7. Chemistry

In the counsellor's office

'That sneaky little girl. I can't believe I let my guard down and actually decided to trust her. I entrusted her with something that was happening to me. Something only one other person knows... and she broke my trust.' I think to myself.

"Amira. I know you must be feeling upset with your friend for breaking your trust. But she only did this because she has your best interest at heart."

"Upset is not what I'm feeling. Rage is what I'm feeling. And if she cared about me, she would've respected me enough to ask me if I wanted any help."

"So you do admit you need help."

"I am not admitting to anything. This matter is personal. Besides you don't even know the full story to conclude that I need any help Miss ." I say looking her directly in the eye.

"You can call me Donna. I don't mind it at all. Also you are right. You are the only one who knows what is really happening to you, so maybe you should explain it to me so I don't read into things."

Annoyed I place my hands on her table facing her directly so she knows I mean what I'm about tell her.

"Look Donna. I do not care what you or anyone else thinks. I do not share information about myself with people I do not trust."

"I just knew I wouldn't be able to meet people who I could trust when I came here." I mumble to myself. "You know what I'm done. No one said I couldn't leave when I wanted to." I get my bag and leave her office angrily.

Immediately I leave, I bump into someone.

"Gosh I can't just catch a break." I yell.

"Woah. Someone is definitely having a bad day."

"Charlie." I whisper once I recognize the voice.

"Is everything okay?" he asks looking concerned. I honestly can't believe that he is genuinely concerned about me, especially after what just occurred.

"I'm grand." I say with a fake smile.

"You have no idea I used to I am with fake smiles. You can't pretend in front of me, but if you don't want to talk about it. I completely understand. But I'm still going to walk you to lunch."

I stare at him surprised. 'I'm still not letting my guard down. There are two people I trust completely with my life, and one of them is dead... I think."

"I need to drop my stuff in my locker." I say to him

"Sure." he says giving me a small smile.

After dropping my books in my locker and getting to the cafeteria. We get our lunch and I don't see Sam anywhere, which I'm glad about.

"Hey is it okay if I sit with you guys?"

"Of course." He replies smiling.

I notice him looking at my hands.

"What?"

"You're not very hungry today." He says

"Yup." I say, then walk forward.

He catches up to me, then puts one of his hands around my shoulder pushing me out of the cafeteria gently.

"Where are we going?" I ask curiously, with a weird face on.

"We don't eat in the cafeteria on Wednesdays." I look at him confused.

He replies saying "The meat."

"That... is a weird thing to say."

He laughs at my comment.

"We eat on the field."

"Like a picnic?" I say in a question

He looks at me and smiles. "Yeah."

I look back at him and smile, but somethings weird about it.

It reminds me of when Jonathan basically did the same thing and it felt familiar. I felt a draw towards him. It was like I could hear a voice inside me saying 'go closer'. But with Charlie, it's completely normal. It just feels nice to be noticed, but it doesn't feel like earlier.

******************************

We get to the field and see Charlie's friends talking and laughing. Weirdly enough Jonathan is the first person to look up. We lock eyes. And let me tell you it's both comfortable and uncomfortable. I look away because I really am not in the mood to start weird conversations with myself.

"Yo." Charlie says to his friends nodding his head in a greeting manner.

"Yoooo What's going on? Sebastian asks. Obviously I know it's about me.

"I don't wanna eat alone." I say blandly taking a seat in between Charlie and some girl.

"What your friend, Samantha?" Roland asks

I twist my head to the side and stare at him suspiciously before answering. "What about her?"

"I mean, aren't you two friends?" he asks

"So many questions. I haven't introduced myself to the girls yet. I'm Amira and I do have friends, but they don't go here." I say the last part looking at Roland.

"I'm Rachel." I turn to look in front of me. It's the same girl I saw earlier. I'm quite stereotypical and I can already tell the character she plays in my story. We are not going to be friends. I smile at her thinking to myself that things are suddenly going to be interesting. She's looking at me with a sudden interest and I can tell, she's a fuckin mind reader. I like her.

"I'm Jaslene." the girl beside me says "And that's Dwight." she points to the girl in between Rachel and Colton.

"Cool. Pretty names" I then take a bite out my apple.

"How come you got into the school last minute?" Rachel asks

"Is it last minute?" I blink continuously

"Do you always answer questions with questions?" Jonathan asks me this time.

I laugh, well because it's funny. "No, not all the time." I say with a smile on my face.

"For the answer to your question Rachel. According to the woman who gave birth to me, I need some straightening up. I think coming here was supposed to be a punishment for me. And I sincerely think the punishment is working." I take another bite out of my apple.

"That's exactly how Colton's parents felt after he tried to hijack a car." Jaslene says

Everyone breaks into laughter.

"How did you all become friends?" I asks them.

"Our parents sort of know each other." Dwight finally says something.

"Wow that's... wow. If my parents knew the parents of my friends back home, she would've sent me here a looong time ago."

"What are your parents names. Maybe we know them." Rachel says

"Nah don't think you do."

"Try us. We know a lot of people. she insists.

I put my hands up in surrender. " Fine. Anne and Thomas."

They all have their mouths open.

I look around at them and all just seem surprised. "What?." I chuckle confused "What do you guys know them or not?"

Charlie turns completely to face me. "Amira what's your surname again?" he asks me

"Dermas. Why?" I ask him.

I notice him swallow deeply. I look at them again and they are even more shocked than before.

"Okay what's going on? Do you know them? Did you guys know my dad?"

