Chapter 8

"Choi Jungsik-ssi?"

Jungsik flinched when she waved her hand before his eyes, didn't realize how he has been staring at her until then.

"Choi Jungsik-ssi? You heard what I just said, right?"

That's it. She might have noticed he wasn't listening to her, right?

"A-ah... I'm sorry... I was just..." he couldn't even think of any excuse for it, feeling too embarrassed of himself to even find an excuse.

"It's alright. Maybe you were thinking about your soon to be bride after seeing all these preparations? Things happend like that, and maybe it's your own wedding, you must be quite nervous. I used to have many other clients like you, so I can understand. But please don't worry. I'll try my best to make her the most luckiest girl in the world to have the most beautiful grand wedding," she said with an assuring smile.

"Hmm? Whose bride?" he asked without realizing but thanks to it, it made her chuckle a bit.

"Choi Jungsik-ssi? Are you... alright? It's your wedding and I'm talking about your bride."

"Oh, her?" Jungsik sighed when he realized it's of course his own wedding.

He knew he shouldn't be feeling this way but lately, since the day he saw the person in front of him right now for the first time, she's the only thing he could think of. She keep coming to his mind and he always end up letting her in.

"But, to be honest, I don't even know her name. I've never seen her," Jungsik just blabbed out, without even thinking if it's something he could even say to a person whom he just met or not. He, somehow, felt like she's someone closed to him, as if he had been with her for years together.

"Huh? Really? You've never seen her? Not even once? And you don't even know her name?" she tilted her head, she looked surprised to hear it.

"Choi Jungsik-ssi, you're going to marry her. Don't you think, at least, you should meet her and try to know about her before the wedding?" her voice sounded concerned before changing into a little awkwardtone, "but, why are you telling me about this? I don't even know if it's fine for me to know about this matter."

"Uh?" he realized what he just told, "Umm... it's... it's just..."

"It's alright. Sometimes, it's easier to tell something to a stranger than someone closer. I can understand," she smiled. "Uh, So... is there anything you want to change or add from what I had prepared?" she tried to change the topic, sensing the awkward silence between them.

"Uh? No. It's perfect. And if it's there, I'll called you to meet".

"Yes of course. You're free to tell me anytime," she smiled as she start arranging the papers scattering all over the table and put them back inside her bag.

"But, Kim Jangmi-ssi, I- I don't have your contact number yet. We can't tell each and everything by only mails, right?"

"Oh yeah. Sorry. This is my card," she gave him the card that has her contact number on it, "you can contact me on this number if you have anything to discuss about the work".

Jungsik stared at the card and smiled, "Thank you".

"Ok then, I'll get going now," she stood up from her seat, "thank you so much for choosing us. We'll do our best to make it to your satisfaction," she bowed at him for the last time before she walked out of the cafe.

She sighed when she remember she had to walk till bus stop since her car was broke, she didn't want to disturb her sister by calling her in the middle of her work to pick her up when she can just go by bus by herself. She sighed and started walking through the roadside.

"Kim Jangmi-ssi !"

She paused her feet to turn back when she heard someone calling her name only to find Jungsik standing behind her, panting heavily.

"Uh? Choi Jungsik-ssi? Why are you here?" her eyes widen, she looked surprised.

"Kim Jangmi-ssi, you said... you said your car broke right? Are you going to walk till home? If you don't mind, let me take you to your home," Jungsik said in between his heavy breaths.

"Choi Jungsik-ssi? Did you, perhaps, really run till here? Just to say that?" she let out an awkward smile when he nodded, "Thank you so much but... I wasn't going to walk till home actually. I'm going to take the bus."

"No. I'll drive you home. I just... I wanted to thank you for all those perfect works," Jungsik insisted.

"But..." she was about to say no but ended up agreeing, "Hmm... alright... then... let's go."

Jungsik smiled, leading her towards his car.

His driver opened the back seat door for him but,

"I'll drive today. You can go somewhere for some time till I come back. You can either go shopping or eat something while waiting. I'll be right back," he took the car key from his driver and pat his shoulder with a smile, happily.

His driver just stood there, looking at him being happy and excited, something he rarely see from Jungsik. The thing that surprised him more was that, Jungsik never asked to drive by himself before. Not even once.

▪︎▪︎▪︎

There was silence in the car for the whole time. All they could hear was the sound of wind blowing through their ears.

Jungsik took a short glance by the passenger seat beside him where Jangmi was sitting quietly. But who would've known, that short glance will turn out to something that last even longer than it was supposed to be?

Because there would be no one to even dare looking away from the way those blond strands of her hair blowing to the sides along the the cold breeze that gradually covers half of her face, for which he blamed the wind, but still envy the wind that could feel how soft those hair would be. And he couldn't thank her fingers more for tucking the hair strands behind her ear, giving a glimpse of her thin silver earrings that unexpectedly matched with the pale pink dress she wore.

It didn't take long to reach her house, which he wished it to be a little longer.

"Thank you so much," she bowed after getting down from the car.

Jungsik smiled but a part of him wished he could stop her, wondering what would it feel like to have the right to stare at her instead of just watching her walk away until his eyes were left lonely.

He took out the card from his pocket and stared at the letters of the name written on it, a faint smile curled up in his lips before tracing his eyes towards the cold empty passenger seat beside him where a particular person used to sit a few minutes ago.

But, will he ever understand that it's something one feels when they miss someone...
