9. HIS POV

AUTHOR'S NOTE

I have decided to make Jonathan's point of view, because we don't really know much about him. I might do this round the book, making pov's of other characters. I have not decided yet, but I feel it is important we know Jonathan's story and why he is the way he is.

Jonathan's Pov…

The visiting day is coming soon, since we don't have a midterm like other schools. I know my dad's going to come. I am glad about that, except that Miss Leah our chemistry has been trying some crazy stunts. She thinks she can flirt her way to my dad's heart. Everyone knows the reason my dad is deteriorating. Ever since the last war between the packs and the rogues, things haven't really been the same.

I don't blame him. I mean I don't really understand what it feels like to have a mate, but what I do know is when a mate dies, the other would never be the same. Things are worse since my dad is the alpha of his pack. He has duties, but he just can't seem to concentrate these days. It seems like his health is getting worse. His mental health is affecting his physical stamina.

I guess the only reason he is still living is because of me. I am his only child after all. I wish I knew how to help him, but I don't and it makes me crazy. I've decided that the sorcerers might know something. Some of them are scholars. They know everything about our species, so they might know what to tell me. I told my dad about my idea one time but he told me not to do that. He said it will only distract me.

For now he just wants me to do well in school and perform duties for the pack. One of the things I love about being a werewolf is the training week. All the packs we know come to the pack house.

All the packs we know including my pack, have at least ten wolves in it. Things are a bit different when it comes to us werewolves and wolves. For us, the Luna Goddess or Moon Goddess chooses the alpha. Once she chooses who the alpha of a certain pack is going to be, no one else can come against it. Her word is the law. Although she allows us to throw a feast in the name of the alphas. On that day, pack members are allowed to challenge the alpha. If the alpha wins, he remains. If not he loses his title and ranking as the alpha.

Some times when this happens the former alpha becomes a lone wolf.

Also our mates are predestined. Once chosen by the Luna Goddess, we have to stick to them forever. A bit selfish right, but I guess she did that so we don't too many cubs and have over population. We don't want the humans knowing we exist. If that happens we would be extinct. Humans experiment what they don't understand and kill what they can't control. So for centuries we've kept our secret safe.

The alpha and beta are not the only ones who can mate and have cubs. Asides from not wanting to over populate, the Luna Goddess thought it was best if we all had cubs of our own. For centuries she observed that the other females were jealous of the mates of the alpha and beta. She decided we can have cubs, but only one to three cubs. After she declared this law, all the female werewolves praised her name for years and even made a day every year to celebrate and praise the Goddess.

According to history she was happiest in those years.

Anyway, once all the packs come to the pack house, we have all sorts of competitions. We go hunting for boars. We have wrestling competitions, to test our strengths without having to turn. This is the one Cole looks forward to every six months. We also test our speed. That's the one Charlie looks forward too. He's really fast.

The winners of the competitions are given titles. Knowing you have won a competition and are given a title, you know you are steps closer to becoming one of the high ranks in the pack. However, only people who have earned the right to the ranks can have those positions. Besides, until the moon goddess and the council decide they are worthy, only then can they be placed in those positions.

***********

Anyway, I'm currently on the football field. The team is practicing for an upcoming game. At this point I don't know why the other schools bother. We always win. I mean you think they learn after all the games we've played against them. More than half of our team are werewolves.

Right now were just running laps on our 400mm field. I'm about to go for the second lap when, Cole nudges me to look ahead. It's Rachel and the girls.

"Your girlfriend is here to cheer you on." he says is a really weird way.

"Shut the hell up man."

When I look ahead again. I notice someone else. There's someone else behind them.

Its Amira.

My senses quicken. My wolf is calling out. 'Khal would you calm down. What the hell has been wrong with you lately.' I communicate with him.

'Mate. Mate!' Once he says that. I stop. I just freeze staring at her as she walks by without noticing me. Her hair flowing with the wind, she looks annoyed trying to push her hair away from her face, but she actually looks really cute.

'What do you mean by mate Khal. This isn't funny.'

'Does it look like I'm joking. She's our mate.'

'But we don't even know if she is like us.'

'Oh please you know. The minute she mentioned her dad, you knew. Besides, we have feelings for her, so whatever.'

Woah hold up there Khal. There's no we. You speak for yourself I have a girlfriend. And Charlie likes her.' I tell him

Ugh I don't know why you're still with Rachel. She is not your mate and you're not even in love with her. And don't even bring Charlie into this. You know if we tell him she's your mate, he would back off.'

He's right. I'm not in love with Rachel. I think the only reason I'm with her is because our families are so close. We've known each other since we were kids. I did like her at first, but I couldn't bring myself to break up with her. I've become so used to her. She's like my security blanket.

