"Spencer, wake up!" I could feel little hands shaking my body out of my precious sleep. I didn't want to wake up yet.
"There's no school today. Let me sleep," I groan out, ignoring Grant.
"Nick is going to pour water on your head again," Grant warns me. I pull my tired body into a sitting position on my bed and rub my eyes. I could hear movement throughout the house and I know everyone is already awake.
"Why's everyone up so early,"I ask Grant. He's dressed in an attire that shows he's ready to go out somewhere, while I'm still in my pjs.
"Mom said it's take your child to work day, not an excuse to stay home from school. Everyone's up getting ready."
The past couple of years when it was take your child to work day, I usually told them I was going to my mom's job, but I would stay home instead. My mom wasn't there to take me to her job anyways. I just slept till noon and did whatever I wanted.
But I guess this year is going to be different since she's here.
"Spencer, hurry up or I'll be late for work," I could hear my mother yell from downstairs.
"Go tell her I'm up and I'm getting ready. I'll be down soon," I tell Grant and he scurries off. I take a shower, brush my teeth, wash my hair quickly, and get dressed.
I put on a long sleeve, black turtle neck type top, a plaid skirt with a cut on the side, and some high knee, black boots. I blow dried and curled my hair, and put on some accessories.
When I got downstairs, everyone is sitting at the table eating breakfast.
"Good morning, babe," Jamie calls out to me and gets up from the table to hug me. Her hair is green today and glasses frame her face.
"So, what's the plan for today," I ask them, grabbing some pancakes and bacon.
"The girls are going to work with mom and the boys are going to work with Frank," my brother, Nick, tells me.
"How come your going? Your in college and you have your own job," Jamie states.
"I don't have any classes today and I don't work until later. I didn't want to stay home by myself," he answers.
"Do I have to go? I was hoping to sleep in for a little bit and catch up on some school work," I tell my mom, but I already know her answer.
"Going to work with me is a great idea. It'll help you figure out what you want to do in the future after highschool," she says.
"Plus, maybe it'll teach you how to actually keep a job," my brother smoothly adds and everyone tries to hide their laughter.
"Haha, your very funny," I answer him sarcastically. After I applied for that job at the wildlife rescue clinic, I never actually worked one day there. I completely forgot I had a job and my boss emailed me that I was fired a week after I hadn't shown up, which was expected.
The thing is, I didn't even see the email until now. This just shows more of how distracted I've been since I got here. I really need to learn time management and set my priorities straight.
My mind was on other things and I totally blanked out.
"Alright! Let's go boys." Frank kisses my mom's cheek goodbye and all the boys leave.
"Where do you even work," I ask my mom. I know she's a scientist and everything and I've seen her get ready for work many times, but I've never asked her where is works.
"I work in the lab at the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia. Enough questions now, we have to go." My mom rushed us to finish our breakfast and out the door.
My mother has never been one to answer a question about her job in one question. When anyone asks her about her job, she loves to blabber on and on about it. It's really weird that she'd answer so secretly or blunt about it.
Jamie and I sat in the back seat of my mom's car and enjoy the ride. My mom drives with the windows down, so that a nice breeze hits us.
We were driving for a while before my mom parked in front of a building called Magnolias Orthodontist.
Not what I expected.
"Mom, what are we doing here," I ask her. She looked nervous and I notice she's sweating on her forehead and under her armpits.
"I have a friend that works here. We're just stopping by."
"Can I wait in the car," I ask her. I have a serious phobia for dentist offices and my mom knew that. Everytime I think of the dentist, I see needles, chain saws, and other creepy tools. It's always cold inside and it just gives me chills.
"It'll be quick, I promise." I saw Jamie trying to hold in her laugh because she saw me starting to freak out.
"Chill out, Spencer. Nothing is going to happen to you. Your mom is just visiting a friend."
We walked into the dentist office and my mom went to the front desk while we sat down and waited.
I could feel my skin literally breaking out in hives. My mom came back and told us that he would be out soon.
My legs were shaking the whole time and I just wanted to run out of here.
"Kingsley," a man called out from the door. We got up and walked to the other side, behind the door.
That's weird. My mother's last name isn't Kingsley anymore. Why would he call her that? Maybe he got confused because we are definitely not here for me.
"So, we're all prepped up and ready. I promise we'll do our best to make you feel little pain." The guy was looking straight at me and a pang went through my heart.
"What," I shrieked out and turned to my mom.
"You didn't tell her we were doing the procedure today? I don't like operating on my patients when they're in a panicked manner," the guy has the nerves to say.
