your making excuses Zion, what exactly is this war about and how can I stop it on my own with more than half the world trying to kill me?" Crystal said getting irritated.
"Crystal you do not understand now but one day you will, your the next dragon queen and that was the elder dragons final decision," Zion said and went away.
"You and the rest of the elder dragons are getting ridiculous Zion. Your avoiding the question instead of answering it. I am not fighting this war for you, you will fight your own war and end it. Why should more people die and for what nothing?" Crystal shouted.
Zion turned around and breathed fire directly at Crystal. Nylla took of and breathed fire at Zion, the two dragons collided and a fight broke out between the two dragons.
Crystal was powerless to stop the dragons at first but could only think of one thing. She focused her power as a rider in her hands and spoke out loud, "nature let me borrow your power and bind this elder dragon to the ground."
Crystal imagined the forest vines binding the elder dragon in mid-air and dragging the dragon down to the ground and walked towards the elder dragon. Crystal opened her eyes and saw that what she imagined really did happen.
"Zion, I am not fighting your war for any reason other than to end it. You dragons already have a queen you do not need another. The kingdom of Golsend is gone, I asked you what is my role as your queen but you do not answer me. What is the need for a queen if you do not fight for your own kind yourselves? What is it that you and the rest of the dragons aren't telling me?" Crystal shouted.
Crystal looked at Nylla who was bleeding and said, "Tell me if Nylla is your future queen why are you trying to kill her?" Crystal was angry and disgusted with the elder dragon.
"Go back to your lair and do not come to me again unless you are willing to answer my questions," Crystal commanded and returned to the dragon stables only to collapse on the floor.
Starmist and Nylla were puzzled for even they didn't know Crystal had the power to command the forest. "What kind of power did Crystal use?" Nylla asked.
"I thought only the elves had that power," Starmist said a guard took Crystal to her room where a doctor was taking care of Crystal and just outside the on the balcony was Nylla and Crystal waiting to see if their rider will be okay."
The doctor was puzzled and didn't understand what was going on either and told the king he couldn't do anything for Crystal. Starmist had decided to go and asked Mira if she knew what happened and left to find the Alicorn but she was surprised to find the mystical council arriving just as she was about to leave.
"Starmist what has happened here," Mira asked. "It's Crystal she has collapsed after using new power to end a fight between Nylla and an elder dragon.
I didn't know she had the power of the forest that enables her to bind an elder dragon. She collapsed as soon as the elder returned to his lair.
The doctors can't help her " Starmist said. "That's impossible only us elves can use the power of the forest." the elve elder said.
"Elders please be aware you were right to send me to Crystals side, there is more to this war that we know and the dragon elders isn't clear about what this war is about either," Starmist said. She looked towards Nylla who was still waiting for news on her rider.
"We believe that they are keeping information from us for we do not understand why they need a human dragon queen when they already have a dragon queen. Also, the elder dragons Forest and Rose were captured by the kingdom of Borus, " Starmist said.
"We fooled them into thinking we're heading for the kingdom of Golsend but came here instead and the last thing I need to inform you is that we couldn't find the resistance but the king, Crystals grandfather said, he was expecting her father but we do not know when he would be arriving," Starmist said.
The mystical council looked at one another and it was the dragon elder who answered, "I suspected more was going on but I didn't expect it to get this bad so fast," Nylla came towards the elder and said, "I only fought that elder for he tried to kill my rider but I do agree with Crystal on one thing, do we dragons really need a human to be our dragon queen? I mean why was she chosen as the dragon queen isn't my mother enough?" Nylla asked.
"Nylla you are a strong dragon if you can fight an elder dragon at your age that is already proof that you are strong and that you are indeed a descendent of the queen of dragons, to answer your question, even I do not know why a dragon queen who is human is needed."
