New Life

The rest of the month passed by slowly after the summer camp ended. The most exciting thing to do was care about the Pokemon eggs they had found in the wild during camp. At one point the eggs had started to glow getting them excited only for the boys to sigh in disappointment when it turned out to be a false alarm. The Professor had laughed heartily and told them the egg was very healthy and getting ready to hatch. The Professor had also given one egg each to the four boys to care for. Gary and Ash had been a little reluctant to part with the eggs but understood that taking care of poke eggs and a newborn Pokemon would be a little too much responsibility for someone who has never taken care of Pokemon before. Apart from having a Pokemon egg to care about Ash had taken the time to write down the story he remembered and as he wrote more he realized he remembered more almost like he memorized the whole book.

During a sleepover at the end of the first summer month Ash poked Gary, "Hey Gary?"

Gary who was playing a video game answered, "What's up Ashy?"

Ash was a bit disgruntled by that nickname but did not make a fuss, "Do you remember the story I said I was thinking about writing?"

Gary paused his game, "Yeah! What about it? You are not going to give up on it, are you?"

Ash shook his head, "No, no, nothing like that. Actually I finished writing it two days ago and I wanted to know if you still want to read it?"

Gary placed the controller down, "Of course I do. It sounded so interesting when you told us about it before. I want to read it."

Ash smiled, "Alright then, but you have to be honest about what you think about it okay?"

Gary grinned, "Okay Ashy, no problem!"

Ash sighed annoyed with that nickname and made a mental note to make one for Gary. He went towards the study table that had the two Pokemon eggs belonging to him and Gary placed on top of it. The Professor had told them one of the best way to hatch the eggs was to carry it with them everywhere and to keep them in a close distance so they could feel their presence. Ash pulled open one of the drawers of the table and took out the file that he used to hold the papers containing the story together.

Ash held it out to Gary, "Here it is. I hope you like it."

Gary took the papers from Ash and started to read it quietly. Ash fidgeted for a while as Gary read the story, before getting up and going downstairs to get something to eat as a snack. Mr Mime noticed him and called him over handing him a tray holding cookies and two glasses filled with vanilla and chocolate milkshakes.

Ash smiled at the older Pokemon, "Thank you very much Mr Mime."

Mr Mime watched the young human return to his room. He remembers when he first met Delia, he was minding his own business that day when all of a sudden a turf war started out of nowhere. He had gotten caught in the crossfire and gotten hurt but luckily he had managed to escape from there and avoided getting seriously injured. He had walked for quite a bit before he ran into a female human who took one look at him before holding out an Oran berry and a Pecha berry for him to take. The human had smiled kindly at him before leaving him and he had followed her out of curiosity.

He had watched her as she returned home to be greeted by two younger humans. The older human child had left for his own home once she had returned. He observed the family of two as she cooed at the little bundle in her arms. He had decided if he wanted a human trainer, then she would be a good choice. The next day he had approached her and introduced himself. She had been surprised at first but then smiled at him and asked if he wanted to become her Pokemon. He had nodded and the two had gone together to meet an older male human who helped them make it possible.

Then there had been the curious meeting with the young child that he remembered very vividly. When he first saw the child, Ash, the little human cub had stared at him unblinkingly making him feel a little unnerved at the stare. Delia had chuckled and commented that he would have been the first Pokemon that little Ash saw. Whatever unnerved feeling he had disappeared when she said that and he was feeling a little flattered by it. Ash had always been excited to see him after the first meeting and he had to admit, human children were very curious creatures.

Oblivious to Mr Mime's thoughts Ash returned to his room and sat the tray down, "I got some snacks for us."

Gary looked up, "Thanks Ash!"

Ash nodded, "So what do you think?"

Gary grinned at him, "Magical Noctowls, a hidden market, a magical train station, a castle for a school, friendly ghosts and a sassy talking hat. I really like this. It's different from other fairytales I read."

Ash held the milkshake out to him, "Really? I am glad about that, I was worried I might have been pushing it a bit with the hat."

Gary laughed taking the glass, "Nah! The talking hat is a pretty cool and chill dude. I quiet like his sassy attitude when he sorted the students to their houses."

Ash grinned taking the controller and unpaused the game to play as he ate a chocolate chip cookie. By the time he put the controller down Gary had finished half of the story and it was dark outside. They heard the front door open and Delia's voice floated up saying she was home and got dinner for everyone. The two boys went downstairs to greet her and set up the table. As they sat down to eat dinner they talked about how their day went and Gary told her about the book Ash wrote. Ash blushed when Delia said she wanted to read the book her son had written and proceeded to ask what it was about. They talked till late night before Delia shooed the two off to brush their teeth and get to bed saying she would read the book after Gary returned it.
