Obstacles: Facing and Overcoming it

We are people with dreams and goals in life. We face people with a smiling face like we have no problems, but in life, it's not just happy times, even when reaching for our dreams and goals in life, we will face hardships or what we call obstacles. Obstacles are something that makes it difficult to do something or blocks your path. We face obstacles, in life, when facing our dreams and some dreams are not easy to achieve, you need to shed blood, sweat, and tears, achieving your goals in life can be a bumpy ride, but it's so good if you will overcome it and just like smooth sailing to you if you will achieve overcoming it. Life has its ups and downs. It's not that easy. It's not a rolling stone as if you are a happy-go-lucky person.

As a student, we face lots of obstacles. We might feel sadness, anger, and all the emotions we might experience during the process, and this could disrupt when overcoming obstacles. It's normal to feel that way because sometimes it makes us frustrated but does not think of giving up. Giving up is like giving up all your dreams and goals. Giving up is not the best decision because it only means that you are weak, but some person does not define giving up as weak, but, they just can't handle the hardships. I've experienced a lot of obstacles in my life as a student. In Senior High School (grade 12), making a thesis is the worst because you have a lack of sleep, and all your members are struggling, but for me, I'm not good at making a thesis, but I managed to find ways on how to make it. We defended it in front of the principal and our teachers, they approved it, and when we're done defending our side, it feels great and I can breathe calmly because it's done and I graduated from Senior High with flying colors, but not all obstacles have the meaning "not giving up" there are times that we need to give up because of some particular reasons. When I was in 1st-year college, I studied Industrial Engineering. My goal is to become an engineer someday, but things got complicated, I face lots of obstacles in the process, I heard voices in my head saying I should give up, I made a self-assessment of myself and I've come to a decision that I would give up engineering because it's not good if I continue, it's not good in my mental health because I say a lot of negative thoughts already, I cannot take it anymore that's why I decided to give up and shift to another course. Now, I'm fulfilling my decision of becoming a Psychometrician and hopefully become a Psychologist one day, in God's plan.

When facing obstacles, you need to:

· Accept your emotions. It's normal to feel emotions, but accepting it is good. Just unwind, go to a place where you can soothe all your emotions. This method is to let your emotions stop you from doing anything bad and negative.

· Acceptance. We have goals, but we need to accept facing obstacles in the process.

· Think of possibilities. Sometimes our mind would tell us to quit or do something that is not good but think of ways that would beat those negativities.

· Seek meaning. When facing difficulties, seek meaning you can question yourself and think that there's a meaning to your obstacles.

· Asking for the opinion of others. It's good because you are open in telling your obstacles to others, and maybe by telling it to them, that can help you in overcoming it.

· One step at a time. Facing obstacles, it's not that you will achieve it immediately, you will go to the top, but take one step at a time, slowly overcome it, it's like walking a staircase, step-by-step.

· Tell yourself that mistakes are normal

· Re-evaluate. Sometimes we might change our plans, but it's good because you have another caught up in mind, which is better than the first one.

When facing obstacles, we need also to take care of our mental health because it's connected. Some people are having a hard time coping up and overcoming it that they can't control their emotions, and that could lead to a mental disorder, and we don't want that to happen. They develop a mental disorder probably because they can't handle the frustrations and hardships. Some have suicidal thoughts already. It's best if they would try to open up with other people. I think it would be good. Their parents should monitor them, ask them how their day today was. Mental health has a large impact, mostly on teenagers today because of stress, anxieties, and pressure, but just remind yourself all the time to not give up and be positive all the time.

Some people see their obstacles as a stepping stone towards success. Just take one step at a time, slowly but surely, and it's like a staircase for them to step on level 1 up to their goals and achievements in life.

Obstacles are in our nature. We face it in our lives, we need it because life does not just up, and we need downs to go up. Accepting failures and mistakes are important also in our emotions, and also accept that there are obstacles that we might face when it comes to achieving our goals. Do not be taunted by fear because fear can also disrupt our dreams. It also blocks our path in achieving it. It's ok to face obstacles on your own, but don't hesitate to seek guidance from others. Be open to them. Obstacles are just challenges in our life. We need to face it and overcome it.
