Anxiety

A feeling of being anxious about something, a normal emotion, but it may become a medical disorder and can be part of mental illness. Anxiety is a normal feeling. When you get nervous, worried, and have fear of something. Don't worry too much because if you will, you can have panic attacks and many more. It's just an emotion, but it can be treated if you want it to be treated, with the help of a Psychiatrist. According to the American Psychological Association (APA), they define anxiety as "an emotion characterized by feelings of tension, worried thoughts, and physical changes like increased blood pressure"

There are types of anxiety disorders, and these are:

· Panic disorder

· Social anxiety disorder

· Specific phobias

· Generalized anxiety disorder

When you have panic disorder, it triggers randomly or most of the time. You feel fast heart beating or palpitations, sometimes you feel pain in your heart, and choking. I suffered from panic attacks most of the time. It triggers because whenever I feel that the world around me is shaking, like an earthquake, because I'm afraid of calamities, I'm scared of what will happen. The worst panic attack that I've experienced is when I'm scared and nervous because of some situation, I felt dizzy, and like my vision is becoming blurry and pitch black. Lately, I got panic attacks, but I managed to enlighten and encourage myself that everything will be all right and nothing to be afraid of.

We teenagers feel social anxiety because of social media and what's happening around us, in your social life because you are conscious of yourself. For example, when you are walking, and it is the first day of school, you feel nervous, and anxiety will take over because you are thinking of what the people would say about you or something. Just a piece of advice, don't worry about what others think about you, worry about yourself, focus on yourself more, don't listen to others, and ignore them.

Specific phobias are those phobias that you are afraid of, like fear of heights, the dark, or water. When you have those kinds of phobias, you feel fear crept into your system, maybe because when you did those things, it does not go to plan or something bad happened to you when doing those things. For me, if I were you, I will conquer my fears because maybe by doing that, you will never be afraid and have phobias again.

Generalized anxiety disorder, for me, is the most intense because you feel fear for no reason, you're worried over unrealistic situations, and these kinds of anxiety are not good because it can harm your mental health, and you should probably see a Psychiatrist to be treated.

Whenever anxieties will take over me, I feel:

· Nervous

· Heart raising/ palpitates abnormally

· Sweats

· Dizziness

· Short of breathe

· Sleep problems

· Not able to stay calm

· Panic attacks and fear

Anxiety is a no joke because it's hard. For me, it's hard to overcome it. After all, your body and brain are working together to feel that uneasiness, like you, cannot control to stop feeling those kinds of feelings because it will attack most of the time, even researchers don't know exactly about this disorder. Some say that it's all in our heads, but they don't understand us, maybe because they did not suffer from it, but I admit that it's all in our heads, it's just a matter of calming yourself. I think meditation is great because you feel relaxed when doing it. All I can advise is, stay calm, say to yourself that everything will be all right, you can talk to your friends and family, open up to them because I know that can help you feel at ease, or you can go to a Psychiatrist and be treated. I know treating takes lots of time, but cooperate, for you to feel better.

Remember that anxieties are silent because it will just attack our minds and bodies, they may say that we are calm, but the truth is, not really. Overthinking things is also anxiety for me because when you overthink, you feel worried about something. Encourage yourself that everything will go back to normal. I know that we can overcome it step-by-step. Anxieties will not vanish from us, we may feel it every day, but we can endure and overcome it.
