"Is everything ok?" He asked as he came around me.
I made my way to the lunch table and said "Yeah and what about your car?"
Josh took a bite from his apple and said "It was the battery and it's already fixed."
"I'm glad." I said as I came to a stop. Josh said "After, school do you want to meet up?"
My eyes lit up as I loved how he had something in mind and my eyes wondered away.
"I have something in mind. If you don't mind?" He said smirking.
I couldn't resist smiling off the floor as I glanced back at him. "I know you do."
He smiled away and I said "Let me get home and see, if I can."
Josh nodded his head and said "Perfect!"
We departed from eachother and took our seats. Once, in awhile when I took a bite from my hamburger he was already gazing at me. Suddenly, he would start smiling at me and I couldn't resist in laughing. He just made me so happy by just looking at me. I felt like he was the defintion of laughter and joy. I just wanted to be with him all day if I could. Honestly, I couldn't wait for summer to hang out with him all day and night, if I could.
"Wren!" Josh shouted my name in the hallway.
I turned around dumbfounded and asked "Are you ok?"
Josh said "My dad needs me. So, I won't be able to take you home."
"Oh! That's ok. Don't worry about it. Most times I take the bus." I told him.
"I wanted to take you home, though." He said looking kind of upset.
I frowned my eyebrows and asked "I thought you wanted to ride the bus like the rest of us?"
Josh sighed and said "I know, now. I like it but..."
"But what?" I asked trying to understand him.
Josh rubbed the back of his neck and it reminded me that he didn't sleep well. He blushed and said "I love it when it's just you and me. Nobody else just you and me. The bus is way different because I spend less time with you. I don't know why but I just want to spend every second with you. It's like every second that passes by it makes me anxious when you're not by my side. When we're together I don't want you to go. Us in the car with music is what I live for."
I laughed and said "You're so funny."
Josh shouted in excitement "I'm serious!"
I got really serious and said "I have to tell you something."
Josh frowned and asked "What?"
I raised an eyebrow how low his face expression got in seconds. "I'm moving." I simply just said.
Josh looked at me shocked and said "WHAT?! Are you serious?! I'm moving wherever you go."
I gazed at him surprised and said "What?! Are you crazy?"
Josh didn't hesitate and said "No, I'm not."
"Why do you want to move wherever I go?" I asked with curiosity.
The bell rang and our eyes widen. We rushed into class and we surprisingly didn't get in trouble.
Josh text me during class "Please, don't go!"
I ignored the message but he text me again. "Please, don't move! I'll pay for your bills."
I turned to look at him and mouthed "Stop." Honestly, I wanted to laugh how cute he looked all sad and upset.
At the end of the day, I got on the bus and took off. I got home and saw my parents packing up.
"What's going on?" I asked confused.
My mother said "You were right?"
I took off my backpack and got closer to them. I anxiously asked "About what?"
My father said very upset "About your dream."
So, many dreams I dream. I didn't know which he specifically referred too and my mother knew.
She said "The one about your aunt getting very ill. Apparently, she has a weird cough that she can't get rid off and she thinks it's something worse."
I took a seat on the sofa and asked "Is it cancer?"
My father asked me "Is it?"
I shrugged slowly and my mother said "If you think it is then we have to prepare."
I tried to be positive and said "Maybe, it's just something else."
My father said "Well, we're going over there to help out. If it's something worse then we'll have to stay more."
I said "I can't go. If I skip school then I won't graduate."
My mother said "Don't worry. Just stay here and take care."
I nodded my head and they got their luggages. They headed towards their car and left. I sighed and said "If she's meant to go then theres nothing else that we can do."
For some reason I felt so much peace take over my heart and I smiled. "She's going to be fine. I just know it." I softly whispered to myself.
I headed upstairs to my room and took a shower. I ate something from the kitchen and I heard knocking on the door. I turned around and headed towards the window to look who it was.
"What the..." I said confused. I opened the door and it was Josh.
"I thought you said you would be busy with your dad?" I said very confused.
Josh said "We went out to my dad's friend house to cut some wood for the fireplace. I couldn't wait to come over so I did but I saw your parents leaving. I freaked out because we didn't get to say our goodbyes in school. Whenever, they left I rushed over but I see you were taking a shower."
I looked down at my dripping hair tips and nodded my head. I moved to the side for him to come in and he did.
"My aunt got sick so they will go see what they can help in." I informed him as I went back to the kitchen to eat what was left from my sandwich.
"Graduation is getting so close. Will they make it back in time?" He asked concerned.
