More Digging

With only a single candle lit for his suffering Cleff continued digging graves and burring bodies.

Working without pause or rest Cleff eventually built himself up a routine. Although it was barley noticeable Cleff had even gotten a little stronger, although all that did was allow him to shovel dirt faster.

Dig a hole, grab a body, fill the hole...

Dig a hole, grab a body, fill the hole....

Dig a hole, grab a body, fill the hole.....

At this point it wouldent have been far from the truth to call Cleff a hole digger.... or filler....

In all honesty Cleff would have thought being a gravedigger would have been a little more emotionally charged...

He had thought digging graves and handling bodies would have felt a little more solemn. A little sad even ...

Although it was hard to build an emotional connection to a corpse when most of its features were blurred out.

In Cleff's eyes the only thing that distinguished the things he was burring was the vague humanlike shape and clothing that they were wearing. Otherwise all Cleff saw was a grey mist blocking everything else out.

In all honesty Cleff really appreciated the fact he couldn't really see what he was burring. Although his emotions were totally dulled it wasn't as if seeing a bunch of dead bodies pilled on top of each other would have done his mental health any good.

And again after finishing the daily task of throwing all the bodies he was delivered into their own little burial pits and covering them in dirt, Cleff waddled over to the little brown bag that was delivered with the rest of the bodies.

This time there were four bronze coins and two candles. Still pretty disappointing.

Although a note attached to one of the candles did read

" Ever-burning"

Probably an over exaggeration, but the other Candle Cleff had placed outside his house the other day was still burning just as tall as it was when he had lit it. And so, two other candles joined the first " Ever- Burning " candle placed outside Cleff's empty shack.

And just as Cleff was about to open the shacks one and only door in an attempt to get some much needed mental rest the sounds of hoofbeats rang out again throughout the mist....

Turning around Cleff noticed the driverless cart had once again stopped in front of his humble graveyard.

And once again a pile of blurred out corpses and a slightly larger brown bag was left behind. But as the driverless cart rolled into the mists once more Cleff could have sworn he saw a silhouette holding the reins in the drivers cart.... if only for a split second.

And yet again like the day before the pile of corpses left behind was even larger then the day before.

Although Cleff was slowly getting faster at digging graves he had barely finished burying the second days bodies when the cart had arrived....

Although digging graves took time Cleff could have sworn it did not take a full twenty four hours to bury twenty corpses....

On the other hand Cleff couldn't tell time. And for all he knew a day could have been shorter than a full twenty four hours in this world.

But what Cleff did know, was that these damn corpses couldn't bury themselves, and if he wanted to finish todays work there was no time for rest....

no time for rest at all.....

Sigh.....

And so after rushing and digging as fast as he possibly could Cleff somehow managed to burry the third batch of corpses.... although albeit with a little bit of difficulty. And so five seconds before the cart came again, 3 new candles joined the group, their golden flames dancing in a non existent breeze.

Although this happy scene was soon interrupted by the dumping of an even larger batch of corpses in front of the wooden shack.....

Sigh...
