This argument grew from nowhere into an outrage. In my rage, I was blind to her, to the graceful parts of her heart. I assumed I was right when I had no reason to. The words she spoke with such intentioned purity triggered something inside of me that came from fear. The words that calmed her, scared me. The words that calmed me, scared her. We were opponents, suddenly blind to each other's good hearts and building walls instead of bridges.  
She stood up, and ran out. It all felt like a sudden daydream, her eyes looking back at me so glassy, so anxious, and I felt paralyzed. I put the drink on my mouth and finished it again. I heard the barkeeper coming back and ordered another one. I hated it when again, she had to think about if she still loved me.

We just looked at each other for a moment. Taylor's eyes expressed a somewhat confused and concerned look, while Sofia still resembled fear. I was somewhat in-between – not only unsure about what had happened, but my heart ached as I saw Sofia's fearful eyes. What did she mean by that? Did she mean that she could not remember anything? Or just anything that had happened since we entered this hell house? Who had taken her? 


But all of my questions vanished when the fear in her eyes was replaced by pain. I had seen, heard, smelled and felt pain before, but the way Sofia looked at me now was nothing like feeling it yourself – seeing your family suffer broke you in ways that were harder to bear.