I squinted my eyes at the calendar and raised my eyebrows. "Wow! You're right. Honestly, if they can't make it. I would be ok with it. As long as my aunt is ok and healthy. We still have a few weeks to go though."
Josh smiled and said "It's ok. I'll be there to congratulate you."
I chuckled and said "I will congratulate you too."
Josh laughed and said "Sounds like a plan."
"What are we going to do today?" I asked as I drinked out of my water bottle.
"You'll see." He said turning around looking around the living room.
I got my phone and said "Ok! Let's go then."
Josh said "This is going to be fun."
We left the house and went into his car. "I believe you." I said putting my seatbelt on.
He turned up the music and said "Sing with me!"
I covered my face and whined "whyyyy?"
Josh said "Oh come on! You know I won't judge you. Just losen up and see how good we both will sound."
I said "Oh my..."
He softly smiled and turned up the music. Mixing our voices together didn't sound to bad at all but I couldn't take him seriously. He made a turn and he lowered the music. I looked around and saw giant movie theater screens.
"Movies from outside your car? This is amazing!" I said very impressed by his actions.
He paid and he parked.
"I fixed everything in the back for us to be comfortable." He said taking off the seat belt and heading to the back. I went with him and he opened up the trunk. I gasped and said "Wow this is perfect. I would have never thought about this!"
I looked around and it looked more like a camping car. He had Christmas lights hanging in there, pillows in the back and blankets. I sat in the back and said "This is really amazing."
Josh said "I'm glad you liked it more than the cinema."
I nodded my head and he went to the back seat. I heard him grab a bag and bring it over. I looked at it and he said "I got us some snacks."
He took a seat by me and we waited for it to get darker. When it did, that's when the movie started but I didn't know what to look at. There was so many beautiful things around me like the stars, the movie, the tasty snacks and him sitting right next to me. During the movie I began to put much more thought about why was he doing this. I knew best friends acted like this but this felt more than best friends. I didn't even know if this is what my brain wanted to think or if it was happening.
When is was done mostly everyone decided to pack up and leave at the sametime. Which then created massive traffic and Josh said "Let them leave. Let's just look up at the stars for now."
I looked up and said "You're right."
I could hear honking around and feel the heat from the car next to us on. It didn't feel to cold and with the blanket over my legs, it helped more.
He looked down at me and asked "Where are you moving too?"
I chuckled and said "I was just kidding with you."
Josh gushed "What why?!"
I shrugged and said "I wanted to hear what you said but I didn't think you would care."
Josh looked away and said "I care very much about you."
I sighed and asked "Why so much?"
Josh hopped off the car and so did I.
He looked down at his jacket to see if he had any crumbs on it left. I looked at mine too and then looked back at him.
He was already looking at me and said "I'm not going to lie to you. I really like you alot."
"What? Why? You're the perfect one here." I said trying to understand.
Josh said "I just think you're amazing and I really want to date you."
I couldn't believe him and I said "We just met like not long ago."
Josh laughed and said "Yet, people know that's the one they want to marry."
I began to realize that it was true and I asked "Are you asking me to be your girlfriend?"
Josh said "I just wanted to tell you how I felt but if you like me back. Then I do want to ask you if you want to be my girlfriend. However, if you don't then I'm ok with being friends."
"I like you too." I said with a soft smile.
Josh looked at me shocked and said "Really?! Wow, I thought you didn't."
I glanced away and said "I didn't want to have feelings for someone who didn't like me back. It's hard getting back up when you like someone and they don't like you back."
Josh came closer to me and grabbed my hand. "It's ok. I know what you mean but I do like you back." He said trying to get me to smile again.
"Excuse me! The movie is over. I need you to move your car." The gentleman said as he held up his broom in his hand.
Josh quickly said "Oh! I'm so sorry, sir."
We got in the car and we left the theater parking lot. There was hardly any traffic anymore but the next movie would start soon.
I asked "Do you know every song?!"
He nodded his head and I nodded my head sideways. I couldn't believe him how he knew like every song that came up.
"But there not all my favorite." He informed me.
I questioned him "But you sing them all?"
Josh nodded his head and said "Well, I can't resist singing with my girlfriend."
I blushed and asked "When will summer come and take over these snowflakes?"
Josh asked "Do all love birds ask the weather before confessing to eachother?"
I answered "I have no clue but it's a great way to start a conversation. Don't you think?"
He nodded his head and said "As long as I get to talk to you I would do it that way too."
I softly laughed and we got near my house.