I hear someone clear their throat. "Uh no, no. The name just sounds familiar." Jonathan says

"Familiar?" I squint my eyes in confusion.

"Uh yeah. My dad had a friend with almost the same name." he says silently

"Had?" I ask raising a brow

"Yeah." He says looking directly at me.

I look at them one more time, before deciding they knew something, but don't want to talk about it. And honestly neither do I.

"Alright. Whatever you say."

Before anyone could say anything, a familiar came ringing in our ears, calling out my name.

I sigh, cause I know who it is. Weirdly enough I could smell her, before she got to where we were sitting.

"Amira hi. I've been looking around for you." Samantha says

I roll my eyes without responding.

"Look I just wanted to say I'm sorry about what I did."

I turn my dark merciless face to her. She looks terrified. I chuckle 'How cute.'

"You're right I shouldn't have done that. It wasn't in my place. You trusted me with something and I betrayed your trust."

"I honestly don't want to listen to any crap that comes out of your mouth.' I say with my eyes closed "So just get out please." I open my eyes and face her with a deadpanned look.

She sighs, before saying something again. "Before I go. Someone has been calling. It says Steven." she drops my phone on the grass before leaving.

My eyes widen hearing her. I pick up my phone and look at it with a surprised, yet happy look. Then I dial his number back.

I give Jonathan one last look, before standing up to say bye. "Thanks for letting me have lunch with you guys. I'll see you later Char." I smile at him then leave.

"Hey." I hear from my phone.

"Hey." I smile as I walk away. "What's up? Why did you call?" still smiling.

Can't I call to see how you're doing." I roll my eyes. "Don't you dare roll your eyes at me." he says knowing me.

I laugh. Once I get to the end of the bleachers, I take a seat.

"Seriously Steven, why did you call? You never call."

"That is so not true." he argues.

"Do you really want to start with me?" I ask. I could feel someone's eyes on me. Like they could hear my conversation.

"Fine I actually have a reason for calling." he gives up.

"I'm listening."

"It's about Mia."

"What? What happened? Is she okay?"

"She's fine. Calm down."

I sigh in relief.

"Gosh if only you could love me the same way you love my sister." he says

I laugh a little, finding this a little humorous and a little painful, because I did love him. But I honestly can't go into that right now.

"Please just shut up and go on."

"Right so, you remember Josh right?"

"Josh?..." I think for a bit before remembering who he is. "Oh yeah Mia's cute boyfriend."

"He really isn't that cute." he says with a dead panned voice.

"Still jealous?" I say smiling.

"Stop flirting and listen. He proposed to her and she said yes."

"What?!! Oh my gosh that's great news. When's the wedding?"

"December. She wants you to come" I hear some shuffling from his side.

I don't say anything yet.

"You gotta come." he says with a low voice.

"You gonna be there?" I ask him

"It's Mia's wedding."

I look up since I still feel the person's eyes on me. It's Jonathan. He doesn't even look away. He stays that way... staring. It's intense. It's like he is waiting for me to give an answer.

"Okay I'll come." I say, then look away from him. "But only if it's during the holiday. I'm not missing school."

"Alright nerd." I could totally picture him smiling.

I roll my eyes and shake my head. "Don't roll your eyes at me." I hear him say.

I laugh out loud, then lie down on the seat.

"Can't wait."

"Hmm. I should go. Lunch is over."

"Okay. See you soon." he whispers

"See you soon." I whisper back

I end the phone call and took a deep breath. I don't get up. I just lay there, resting my right hand on my face, while raising one leg up.

I finally get up and walk away, but not before noticing something strange I hadn't noticed before. Behind me looked like a cave covered with flowers. It looked just like the on in my dreams, weirdly enough. Well ever since I got to this school, strange things have been happening.

I want to go there, but I hear Jonathan calling my name. I turn around immediately, feeling something in me leap. At this rate nothing fazes me anymore.

I see him coming towards me, so I walk to him.

Before he can say anything. I ask him why he was staring at me.

"I wasn't staring." he denies

I scoff and start walking away. "Whatever. Don't do that again. It's creepy. What do you want?"

"We need to talk about chemistry."

I look at him side ways.

"We need to discuss when we are going to be free and how long we can work together."

"Give me your phone." I say, stretching my right hand to his side.

"What?" he says confused.

I don't say anything. I just give him a look.

"Fine. Here it is." I feel his finger brush against palm when he places the phone in it. I don't say anything or make a reaction. Things are already awkward.

I put my number in it. "That's my number. You can text me your schedule. I'll send mine too. Then you can tell me your terms or whatever. I don't really care. Okay?" I say once we get to the entrance of the school building.

"Okay." he replies standing by the door.

He doesn't say anything or leave. He just keeps looking at me. 'Damn! I must be stupid gorgeous. This dude cannot keep his eyes of me.'

"I wasn't staring!." I hear him say

I chuckle "Bye."

"Bye."

'Well that was weird.' I think to myself as I walk away.

**AUTHOR'S NOTE**

This chapter took too long. Sorry about that. Anyway here it is. Let me know if you liked it. I really enjoyed writing it. This is definitely one of my favorite chapters so far.

1. What do you guys think about Sam, betraying Amira's trust?

2. Do you guys think Amira is being too harsh?

3.What do you guys think of the new characters? And what about their reaction when they heard about Amira's dad. What do you think that was all about?

I'll put up a picture of Mia soon. I don't know her character should be. You guys can give me suggestions. She's not that important really. She is going to come up maybe twice in the whole book.

Anyway don't forget to vote and comment. Thanks.
