Chapter 68: Unveiling the Tower's Secrets

Because of the big misunderstanding from Anna and the others, they were under the impression that I possessed a special constitution. This misconception led them to believe that I could accompany Sarah on her quest inside this place. It seemed they were aware that this place prohibited the use of magic but allowed individuals with a special constitution to continue using their powers.

Sarah, too, must have believed the same when she invited me. Seeing that my movements were unrestricted only deepened her conviction. Personally, I didn't mind their misunderstanding as it spared me from explaining the origin of my power. However, if they were to ask, I would answer them honestly, as I had no intention of keeping it a secret forever. Yet, since they hadn't inquired, I saw no need to divulge the information.

Contemplating the peculiar nature of this place, it became clear why Jack could use magic while his subordinates couldn't. I initially speculated that he possessed a special artifact that countered the rules of this place, but the truth turned out to be much simpler.

As one question left my mind, another emerged. Why did the Draco family desire Sarah's constitution so fervently? Their family was already blessed, so what made Sarah so important to them? Could it be the common scenario of the heir to the family not possessing the family constitution, thereby leading them to desperate measures like this? Unless they told me themselves, I would never know the real answer.

On another note, why did Jack and the other members of the Draco family construct such a massive machine? I understood that Sarah held great significance to them, given that they even sent Jack to forcefully tear through space and enter this place. However, why did Jack only dispatch his subordinate to chase me instead of coming himself? If he had pursued me personally, I doubted I would have escaped so easily.

These two questions suddenly plagued my mind, refusing to let go. Desiring answers, I looked at Anna and posed the questions to her.

"In response to your first question, I believe I have an answer. It is said that although the Dragon Constitution is a special trait specific to the Draco family, it is not the strongest. According to legend, there exists another constitution within the family—one that appears only once in the firstborn child of a union between a human and a dragon. This constitution, known as the Dragon King Constitution, grants the individual the power to wreak havoc among both humans and dragons. Unfortunately, aside from its initial appearance, it has never manifested again. None of the well-known individuals in the current generation of the Draco family possess this special constitution, not even Jack," Anna explained.

Wow! I had never heard of such a thing before—the Dragon King Constitution. Perhaps its rarity contributed to its absence in normal books. The ability to unleash chaos among both humans and dragons showcased the dominance of this constitution.

Anna continued, "As for your other question, I don't know. Jack might have plans that we're unaware of. What I can say is that he has been preparing for this plan for a long time, and his presence in the hall after you entered this place was no coincidence."

I agreed with Anna's assessment. Observing the tower-like machine, it was clear that Jack had made extensive preparations. The machine seemed partially assembled upon its arrival, indicating that it had been constructed outside this place. The process required knowledge of this location, which couldn't have been acquired in a short period.

There was undoubtedly more to this than met the eye.

"What are you thinking about? That's not important right now. What matters is ensuring you take Sarah and escape," Anna urged, growing impatient with my contemplation. She firmly believed that running away was our best option.

But I disagreed. Reflecting on the events leading up to this moment, I began to realize how peculiar they were. Jack's behavior stood out the most. If he truly possessed the strength Anna described, how was I still alive? He could have easily killed me with a single strike.

Furthermore, why did he take Anna, Thomas, and Captain Garz as hostages? He killed all the other soldiers and kept only them alive. Why? Did he plan to use them to force Sarah to comply with his demands? No, I didn't think so. If he wanted a hostage, one would have been sufficient. If he intended to kill the hostages one by one to pressure Sarah, there would have been no need to eliminate the other soldiers.

Three hostages, Sarah, and the tower-like machine—they were the key clues to uncovering Jack's true intentions.

"Hey! What are you thinking? Don't you realize you need to hurry before the men in black return?" Anna interrupted, hoping to expedite our escape. However, her interruption provided me with a new perspective.

It had been several minutes since I defeated the three guards responsible for this area, yet there had been no response. I had been engrossed in Anna's story and failed to consider this earlier. How could an elite group of mages not notice that their comrades were dead? Even if I had momentarily eluded their notice, it had been 15 minutes since then. Why hadn't they reacted at all?

Something was amiss, and I needed to investigate before making any further decisions.

"Stay here for a moment. I need to confirm something," I told Anna, who was in no condition to fight. Thomas and Captain Garz also required someone to look after them.

"Wait! Where are you going? Don't you need to run away now?" Anna persisted, urging me to leave. However, I remained firm in my decision to investigate the enemy.

"Relax, I'll be fine. Besides, where did the fearless Anna Scarlet go? You're usually the first to engage in this sort of thing," I smiled at Anna while giving my response. Then, turning away, I exited the tent and headed toward the center where the tower-like machine stood. I hoped to find some answers there.