"Wait, you're sleeping here? Alone?" He asked as he got very worried.
I nodded my head and said "I'll be fine."
"What if we sleep together at the beach?" He offered the idea.
I surprisingly couldn't understand how he had such an amazing creative mind. "Did you just come up with this?" I asked.
Josh said "I wanted to stay the other time with you but we had just met. Obviously, you wouldn't sleep with a stranger like me in a tent."
He came to a stop in front of my house and I said "We're going to school tomorrow and your parents would get worried about you."
"They don't really care where I spend the night as long as I tell them." He said trying to convince me of staying with him at the beach.
"School though?" I remembered him.
He thought about it and I said "How about we do it on Thursday? We aren't going to school on Friday and I heard it's going to be hot!"
Josh said "But your parents will be back and you won't do it."
I said "They won't be back for sure."
Josh looked at me anxious and asked "Are you sure you'll be fine?"
I held up my phone and said "If something happens. I'll call you."
"I'll call you tomorrow whenever I'm out here." He said.
I got off his car and went inside the house.
As the days went by Josh was outside in the parking lot waiting for me to head outside in the mornings. He took me home in his car and went inside with me. We did homework, ate together, watched movies, played games and took naps. He was always looking at me in class and helping me with my things. Josh always waited for me before class and after class. We now ate together outside of the cafeteria and I didn't mind spending extra time with him. His friends were now my friends and they were pretty cool but not like him. I kept in touch with my parents and they would be out for two weeks. Spending so much time with him just made it impossible to detach from him and not to love him back. I loved this guy so much that I didn't think it would be possible to be in love like this.
"Ready?" He asked as he approached me.
I nodded my head as I approached him and leaned in for a quick kiss.
He held my hand and said "Let's go then."
"Finally, Thursday!" He shouted as he threw his hands in the air like if he just passed the finished line and won.
We walked to the school parking lot and headed to his car. Josh threw his backpack in the back seat and grabbed mine to put it with his. I got in his car and then he came inside. He handed me a pair of his sunglasses and I put them on. Josh lowered the windows down and we headed to the beach.
"You were right. It actually feels pretty hot but isn't the weather kind of weird? It's insane how it was cold a few days ago and now it's hot." He questioned life and I thought about it.
"I mean we are about to end the semester so it should be hot!" I said demanding weather justice.
He chuckled and I loved the breeze hitting my face so gently. He held my hand and I held it tighter.
"So many people!" I shouted in excitement as I could see the people walking on the sand.
"I see you been looking forward to this too." He said with a smirk.
I smirked back and said "I have been since the first time I came with you."
He laughed and he parked the car. He brought the bag that had the things to build the tent and I got some logs. We began to build it and then made the fire.
"Want to swim?" He asked glancing back at me. I looked back and said "Yeah my clothes are in the bag."
He took off his shirt and I already had my bikin under my clothes. I took off my shirt and and pants.
"Woah! You were really prepared for this." He said looking at my bikin.
"Race you there!" I said getting ahead of him.
"Wren! I'm going to get you!" He said coming after me.
He catched up real quick cause I felt him bring me into a back hug. I splashed water on his face and began to laugh. I tried to run my way in but it got harder running against the waves. I closed my eyes as I felt water drops running down my face and I knew it was him. I swam under the water so, I wouldn't feel his splashes anymore. When, I came to the surface of the water to come for air I didn't see him.
"Josh?" I called his name out and rubbed my eyes to see clearer.
I turned around and called his name again "Josh?"
I didn't get no response and I swam back down to see if I could see him. I came back for air and shouted "JOSH?!"
"What?" He answered from behind.
I turned around quickly and swam to him. He held his hand out and I grabbed it. He pulled me towards him and I didn't hesitate to wrap myself around him, like an octopus. I felt his arm wrap around me and he teasingly asked "Missed me that fast?"
I didn't let go but I looked into his eyes. "Yes! I don't think I can live without you." I said with a pout.
He kissed me slowly and said "Yes you can."
"Just don't go." I whispered before stealing another kiss.
"Hold your breath." He ordered.
I smiled as I asked "How? If you keep taking every breath I take?"
He held me tight with a big smile on his face and we sunk down. We spent the rest of the evening swimming and I didn't want the evening to end. We got out and he gave me my towel. I dried myself up and sat on the sand. He sat by me and put his arm around me. I don't know what warmed me more him or the fire.
"I was thinking." He said.
I looked up a bit and said "Mhm...about?"
"How this summer is going to be the start of everything." He said as he placed a kiss on my forhead.