"What procedure? What the hell is he talking about," I ask my mom.
"Your wisdom teeth extraction. That's what I mean," he said, giving me a little attitude.
"Would you shut up, sir while I try to calm down my daughter," my mom yelled at him. He shut his mouth quick and went inside the room to wait for us.
"You liar! That's why you were laughing," I scream at Jamie.
"You'll be fine, Spencer. You're just getting your wisdom teeth pulled out. You'll barely feel it with the laughing gas," my mother says, like it's no big deal.
"I don't need to get them pulled out. They don't even hurt," I lie my pants off.
"Who's the liar now? I've seen you rubbing your mouth and groaning in pain all week," Jamie tattles on me.
I try to make a run for it, but both of them grab me, dragging me into the room.
"I HATE YOU GUYS." The guy clamps the laughing gas mask on my face and I had no choice but to let him play in my mouth.
I'm so getting them back for this!
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
"I can't feel my face," I start to whine. Jamie and my mom didn't even answer me. My mom just ignores me and Jamie is laughing.
"You guys are mean! I'm suffering and all you can do is laugh?" I was again met with silence.
I take out my phone out and dial the one person I know won't ignore me.
The phone rung for a while and went to voicemail. I start to cry.
"What's wrong, Spencer," Jamie finally answered.
"I want Chester and he didn't pick up. Why is everyone ignoring me?" I felt like I was dying. Why won't he answer my call?
"Why do you want Chester? He's ugly," Jamie had the nerves to say. My jaw dropped.
"How dare you?! He's a sexy god!" I was screaming my lungs out.
"No, he's not. I can name millions of guys hotter than him." She's taunting me.
"You can mix all the cutest, richest, sexiest, smartest, kindest, and powerful men you can think of in a witches pot and put them all together and they still could never beat him."
"Well, he isn't stronger than Edward Cullen and Jacob Black."
"You bitch! He can drag that vampire and werewolf ass any day. Plus, the movies were cringe as hell."
"But he doesn't glisten in the sun."
"His eyes do all the sparkling he needs. I dare you to say otherwise," I threaten her.
"Woah. Woah. Woah. There will be no fighting in this car," my mom finally intervenes. Jamie was just laughing her ass off.
My mom parked the car in the driveway and we got out of the car. My mom helped guide me inside.
"Can I get ice cream," I whine.
"We don't have ice cream, Spencer. You should have asked me before we got home."
I started to cry and I could tell my mom was getting aggravated.
"Just suck on some damn ice," Jamie said. I went to the fridge and stuffed my mouth with ice, but it didn't compare to the sweetness of ice cream. I started crying again.
"Spencer, just go take a nap upstairs and ease your mind." My mom told me and left the house.
I dragged myself upstairs to mope when I heard something make a big thud sound in my room.
"Hello," I yelled into my room, afraid to step fully inside.
"Hello," the voice echoes back and the voice is deep and raspy, like a demon. I'm scared to go in, but I'm also curious to know what's crawling around in my room.
"Are you a nice demon," I ask it and it laughs.
"Spencer, it's me."
Hey, I know that voice!
I run into my room and jump on Chester.
"How did you get in and why are you here," I ask him, strangling him in a bear hug on my bed.
"Jamie sent me a very interesting video and I couldn't resist," he says, a smirk playing on his face.
"What video?" I was confused and it wasn't because of the effects the laughing gas has on me.
"My eyes do all the glistening I need?" I blush the hardest I've ever blushed before.
"I didn't even notice she was recording. So, that's why she was making me mad. I was getting ready to disown that bitch."
"And you really think I'm a sexy god?" Chester was making his way down my neck with his lips.
I couldn't tell if it was the laughing gas making my insides turn or him.
I couldn't even focus enough to give him an answer. He nibbles on my neck gently and I couldn't stifle the moan that rose out of my throat.
"Your going to have to stop. This plus the laughing gas is mixing and making me light headed," I whisper to him. He stops even though I can tell he kind of doesn't want to.
My mind swims over the date we had Saturday. Yesterday, I distracted myself from thinking hard about it by drawing, but I ended up just drawing multiple drawings of Chester.
I'm a psychopath. I couldn't stop myself from thinking about it now as I'm face to face with him. It was perfect. Too perfect almost.
"What are you thinking about," Chester asks me. He runs his hands through my hair and I lay my head on his chest.
"You're just perfect, but I didn't want to tell you because you're also a cocky asshole" I whisper to him. I hear him breathe out a sigh.
"No. I'm not. I'm far from it." He kisses the top of my head. I don't have the strength to fight back with him, so I end up falling asleep.