This does not mean I do not care for her. If anyone tried to hurt her, I would rip their throat out. She is still family no matter what.

"Hey Coleman! Move it." I hear the coach yell.

'We'll discuss this later Khal.'

***An hour later***

We're done practicing. Throughout practice I couldn't focus. I kept on stealing glances at her. She looks so peaceful. She keeps looking to her right then looking back down at her note book. It's a sketch pad.

She's an artist.

The boys and I go to the bleachers to catch our breaths. I still can't keep my eyes off her. She looks perfect. I notice she's looking at the entrance our secret hide out.

How does she know about it? Why is she drawing it?

"Jonathan!" I hear my name being yelled out.

Immediately she looks up, catching me stare at her like the many other times she's caught me.

I look away immediately trying to focus on the guy talking to me.

"What?" I ask

He sighs before speaking again. "The principal wants you."

I nod, wiping my face with my face towel.

Roland taps me. What do you think he wants?"

I shrug not knowing. I know I'm not in trouble, so it must be something else. Maybe pack details.

I splash water on my face from my bottle, take my bag, then take my leave.

I can feel her eyes on me. I smirk feeling good that I'm not the only one staring now.

I get to his office to meet the secretary. She lets me in.

"Mr Brown. You want me?"

"Yes Jonathan. Sit down please."

I take a seat making myself comfortable.

He sighs before speaking.

"Is everything okay?" I ask him.

The principal is also part of the pack. He doesn't really do much. He is good managerial things, so he was basically handed the position of principal, to oversee the students. He makes sure we are trained educationally and physically for any rogue attack.

"What I wanted to discuss with you is about Amira Dermas."

Once he says that, my heart begins to quicken involuntarily. I don't say anything.

"Her father is Thomas Dermas."

I'm speechless. I mean I had a feeling, but confirming it now is something else.

She is my mate, and she doesn't know.

I clench my jaw.

"She may have mentioned it." I say.

"Hmm." he says "She doesn't know anything about her true identity." he continues

"Sir I don't really understand where you're going with this."

"I have recently had a meeting with the council, and they have confirmed that you are mated."

I roll my eyes. So much for privacy.

"We need someone to break it to her."

"And you think I'm the best person to do this?" I ask him

"Yes."

"With all due respect. I decline."

"Excuse me?"

"I can't do it. We aren't that close, besides I think her family should do it. This shouldn't be something the school should be involved with. Her mother should be the one breaking the news to her. If I do it, she won't believe me. She'll think I'm crazy." I say

He takes a deep breath, taking in what I just said.

"You're right. Her and her mother are not very close either, so I just thought since you're mates and are teenagers, you might know how to approach her, but it's alright. I will still need you to be there when the news is being broken to her. She will need someone to convince her, when she thinks her mother is crazy. She doesn't have a choice anyway, but to accept her. It's her fate." he says

"Okay no problem. I'm going to take my leave now."

He nods his head.

Once I get to my room, I seat on my bed for a while thinking. How is she just supposed to accept something this huge. I mean if it were me, I wouldn't. I'm very practical so that would sound really crazy.

This is happening to quickly for her. I mean don't get why they just didn't let her grow with it like the rest of us did. It doesn't make sense.

There has to more to it. My dad always says 'sometimes when adults make decisions that seem like they don't make sense, we should just try and understand it is to protect us.'

For this situation, I call it bull. Amira is going to be broken when she finds the truth about everything, especially her dad's true identity and when her dad actually died.

I shake my head not wanting to think about it anymore. I change into my towel, when Charlie comes into the room.

"Hey man." I say

"Hey. What did Brown want."

"Uh nothing."

"Then why did he want to see you?"

"Just wanted to check in, you know as usual."

"Your dad should really just call instead."

I chuckled a little feeling really uncomfortable. "Hey what would you do if Amira was actually like us and had found her mate?" I ask him curious.

He stops taking off his shoes to look at me. "I... why are you asking?"

I gulp, shaking my head. "Nothing just curious. You're my friend. I need to know if you're going to be okay if that happens."

I shouldn't have gulped. He knows me too well.

"Well what will you do?"

"I don't know man. There'll be nothing I could do right. I wouldn't be her mate, so I'll just have to wait for mine." he says taking off his shoes.

I nod. "Would you hate the guy?"

"Only if he is a dick. Then yes I would. She needs someone that's sustainable. Someone who's not going to choose a lifestyle over her, especially after..." he stops looking at me.

"After what?" I ask

"Nothing." he says clearing his throat.

I guess we're both lying to each other then. Whatever.

"Okay." I say walking to the bathroom.

What do you guys think of this chapter? Did you like his pov?

I genuinely feel like I didn't do a good job on it. I might re-write it another time, but for now I'll let you guys read it.
