Renee had thought about Jesse's comment all the way back to the house. She knew their fake ID's had them listed as a married couple, but they weren't actually married. Why would she need a wedding ring after all this time? She had to admit to herself that she would have liked to have gotten married one day, but now, she knew she wouldn't. She had hoped that one day Kevin would propose, but he hadn't. She had seriously thought he was going to do it on their anniversary, but Jesse had ruined that. She sighed as she started putting away all of the things that had been bought today.
Jesse hadn't given her the necklace she had seen him get. What had he bought it for? Jesse came into the room and saw her putting all of the things away. He had told her that he had a surprise for her so why wasn't she getting ready? He stopped her as she went to put the dresses away.
"I got you all of this stuff as part of the surprise. I'd like you to wear that dress you had on earlier. Use the other stuff, too. We are going to drop Christian off on the way out. I'll get ready to go and then watch Christian while you get ready."
"Um, okay," Renee said as she laid the dress on the bed.
She got in the shower and then sat on the bed for a few minutes looking at all of the stuff Jesse had bought. She was going to doll herself up for the first time in over two years. She bit her lip as she looked at the dress and thought about what makeup to wear. She finally decided to wear a deep blue color and a smoky looking gray on her eyes. She applied eyeliner and mascara. Then she looked at the two lipsticks she had. She finally settled on the red wine color and applied it.
She took her hair and twisted it and then put a clip on it. There were a few tendrils hanging down on her neck. The rest was hanging over the clip so it looked wavy as it dried. She looked at herself in the mirror and was shocked. She looked like a completely different person. She didn't know why, but she felt nervous as she stepped out of the bedroom and into the living room where Jesse was playing with Christian.
Jesse looked up when he heard Renee come into the living room. He leaned back against the couch as he was sitting on the floor with Christian. He started at her feet and made his way up to her face, then he made his way back down again. When his eyes came back up to her face, he saw she was blushing, but she also had a small but embarrassed smile on her face. It was cute and he liked that him looking at her had made her do it. He found he didn't want to go out tonight, but stay in and slowly strip her of the dress.
Jesse stood up and Renee got to see what he was wearing. He had on a navy blue dress shirt and navy blue slacks. His hair was slicked back. He really was a good looking man. The navy blue set off the blue in his eyes, making it more pronounced. He walked up to her and went to kiss her. She put her hand up in front of his face to stop him.
"You'll ruin my lipstick."
"I don't care. You can reapply it," Jesse said as he kissed her long and deep.
A little bit of lipstick got on his lips and Renee wiped it off and went and reapplied her lipstick, making sure that it wasn't smeared. Jesse came up and she saw him in the mirror as his hands came around the sides of her face. She wondered what he was doing at first until she felt the necklace settle on her chest. She looked down and saw the cross she had been eyeing earlier. Jesse kissed her neck as his hands slid around her waist. Renee felt a blush creep up her neck as she saw the look in his eyes in the mirror.
She cleared her throat and said, "We should get going."
Jesse sighed and said, "Yeah, if I actually want to carry through with your surprise instead of undressing you here and now, we should."
He kissed her cheek and walked out of the room, gathering Christian. As they rode down the road, Renee started to recognize the area. They were going to Nancy and Greg's house or at least somewhere in that area. Jesse worked with Greg and Renee had gotten along with Nancy. They had two kids, aged 8 and 5. Nancy had an affection for Christian and always spoiled him when they were over.
When Jesse pulled into their driveway, Renee realized who the woman was that was watching Christian for them. They walked up to the door and Jesse knocked on it. Nancy answered the door and smiled when she saw them. Renee was nervous about leaving Christian with Nancy and Greg. It wasn't that she thought they would mistreat him, but she had never left him anywhere before.
"Hey, guys! You finally came to drop Christian off," Nancy smiled.
"Yes," Jesse said as he handed Christian's car seat to Nancy.
"Wait. I need to tell him bye first," Renee said as she took Christian out of his car seat.
"You poor thing. Is this the first time you have left him with someone?" Nancy asked.
"Yes. How did you know?"
"I remember that look. I had the exact same one the first time I dropped Matthew off with a babysitter. I was nervous the whole night and kept calling the sitter. I drove her nuts, but I promise you that Christian won't want for anything tonight."
Renee held Christian in her arms as he played with her necklace. She smiled at him and kissed his head. Her heart felt like it was being squeezed as she handed him over to Nancy. Jesse placed his hand on the small of her back and turned her to leave as he thanked Nancy. He opened the car door for her and she got in, still looking at the door as Nancy waved bye to them.