I hugged him back and said "Our first summer together and the rest that is yet to come."
People began to leave and I said "I will shower and come back."
Josh helped me stand up and said "I will shower too."
I nodded my head as I grabbed my clothes to go to the shower rooms with him. I took a shower and changed into pajamas. I went outside and waited for him to come out.
"Sorry, they were all in use and I had to wait." He said drying his hair with his towel.
"It's ok." I said with a comforting smile.
He held my hand as we walked on the sand and made our way to the tent. I yawned and he did the same once he saw me do it.
"Why do we yawn when we see another person yawn?" He asked very curiously.
"I don't know but I love it. Then you can tell someone was looking at you in first place." I said as I pushed my hair behind my shoulder.
"You're tired, right?" He asked.
I immediately responded "Yes! My body is like drained of so much swimming."
Josh said "I could knock out already."
We got inside the tent and I put my head over his chest. It didn't take much time before we fell into a deep sleep.
"Josh?!" I shouted.
"I'm fine!" He said holding his arm.
"No you're not! You're bleeding! We have to get you to the hospital!" I panicked as I saw the blood running down his elbow and onto his hand.
"Wren!" Josh shouted.
I opened up my eyes and looked over at him. He was shaking me so that I would open up my eyes. I sat up and wiped the sweat off my forhead.
"Are you ok?" He asked rubbing my back.
I nodded my head slowly and said "Yeah. I just think I miss my family."
Josh said "I'm so used to my family being gone for so long that I don't even miss them like I should. I mean I love them and everything but it's definitely different in your case."
I sighed and quickly glanced at his arm.
"Don't worry about them or your aunt. I'm sure you'll get a call that they're coming back soon and that your aunt is ok." He said waving air towards my overheated face.
I got out of the tent and took a deep breath.
"Just jump in the water. I'm sure you'll forget about everything." He jokingly said.
I took his advice and made a run for it.
He shouted "I was just kidding! Wren! It's probably cold!"
I ran into the water and it did feel pretty cold. But this is what my body needed to forget about everything. As, I swam around the water I began to feel warm and not cold as it was before.
I floated around for awhile and tried to let the waves take my dreams away. After, awhile I walked out the ocean and made my way towards him.
"Feeling better?" He asked as he was almost done taking down the tent.
"Sooooo much better." I singed to him.
He chuckled and I grabbed my toothbrush to wash my teeth.
"Are we leaving?" I asked before leaving.
"No, I just want to put this tent up in the trunk that way I don't have to worry about it later whenever we leave." He implied.
I left and when I came back he was already done. The fire was out and there was a guy selling ice cream. That's exactly where he was and spending his money at.
"Strawberry?" He asked before handing it over.
"You kind of remembered?" I said grabbing it from his hand.
Josh blushed and said "I tried too."
"Thank you." I said taking a bite from it.
"What flavor you got?" I asked as it was white and tricky."
"Coconut." He answered before taking a bite off of it.
When we were done we headed towards the ocean to swim again before leaving.
"Can we swim all day until the day ends?" I asked with a pout.
Josh said "We can live here too if you want."
I giggled and said "You're to funny!"
Josh kissed my cheek and we began to swim around. I floated around and thought about how life was so crazy. How could you be floating here and next minute you could be floating on the other side of the beach? Life was like that too. One minute you're here and the next you're over there. Things happen unexpectedly and it's amazing. We just need to learn how to accept things how they're meant to be.
"Ouch!" Josh shouted unexpectedly.
I stood up on the sand and rushed towards him. "Are you ok?!" I asked frightened.
Josh put pressure over the back of his arm and said "That dumb plastic cut the back of my arm."
He sounded very mad and I understood him very well. The beach has plenty of trash cans every where but sadly most of them are empty. All because the trash is in the water and it's so dangerous.
We got out the water and he threw the plastic away. I looked at it and said "Oh my...I think it'll leave a scar."
He put pressure over it and the life guard came over.
"Just put pressure for now. Then we'll apply some medicine so it won't get infected. Nothing to serious but you know blood is like this." The life guard said.
I looked at the time, it was already 7:07 P.M. and our day had flown by so fast.
Josh winced in pain once they applied alcohol over his cut and I rubbed his back. He looked into my eyes and it seemed like he had forgotten about the pain. He didn't make anymore hurtful and painful face expressions. I didn't smile but felt guilty. I knew it would happen but I didn't tell him. Even if I told him, it wouldn't had been prevented and he would have worried more about what would had attacked him instead of relaxing with me.
