Varadium

The first planet, Varadium.

It had a temperate climate with mountains, deserts, forests and a lack of oceans or freezing temperatures, or even snow.

Varadium was occupied solely by dwarves. But not the kind that forge legendary magical swords, no, these dwarves were far more advanced.

Their technology was based entirely on mechanical power. Gears and cogs, steel and metal, burning fires in great furnaces, steam hissing in iron pipes. The dwarves of Varadium had taken mechanical power to another level. They had weapons that could destroy houses within seconds. They had guns and great cannons. They had massive weapons of war. But the greatest creations of the dwarves of Varadium were the automatons.

They were created in all shapes and sizes, modelled after great beasts and monsters. They were made of metal, their insides filled with pipes and gears. Pneumatics and mechanical power combined with great intelligence created them. They were alike to golems, but their core had no magic. The automatons were lifelong companions to dwarves.

But while the automatons were one of the dwarves best achievements, they were not the only ones.

The great cities of the dwarves were the work of millions of great builders. The oldest city was Varadium, with the same name as the planet. It's walls were a hundred meters tall and twenty meters thick. They were constructed of black iron and had never been broken in a thousand years. However, that was just the surface. Inside the wall were thousands of cannons packed tightly together. In a time of need, all of the cannons would poke out of the wall and attack, an impenetrable defense, 4 five mile long walls which look like they're made of cannons. The best defense is truly a good offense.

Yet beneath this lay another layer. Every cannon was connected to the same power source. A power source which in fact, powered the entire city because the source wasn't made under the city. No, the city was built on top of it. It was...The Godfire. It was called this because, according to Varadium lore, the dwarf god, Guntera had extracted a piece of the planet's core and given it to his kin as a gift to protect themselves.

Learning from this, the dwarves built machines underground to extract the power of the core in the form of its heat.

The dwarves also possessed one more noteworthy machine. Mechs. Giant mechanical combat suits with infinite possible capabilities. They were non-electrical(obviously) and had different special builds and weapons. Each mech was unique to its owner and was made according to their combat style.

Now you might be wondering, what were the dwarves facing on this planet that they needed so much of firepower. In truth, nothing. There were monsters but they didn't pose a threat. The dwarves were untied in one nation with only a few outcasts or criminals. Dwarves are just beings created to build things. That's why they made everything, because they loved making.

Of course, making something and never trying it out is stupid, so to have a place to try out new things and to compete and have fun, they built the arenas.

Places where dwarves would have contests of different kinds. Contests of strength, wit and intelligence. They would usually fight with their inventions, automatons and mechs but they had other contests too. For instance, the competitors would all be given the same materials and would be given a specific amount of time to either make the best machine or make weapons and fight.

And now, finally, the storyline. Each planet had its own storyline. The storyline of Varadium was unlike most other storylines. The king of the dwarves would create a giant automaton in the form of a dragon.(Could breathe fire, fly and everything.) The problem would be that something of such complexity and size would require a powerful source of energy. However, the only source of energy powerful enough world be The Godfire. Obviously, he wouldn't use this for because a)it was sacred and b)the entire city ran on it. So, being a very intelligent and wise king who could singlehandedly build a giant metal automation dragon, his solution was to copy his god and extract a piece of his planets core.(idiot) The core would become unstable and cause all kinds of natural disasters. It would also create a surge it energy that would bring all automatons to life. They were wild and dangerous and the city of Varadium was overrun. All the cities were in trouble too. The surge of energy also hit unassembled machines and pieces of metal and equipment and caused them to assemble together into living automatons.

The end result: The players would have to fight monsters and living automatons, take back the cities and stabilise the core before it would blow up.(And have fun in the arenas too.)
